I have never seen a mediocre drama drift higher on Douban after some time. It's usually the outstanding dramas that does this!
Usually, it's the foolhardy hardcore fanatics that rush to see a drama as soon as it airs (and raves about it with overtly optimistic and FAKE reviews on Douban). The second wave of viewers make for a more objective audience (to bring the score down to its actual worth)...

It's a stupid idea. I don't think any modern actress wants to play a character that got raped, unless they're willing to forgo their career and forever play unimportant side characters afterward like the actress who played Ye HongYu that got raped in Ever Night.
Of course actresses like Mao Xiao Hui played it smart. As soon as she finished her work on the now defunct New Condor Returns that seems to have been canceled after it completed filming. She went ahead and starred right away in another drama (The Twin Flower Legend) where the SECOND female lead got raped NOT her thus transferring the stigma to the other actress...
Plus there are much better Jin Yong imitation works out there where the FL don't got raped. The closest imitation of Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nv is the anime Immortality that already got a drama version but I don't think it was very good so deserves another remake. Plus it's set in a xianxia world unlike the stupid wuxia genre that already became extinct and companies like Tencent are just beating on a dead horse...

Ppl who are complaining about the drop in quality and the obvious appearance of green-screening in the second half... Did it ever occur to you that maybe you watched it from a bad video source?
For example Ep1 looked really blurry and grainy on YT (Youku's official channel). I went and sourced the 4K raw videos from an unnamed online source, appended ENG subtitles from another website. And voila it's giving me a much better viewing experience.
Is it really true the second half is bad production quality rather bad video encoding (ie. not the producer's fault but the websites like YT using low quality encoder)?
Can anyone explain the source materials? The S1 style and story felt so "Korean TV drama". BUT wait, I don't think a Korean work ever featured Mt Wudang which is a large part of Chinese culture...

What a cheater. They used (recycled) the same OP/ED credit sequences as S1. At which point it's no longer a proper S2 but an extended S1. I think the Chinese censors should crack down on this kind of cheating behavior which stipulates that a season cannot be longer than 40 episodes.
No. It's a different story than the abomination Season 1 that departed greatly from the source materials. So, even those who watched S1 will need to be filled in with flashbacks explaining the story.

Have you guys ever seen the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics? They look like shiet compared to the stuff that was shown on TV later on as a result of hiring professional cartoonists to "revise" looks of the comics. (Basically what everyone now knows as TMNT look nothing like the characters the creator(s) drew in the original comics).
The same with STAR WARS. George Lucas originally wanted to call it the Adventures of Luke Starkiller... BUT Good thing the studio stepped in and said NO that title!
The author of JoL is not GOD. He simply provides the template or draft work for Tencent to adapt. Stuff like Fan Xian sleeping around with every other women including the Empress of Qi, that kind of stuff will never make it into the drama. So please, if you guys want to know how JoL S3 pans out, don't read the book. Author of JoL wrote a good piece of fiction, but he's not really a professional "cartoonist". They (original authors) all seem to want to promote booze, smoke, drug, and promiscuous sex in the original works. The TV studio is there to clean up all that filth!
So basically, author of JoL wants the TV drama to end with Fan Xian "divorcing" Wan'er to marry Empress of Qi. Tencent said NO, and revised his Starkiller to Skywalker... BASICALLY, my point is that the original JoL story is just unrefined crude garbage that needs a TV studio with greater ethics, morality and professionalism to rework!
Don't you all be reading the book thinking it is gospel on how the drama will pan out... (I don't think anyone can claim the TV cartoon TMNT look worse than the original comics, or STAR WARS sounds worse than Adv of Luke Starkiller, BUT only the reverse!)
EP1 a bit unrealistic. I had a pet albino female parakeet. She's the only parakeet in the world that looked and acted like a miniature EAGLE(-let). I can relate to some scenes in the 1st Ep. BUT the way the phoenix slept with her wings sprawled out on the rocks is unrealistic. Birds tuck their head behind on their backs while stand up and sleep not sleep like a mammal lying flat on the rock!!
This looks interesting. There is no high profile actress behind the banned Fan Bing Bing other than ZLY. Tencent will splurge a lot of money on the effects for this drama solely for having recruited ZLY!
I so sick of Tencent rehashing 3L3W: Bai Qian then becomes mortal then back to Bai Qian (ie. Ancient Love Poetry, The Last Immortal). Legend of Shen Li seems like completely diff storyline not another clone of 3L3W. The one thing they did right in Last Immortal was Ah Yin didn't get pregnant with a god damn annoying kid half way thru the drama!

You don't need no cinema. Xiaomi only started making Redmi movie projectors a couple of years ago. Just recently they released their 2nd gen product. I played it smart letting others be the guinea pigs for the 1st gen. Then when they released the 2nd gen stuff that fixed most ppl's complains, I was ready with my wallet...
You don't need to spend a fortune to have a home cinema setup. Basically I used my bare bedroom wall (no projector screen used) and that worked flawlessly! To make the whole damn thing work, I spent $25 more on some blackout curtains. Now, I don't even care if it's sunny and bright outside, I can use the projector at noon or midnight, the sunlight never interferes!
The best part, also no need no fancy surround sound speaker system. Xiaomi boasts 3D simulated/virtual surround sound coming from the dual speakers embedded within the projector (which they branded as Wanos panoramic sound) and they truly sound 3D to my ears!!
Of course realize that Xiaomi is a poor man's brand. I spent no more than a combined USD $225 shipped to have my Xiaomi projector and blackout curtains. I think most decent computer monitors or TVs cost a lot more than that. If you really have money to blow just skip Xiaomi and get a 4K Hisense laser projector. Last I remember, the regular throw distance Hisense laser projector costs only $1k USD shipped from China...
JUST FINISHED EP40. THIS DRAMA IS NOT BAD BUT ALSO NOT GOOD.
After seeing Gu Jin get struck by lightning in Ep 02 trying to find a way to revive Feng Yin who he never even seen her face, and that God awful melodramatic background song... I wanted to drop THIS drama.
My hunch was correct. I stuck around till the END because I thought I might have missed out on something good... Bleh! In the END if I had dropped at Ep02, I would not have missed out on anything!
This drama is something like MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. Basically in the END of the the drama nothing had CHANGED. Immortals/Gods die then get "reborn"/remade. Even a whole sect got restored. BIG DEAL!!
If you guys want an analogy to this DRAMA, go watch The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie made by DISNEY. Basically the movie starts with some alien spaceship come and blow up the Earth to smithereens. An Earthling managed to hitchhike on a star ship and escape that planetary destruction. Stuff happen in between. Then at the END of the MOVIE, some construction company was hired to reconstruct a mirror Earth planet. The Earthling who escaped the Earth's destruction arrived back on the mirror planet to find his home exactly like the one he had before! MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING!!!!!!!!
The SFX and fights in this drama really suck. The way Qing Lin died, lol did some highschool kid choreographed…
Feng Yin's face change is supposed to be something for China to show case her advanced CGI technology. Remember in Lord of the Ring movie(s) how Theoden the King suddenly changed from a 100 year old-looking man to someone in his 50's? This kind of visual effects opportunity Tencent missed out hugely on!
