I don't think Adam's ever had an awkward relationship with Li Chen, so I wouldn't think too much of it. His sister and Li Chen may have split, but it was a political split, not because they're in a bad relationship. If you watch the pilot episode, they seem perfectly friendly. Li Chen even kept up with news about Adam's recent work schedule.

Didn't read the novel, but based on other sources, I think his health deteriorates because the cycle was not made for him. He just happened to get dragged into it, but he wasn't supposed to be in it. Li Shiqing was supposed to be the only one in the loop - that's why the loop works fine for her.

BJT is hugely popular recently, so it makes sense for there to be hype about him. I personally don't recognize the female actress, but she's really good in this show at least!
Finished the show! Haven't watched a good drama in a while, and this is absolutely brilliant. The story and the character development is just top chefs kiss.
Backtracking on my previous comment to say that Episodes 3 & 4 are insanely better than 1 & 2. Just get past 1 & 2 and it seems pretty smooth sailing. Hoping the rest of the season doesn't flop again.

Same, why would I watch a bunch of celebrities travelling if not for entertainment. Being forced to make this educational has really numbed down the show
Okay so I love this show, but this season's been so rough. It's extremely obvious they cut out basically half of the episode just to be able to even air it. And this is 100% not anyone on the production team's fault - it's China wanting to make everything more educational and less entertainment focused. I just hope that they'll be allowed to air the cut scenes some time in the future;;

It got delayed - no set time. Four TV channels were been reported for being over-entertaining (Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Hunan) - a couple shows have been affected. They need to re-edit/re-film the series before they're allowed to air. The govt wants shows to be more educational than for entertainment.
