"shows with mostly adult characters that aren't just endless NC scenes"Can you name them? I see such comments…
This has turned into a bigger discussion than I expected. When I wrote NC scenes, I meant shows with lots of sex. Nothing more and I wasn't saying that that type of series is the same as porn. I was just saying I enjoy watching series with adults that don't focus mostly on sex. Since you asked for a list, here are the ones I'm aware of. I'm sure there are more, but here are some of the recent ones I know of: Time, Beyong the Star, Love Syndrome 3, Dinosaur Love, For Him, My Story, Naughty Babe, Only Friends, Taikan Yoho, Pit Babe, Tin Tem Jai, 609 bedtime story, Big Dragon, Check Out, Cutie Pie, Love In The Air, KinnPorsche, Love Mechanics, The Tuxedo, Till the World Ends, Unforgotten Night, Playboy, Venus in the Sky, Fahlanruk, Kiseki Chapter 2 and The Whisperer.
Again, I'm not trying to say anything bad about the shows I just listed. I'm just saying it's nice to see variety. And obviously everyone's definition of "lots of sex scenes" is different, so others might not agree with my list.
These guys still look young to me but it's definitely nice to see actors closer to 30 than 20. I'd love more queer…
I completely agree. Because the tag is "boys love" and the target audience was younger in the past, I think getting to a point where we have more stories with adult characters has been a slow process. As you said, there has also been a stigma for many older actors to play these roles and I'm glad that's also changing.
I think as audiences become more vocal about wanting to see series with older characters and companies see that they can be profitable, things will slowly start to change. As the other person said, Japan has had many older BLs as has Taiwan. I think one of the best was Ossan's Love Returns.
I'm soooo glad Taiwanese BLs have made a big resurgence in the last couple of years. The variety of stories, situations and character types is always such a treat to see. I love that we're no longer stuck in a BL world with mostly engineering students and chefs. And that we're seeing more shows with mostly adult characters that aren't just endless NC scenes.
Unknown has been amazing since episode one and just keeps getting better. I'm not getting involved in the "brothers" debate, I'm just appreciating this well written/directed/acted series and praying that my heart isn't broken when it ends!
" But the improvement I saw in Nat's acting with Gun, disappeared when he was with Max." this. I felt this too!…
Yeah. I think one of the things that makes their situation really unique is that Nat was only 17 when they started to work together while Max was in his mid-twenties and already in the industry. I'm sure Max has been somewhat of a protector for Nat and someone who has taken care of Nat over the years. Most big ships don't have that dynamic. Except ZeeNew.
It would be nice if Nat worked on his acting a bit more, but I blame Mandee and his manager for not putting him in acting classes more than I blame Nat who is clearly focused on maintaining his ship more than acting. Maybe the backlash he receives from his performance in this show will compell him to try to improve. I won't hold my breath though, since he got similar backlash in his previous roles.
Overall I thought this was a very good and unique show. I have always said that I prefer series where the viewers get to see the leads as a couple, more than ones where issues arise as soon as they confess and then the leads only spend a short time as a couple in the finale. Time jumps are also a pet peeve of mine because during the time apart, a lot can happen. In this case, a WHOLE LOT can happen in 7 years. It always feels unrealistic that neither character changes/evolves over the course of a long time apart. Or that they haven't found someone new in that time. But that makes sense for Chu Yi since he doesn't like people and the chances of him finding someone else are very low. But seven years is still a long time to be away from the one you love and that's really sad imo. It was also preventable since his uncle had the power to send Ever 9 to him much sooner, which is frustrating.
But with all that said, I still recommend the show, even though I wish some parts had been different. The actors' chemistry was top notch.
" But the improvement I saw in Nat's acting with Gun, disappeared when he was with Max." this. I felt this too!…
I can only speculate that because Nat knows Max well and is more comfortable with him than with other actors, Nat's acting ends up being more relaxed with Max than with others. And for some viewers, that relaxed style of acting isn't very good.
I am always reluctant to label a ship as "bad" or "good". We know shipping is a mostly Thai phenomenon in BL. And for BL actors in other countries, the acting performance is the main focus for viewers. That's rarely true for Thai BL actors. The majority of popular ships make around 1 series per year, but they make money off of their ship year round. Maintaining the ship is the full time job and that brings in endorsements, songs, fan meetings and merch. Since these are the areas where most big ships get the bulk of their income and since that money rarely comes from international audiences, I can't label any ship bad just because I don't find aspects of their most recent series to be well done. But that's my personal opinion and I don't expect other international viewers to see it from my perspective.
I think if a Thai ship continues to receive support from a sizeable number of Thai fans, that ship is successful. And that's not good or bad, that's just how the entertainment industry works. Fame and fortune usually matter more than acting skill and talent.
This 👏👏!!!!!! The trailer was great, I can't wait to watch it. I just want to thank the BL gods for the resurgence of Taiwanese BLs. Taiwan and Japan consistently produce series with interesting and relatable plots about adult characters and I just LOVE that!!!
I think my MaxNat bias may be skewing my perception of the show, but I liked most of episode 3. Yes the editing is bad, the plot is kinda jumbled, it's hard to see what's happening in the nighttime scenes, Nat's acting isn't good and it's hard to feel the emotional weight of some scenes when the audience hasn't had a chance to learn about or care about the side characters and their relationship with the leads yet (I'm talking about the scenes with the parents). But I like what they're trying to do. The side couple will probably be entertaining. Max and Gun are doing a good job and I'm still interested to see how it progresses.

I just finished episode 3 and based on the new comments, it looks like others agree with us. I think Nat's acting wasn't as subpar in episode 3, but I still think he showed stronger chemistry with the mom and Gun than he did with Max.
I got a notification that you replied to my message, but I can't see it on this page. I'm guessing that's because…
Well that's true. Some companies have a terrible track record. 9NAA has never made good show. IMO viewers pointing that out aren't the problem. It's the company .
Yup, can definitely tell it's a 9NAA series....Even with only being 6 episodes I'm still not sure this one is…
I got a notification that you replied to my message, but I can't see it on this page. I'm guessing that's because I blocked that angry person who hates me and everyone who doesn't praise bad tv shows. What did you say?
so the thought that this could just be a bit of harmless fun made for people who appreciate that sort of thing…
Seek help. It's a tv show that almost no one is watching. People like you who feel the need to start arguments over every little thing are a reason why Thai BL is increasingly less enjoyable. Arguing over nothing anbeing called namss for no reason by someone I don't know and will never meet because I dared to share my opinion about a show is not fun for me and feels pointless. There are real world problems that impact all of us everyday, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. I'm not invested enough in any of this to care about it at all anymore.
I'm done with this show, this conversation and you.

What exactly am I wrong about? Since when can an opinion about a tv show be right or wrong? When did art stop being subjective and become something you can dictate for others? And what gives you the authority to decide that? Are ALL of the other people who don't think the series is good also wrong or am I the only one?
