I think Chinese censorship (gov't) ruined it. They had 2 rounds of "cutting/editing" before it got approved for airing. The noticeable changes are: censor on Vampire (blood sucking, blood drinking, cut the blood-kiss down, cut some of the vampire power/action scene ; censor on "Japanese" involvement - Mu Lihua is supposed to be Jap, and LYL was a chinese traitor working for Japs; censor/tone down the ML/FL relationship - dubbed over some original script such as how they refer to each other, change the words from "love you" to "care for you", and cutting some more lovey scenes like hand holding/hugs etc.

The ending is a mystery, unsure of director involvement or due to plot change/censorship. The screenwriter of the show posted an "epilogue" that shows he comes back years later, so we don't know if its a fix to placate irate fans, or that this ending got cut.

Had a feeling they did follow novel, but then they went through those two censorship failures and had to change stuff. :/

Yeah, I feel the same way about the romance. It gave me "we fell in love because the screenwriter wants us to" vibes. I am still hoping the romance after the angst and memory loss will be good, though.

it seems there were more to the script, but maybe director decision to cut it there for maximum impact? The actors did express surprise at the ending when they went in for dubbing.

First impression of each other:
JT about ZLH: First impression I thought he was super handsome, with nice body. After filming, find out aside from handsome, long legs, also good actor. His personality is very good, with stable emotions. (ZLH reaction: HUH?) Whats with your expression? Are you moody, then?
ZLH about JT: I have seen her dramas and thought she is very mature, older sister. After filming, I found out she is like a cute little girl.
Then they talk about how serious ZLH is with each scene and work well together with JT bringing the female perspective.

The shy one, because the prompt is for him to sing a song, and he says he can't sing. JT is surprised, since her image of him is so cool, so she wants to know why everyone is laughing at her not knowing he sucks at singing. He said JT must not go online much, he trended for his nickname "niuniu" (cowcow) for horrible singing like a cow.

I'll just say its nice to have a real underwater swimming scene instead of the wire/blue screen nonsense.

i have no idea what is going on with the last ep, nothing made sense.

I love the drama so much. One of the bests for sure, despite all the flaws, because there are also so much to love. In my mind, I ended the drama at the end of 23. it was beautiful and my heart was warm and happy with them.

Actors responses lead me to believe they "family-zoned" MiLan's character to SZH. I did notice they changed the dub to "younger sister" during the phone call part, plus she asked him what she is to him, and he said "You are my family". We'll see!

Shoutout to actress Ouyang Nana for portraying MiLan perfectly. I loved her the most when she was blind; the way she was able to act with her body and expressions.

A line in the novel about MiLan: "Milan looked up blankly, her eyes cold and clear, but as if they contained her entire soul."

Based on the trailers and teasers, isn't JY losing memory?
