Is this better, same, worse than Mouse? I love love love Mouse, so I am not sure if I should start Beyond Evil.…
Best view it without expectations for you to have an amazing viewing experience. I gave up formulating theories so early in the drama honestly because of everything it’s giving me (even though I am the type to formulate just about anything) lol that’s the kind of drama this is. Better watch it with no comparison or expectations involved. It is a masterpiece either way, I just want you to have a great viewing experience :)
What remained partially unexplained - or maybe I lost track of it - was WHY did Kang Jin Mook kill Yu Yeon in…
Yes true, that’s why I’ve said that although he wasn’t the one who killed her, he was still going to (because she was a witness). She also pointed a finger at him saying something like “what did you do to her” or the like.
Hmmm...all the details were there actually, we just really need to be more attentive to catch them and make sense of them. This would be the reason why the plot was so tight for me, because of the little details they keep on providing, and details that would even make me ask myself why I haven’t noticed them. The tone of “humanity” the drama presented was really brilliant for me, KJM and his abrupt demise included (because a lot of people will carry their perspectives with them to death, not leaving behind anything at all) - I’m even glad the drama chose to present it as is.
It was shown that KJM was caring for her and her caring for his baby before she regressed further to her current state. KJM may have kept mentioning fixing the broiler and doing some construction for it that’s why it stuck to her memory even in a regressed state, so she knew KJM was doing some construction on their basement and maybe she found it suspicious subconsciously or maybe even guilty about how KJM kept on caring for her (guilt is a strong emotion which makes it harder to forget). I don’t actually think she knew anything about LYY’s body being there though, just that she associated “someone taking care of her” which was LDS at that time to KJM (since we’ve seen that KJM did take care of her a lot of times) and told him not to bother with the construction.
I agree with the second season. Would really be happy if they could proceed with that! I really miss this drama ever since it ended.

He actually killed the prostitutes because aside from they reminding him of his wife abandoning him and all, he also doesn’t want them spreading how he was looking for her thus tipping off his wife that he was looking for her (making her hide even more).

Also, it wasn’t KJM who killed LYY, but possibly he was on his way to since she witnessed him killing BSJ (a very straightforward reason actually, no need to dig deep).
Regarding the finger pointing thing, it is actually a very degrading action. Have you not noticed the buildup of how “pointing fingers” became a trigger for him? Every time someone points a finger at him, it would always be followed by a degrading remark such as “you’re useless” “you’re an idiot” or whatever. This then makes him associate pointing fingers with degrading him. Much as how we associate rolling eyes with irritation.

The thing is, this drama never wanted to put any “sympathy” on the serial killer, this was very clear with the direction they were going.
Also, KJM was already married by the time he killed BSJ, that’s why she said something like “are you still looking for her? She already left you with the baby, she was just using you”
The one canon thing that wasn’t explained explicitly was why KJM was so into pretending to be mentally handicapped, but with the little details they’ve given, I’ve concluded (emphasis on “I”) that this would somehow be a sort of defense/coping mechanism since he grew up as an orphan so he needed to be vulnerable for people to pity and take care of him (like how LDS’s family took him under their care)...also this was most convenient when he started killing people as this would make him an unlikely culprit (like how he threatened PJJ’s mom saying the cops would believe him because the whole town knows how he is and no one would suspect him to be telling a lie). Again, I can understand why the director didn’t put much emphasis on why he acted that way, because she never wanted the viewers to sympathize with a killer. The goal was never to understand the killer, rather it was to shed light to the feelings and experiences of those left behind - the family of the victims.
BEYOND EVIL IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE ? I never label something as a “favorite” in general because I know how constant change is but I was so sure that nothing could ever change my love for Beyond Evil!!! For the first time in my life, I have a favorite kdrama! MUST WATCH!
When you mentioned great psychological part yet you expected the serial killer to play a major role...I think…
Why are you so defensive? I wasn’t even trying to argue. I was just stating that if viewers have a different expectation as what the film “should” be then of course they wouldn’t enjoy it if it wasn’t “how they want it to be”.
I did read your comment properly, and that’s why I’ve said what I’ve said I don’t understand what triggered you to even delete your comment when I was also just “commenting” on what you “commented”.
When you mentioned great psychological part yet you expected the serial killer to play a major role...I think that’s the reason why you didn’t enjoy the journey of the greys of human decisions made by the “outsiders” (non-serial killers) of your expectation (serial killer)...which the whole drama was actually all about.
Watching the drama while having different expectations from what it really is, will majorly affect your viewing experience.
If you are scrolling through the comments deciding whether or not to start this drama, I would like to give you…
True! It’s okay to have different preferences, what’s not okay is criticizing a drama and discouraging people from watching it just because you don’t like it...just say the aspects you don’t like and move on, what you don’t like may be what others like. Also, reassess if your expectations actually matches what this drama is, a lot of times it’s because people expect this to be a crime thriller that’s why they say it’s dull, but if you view it knowing it’s a psychological thriller then everything would make sense since the narrative of this drama fits the genre perfectly. If you generally don’t like slow burn, then you really need to manage your expectations while watching.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who viewed the ending as an open-ended one...they showed it with so much “dream-like” feature that suggested how both of them might have died and just met at the after life :((
P.s. I actually would prefer this ending, as it is fitting for the whole narrative, making this drama an utterly beautiful tragedy
There aren’t much loopholes when it comes to details in this drama with the amount of attention they put to it. You just really need to pay attention to the hints they give.
Her mom has two hair clips as shown, and if you can notice KJM was the type to keep something from those he killed (only highlighted was the phone and the clip tho) which is depicted to be common for serial killers.
Some people seem to mistake this drama as simply finding out "who the real killer is"or getting a new suspect…
They keep on forgetting the premise of the drama and how it is a PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER...and keep spouting seemingly “logical” things to defend their opinion. They also forget that an opinion is only valid if it is within context. They miss out on this masterpiece because they keep on making it fit into what they “believe” it is/should be. No, people, this drama is a drama of DEPTH, if you don’t have any perception of depth then, well, I think it shows??? Lolol I hate it when people box-in a drama that ISN’T TRYING TO FIT IN ANY (CLICHE) MOLD. This drama is a STORY, not merely a visual stimulus.
They don’t explicitly address it, just that KMJ was the one behind managing that piece of lot and that he targets…
I think it was indicated more than once in the episodes after that though, and that it all pointed back to KMJ. It was a smooth placement of hints in the scenes that addressed that question :) it was more natural than them explicitly giving away info that won’t play a major part in the direction of the drama.
What happened to those bodies/mass grave they found in Deer farm?? Did they ever address that??
They don’t explicitly address it, just that KMJ was the one behind managing that piece of lot and that he targets mostly prostitutes (the demographics of the bodies found were mentioned) and many prostitutes were missing (based on HJW case leading him to LGH leading to LDS)
