Hey there, no you’re not in a minority. I found it difficult and confusing viewing. For me, the script just…
I agree 100% with everything you said. I wish I saw in this show what others are seeing. But if a script is weak, it's hard for me to enjoy a series. And this seems to be fully focused on being the show that exposes the "real" things going on in the BL world, but it all feels SUPER fake and contrived. Like you said, it's all about the shock value and none of it feels shocking to me. Just lazy writing trying to cash in by covering topics that BLs rarely address. Maybe the show will be huge and I'm missing the point. Idk but I've seen too many crappy BLs this year to spend time watching yet another one 🤷‍♀️
Anthology BL shows always seems to be hit or miss, like 7 Project (partly BL), Close Friends and Y Destiny
That's a great point. I only watched the BounPrem story for 7 Project and it was ok. But Y Destiny and even Close Friends had some good stories while others were really bad. This only has 4 stories and all will likely be a miss for me. Oh well.
I waited until the great BL drought of 2022 to watch this and knowing that there's nothing else on was the only reason why I bothered to finish it. I thought Star in My Mind was GMMTV's worst BL of 2022, but somehow this is worse. The previous comments said it all. Theo is unlikeable. It looks like the camera is covered in gloss in every scene. Akk is the only good character. Phupha, Saifa, Natee and Wayo are all 1 dimensional and given pretty much nothing to do. Both families are irritating. BookForce look like and act like brothers, they're never believable as lovers and their characters behave like little kids.
In spite of all that, the biggest problem is the silly premise that barely gives viewers a reason to return each episode. Once the twist is revealed it feels like everything has been a complete waste of time.
I'd give this a pass if it was made by most companies, but GMMTV can do better and we've seen them do better many many times. I'd gladly watch Force in another series, but I can't say the same about Book.
I really wanted to like this, but I didn't. I'm clearly in the minority here, but this was a chore to sit through and this will be my last episode. When this was announced it seemed like it would be a show revealing what really goes on behind the scenes in the BL world. When the trailers came out I was unimpressed. It was directed by the same person who made Y-Destiny and YYY and it shows. The acting is as good as Y-Destiny, the story is sensational but feels very contrived and nothing that I saw in the first episode made me want to sit through 19 more.
I really loved Billy and Seng in Secret Crush on You, but that was made by a different company with a bigger budget and better writing. I do hope this does well for all of the actors involved.
@HaiLuoYin Thanks for telling your honest opinion. BTW have you watched Word of Honor?
You're welcome. I started Word of Honor back when it came out but I couldn't get into it. I only saw 3 or 4 episodes. I've heard great things about it, but just haven't taken the time to give it another chance.
I'll wait till it's ended, because I saw comments here that they won't get together in the series. That's not…
After being completely disappointed by Love of Spring and many other shows this year, I completely understand you. This could be another bait. Waiting until it ends might be the smartest move.
This is another commercial disguised as a BL. It's fine if you want to spend an hour learning about desserts.
This is harmless, forgettable, but also almost feels like click bate. If you're looking for BL, you'll only find it at the very end. The rest of the short runtime is spent with a loner, desperate for love who thinks dessert can solve any problem for each straight guy he suddenly falls for. The complete lack of depth isn't surprising since each episode is only 10 minutes. But in the end, it felt repetitive and bland.
I just saw the preview for next week and now I'm accepting that the pain and lack of communication will continue. Yin War are giving great performances, but the story is becoming sadness, suffering and pain for the sake of sadness, suffering and pain. It's less about the mechanics of love than it is about the mechanics of hurting someone you love. And as the show winds down, it's hard for me to look forward to the upcoming episodes.
Maybe it's me, but watching a few moments of happiness and hours of tears and brokenheartedness is not enjoyable. Especially when these problems could easily be resolved with actual communication. A show shouldn't just be about providing the audience with enjoyable moments, but it also shouldn't torture its audience and MC every week. I won't be surprised if it takes until the end of episode 9 or middle of episode 10 for them to finally be together for real and that's unfortunate.
Usually, when I'm frustrated with a show it's because of bad writing. But this is well written and the negative emotions I felt while watching this were exactly what the writers wanted the audience to feel. And even though Yiwaa and Nuea irritated me last week, they behaved EXACTLY like I would if I were there. I appreciated how much they cared about Mark's feelings and wanted to protect him.
I truly wish domestic violence wasn't included in yet another BL as a catalyst to move the relationship of the main couple forward, but irl these things happen and I think it was handled well in the episode. Overall, episode 7 was painful to watch, but hitting rock bottom may have been what Vee needed to improve and stop repeating the same behaviors. I'm hopeful that the pain is over for Mark and the audience. I can't for next week.
In a sea of Thai BLs, it's nice to watch a Thai show that's about gay PEOPLE. This isn't wish fulfillment or a fantasy about perfect "boys" who are perfect together, it's a realistic skice of life of flawed people who don't always make the right choices and don't always say the right things. It's kinda sad, kinda frustrating, but relatable.
I regret not watching this months ago. After dealing with the uncle, I thought I'd like season 1 more than season 2, but once Nabdao came back, part 2 won my heart completely. Keptawan is the most decent, sincere and wonderful character I've seen and I'm so glad Oak and Mon keep making such amazing gems together.
I wish more BL fans gave Wayufilms a chance. They always do an incredible job with limit budgets.
I'd be lying if I said episode 4 was better than the last 3, but I've accepted that it won't get better, so episode 4 was mildly entertaining for me. It feels like this is this year's Nitiman, which was an instant classic of ridiculous wasted potential. But unlike Nitiman, this has BounPrem and now I know I'll watch those two in ANYTHING!
I really wish there were more episodes to even start developing a plot for anyone besides the dad, but I'll "enjoy" the last 2 episodes either way.
You said what many of us have been thinking. I wish I knew why the Thai BL industry has collectively decided to…
I feel the same way. I wish BL was a genre that actors could always be proud of acting in, instead of something many do just for popularity. Maybe I'm asking for too much, clearly some people don't think we're allowed to complain about bad shows as long as people watch them. But I want the genre to continue to improve, not to regress. 2022 has brought us some amazing BLs and I really hope these companies start trying harder on a more consistent basis.
In spite of all that, the biggest problem is the silly premise that barely gives viewers a reason to return each episode. Once the twist is revealed it feels like everything has been a complete waste of time.
