IMO they threw that plotline in after it failed censorship, so I highly doubt it.
The drama originally meant to follow the novel, which is why I said they had to change it and now its all weird and oddly uneven with the characters and non-sense villains. 1. So they deleted anything that means "vampires" - scenes that show blood, drinking blood, Weilian providing blood, fear of sunlight, shorten some scenes (like that kiss, it was meant to be more "blood hungry"), cut some of the fights were the ML is super awesome with vampire powers, and cut some of Milan knowing hes a vampire. 2. They changed the villains from Japanese and Pro-Japanese to weird army/business guys with a grudge and curiosity about ML. So thats why they threw in the 3 families - to explain his Aunt Wei Qiu as a holder of a powerful star shard instead of "vampire", and also the lady (Mu Li Hua) into one of 3 family instead of a Japanese that wants to use ML's power to create Japanese super-soldiers.
If it follows the book ending, our ML and FL survives and moves away together during the Japanese-Chinese war, but since they cut Japanese, Iono what they will do.

Everything they talk about "companionship" having someone to talk to after work, can be done while dating, but they want to jump into a real marriage? I just kind of wish they had a more poignant relationship in high school first, or start a relationship based on liking each other but shotgun marriage for his mom. hmmm I just have to suspend soo much belief for this.
I just partway through EP 2, and I have a question for those further along:
does it ever explain why ML is so focused on the FL since the beginning? Why does he propose right away? How come his mom thinks they're together? Since high school? I just find him so SUS. I can't imagine one of my high school acquantances showing up and asking me for marriage and I say "yes"??? Has he loved her forever? Is he Zhang Wansen? (Just kidding, this is a shining for One Thing reference)
In the book he doesn't see himself as human, so he doesnt have humanity. He has no problems killing/sucking blood from humans. Our ML wants desperately to be human and remain dignified, but Situ isn't the same. He uses people who can give him benefits, such as his adopted father (Situ He), and he loves money but is too lazy to earn his own. He loves Jingxue for no reason other than primal attraction. He turns some people in the end to vampires (major characters), mostly to "serve" him (also save their life, but he considered the gains first).
He may say some things that show his lack of humanity, such as "why don't we just kill him?" or "why dont you just marry her if you want to save her?" because he doesn't consider the emotional parts of being human.Seems the drama is taking a more different route for him, such as being a better friend to ML, working harder as a doctor to save people. So maybe they change him for the good in the drama! The actor is very likeable right now in his portrayal of such a character.
I think this drama was (1) over edtied to pass review or (2) it's just don't know where to go with the plot(1)…
Went through 2 censorship cuttings and some redubbing so as far as I can tell, from being a novel reader, they cut "Vampire" (removed most scene of blood drinking and the history of vampires), threw in that opener with 3 star shards to explain the vampire powers and future powerful vampires characters. Then removed Japanese details/japanese propaganda/missions, because villain Li is a Chinese traitor and working for the Japs. In first ep he was exposed as working for the japs ,so he wanted to kill ML. Then since exposed, he publicly worked for the japs, and so wanted to work with the ML. The parts he takes over businesses, hes forcing them to hand over chinese busineses to the japanese. But they make it so hes just a mean bully businessman.
