TO FAN THE SCI-FI FEVER TENCENT SHOULD also ADAPT TWIN MOONS. They already did the Twin Moons anime in 2016. Basically part of the moon got destroyed, then its movement got out of whack and could collide with the Earth. To counter it, mankind built a second, but much smaller artificial moon to stabilize the moon's orbit, hence the TWIN MOON. And then a bunch of conspiracies involving two factions, the military and all that good stuff. Other than Liu Cixin's works, this could be the next cool Sci-Fi thing to adapt, so Tencent should really consider adapting it into live action, in addition to 3Body S2, S3, etc.

3K GLASSES IN EVERYONE's HOME. I think Ep 5 came as a shocker to everyone when the universe flickered before Wang Miao's eyes. BUT, you should know everyone has a pair of 3K glasses in their home (I think). If you, your siblings, or your parents bought a laptop in the 2010's, those almost all come with TFT screens with very aggressive flickering, like when Wang Miao put on the 3K glasses, but the blinking is much faster. To see the effect, you only need to set the desktop background to pure white and turn the brightness down to 50%. Then wave your hand (or a pen) before the laptop screen and see for yourself the magic of Pulse Width Modulation.
Also, Ep 4, if you look at Yang Dong's room carefully, you can spot a vintage IBM laptop computer on the desk (the ones made by IBM before Lenovo bought them out). It's amazing seeing how much effort Tencent put into acquiring these types of props.

For Tencent it's all about VIP subscriptions! PLUS, they've learnt too much from their moba game business, only a few handful top-up players make the most money for them. The same way for dramas, only a few handful dramas will make them BIG VIP subscriptions. BUT they need the loss making ones to keep their business going like if they don't have free moba players besides the top up players the game will fail because no one to play with. BUT honestly is something as BIG as Liu Cixin a loss making business venture? I think not!

She claims she enjoys it because she visualizes each piece like someone trying to build a house brick by brick, layer by layer. It may not be evident as you're listening to it but by the end of the track, the builder has built a complete house.

You the one who is Hollywood fanboy. Go read the post history. I have bashed Tencent works plenty. To me Hollywood just plain sucks. Hollywood just like Elon Musk. The man just throws billions and billions at stuff so eventually one or two things work and people then call him a genius. Tencent just the opposite of Musk, spend as much as you need to get something done, not over spend like Hollywood.

Get real buddy. This is a TV show, not a movie. No sane company pours millions of dollars into the short CGI sequences of a 1000s minutes long work. To expect "Avatar-level CGI" in a TV drama is laughable!
BUT that does not mean Tencent cannot match Hollywood. Just look at the kind of CGI Tencent done for Sword Snow Stride (when the MC rides a giant turtle swimming in a lake/sea) that kind of scene is Hollywood level CGI+SFX. Also look at Legend of Ravaging Dynasty. When the work demands movie-quality effects, Tencent will deliver it!
BTW, if you really want to hit on the topic, then I will say Hollywood SFX actually sucks compared to Tencent. Like take the worm hole space travel in STAR WARS (aka subspace hyperdrive). It's just a straight monochrome tunnel (like the flat Earth theory, very plain and boring). But look at worm hole space travel in Knights on Debris, inside the worm hole it's very colorful and the wormhole is like a winding tunnel (with twists and turns as the spaceship attempts to get to the exit at the other end) not the plain straight boring one in STAR WARS.
So, look again in Ep 1 at the CGI accelerating particle, you notice it moving thru a very colorful/rainbow matrix (or environment) plus the particle is spinning on the horizontal axis as it moves, like how a speeding bullet is actually twisting as it slices thru the air. If Hollywood had done that exactly same scene, the space matrix would be a very dull monochrome (like in STAR WARS) and the particle non-spinning like a speeding comet contrary to actual reality...
You guys see what I mean, this is what separates the pros from the amateurs! Tencent the only Chinese company that can make a world class drama!
1. WORLD CLASS STORYTELLING. The nano materials scientist the only one that can crack the problem for the military. Bang right in Ep 1 they tell you the MC the only one that can get the job done!
2. WORLD CLASS CGI. The opening full CGI galaxy, Tencent the only company in the world can put so much effort into a 15 second clip. Also, the crosshair targetting the sun then zooms effortlessly past it into the sun. The microscopic view of an accerlating particle inside a particle accelerator. Tencent the only one daring enough to go all out into the atomic/molecular world!
3. WORLD CLASS PROPS. Please tell me another company can replicate the various vintage equipment seen, like CRT computer monitor. Even the military/police captain was playing snakes on an old vintage pre-smart phone phone! Please tell me another company can put so much effort sourcing vintage equipments for props!
4. LOOK AT THE NEWS. Can you name another company make the suicides on the news look like real news in today's world!
5. LOOK AT YE WENJIE's PUBLISHED PAPERS. I majored in science in University and those prop scientific papers look real as fook!! Like pulled directly from Nature (most well reknown scientific) magazine!
REMEMBER folks, Tencent has in house talent in ALL departments (storytelling, directing, CGI, SFX) and they been doing it for years and years! If this show don't end up BEST DRAMA of 2023 in CHINA and ABROAD I WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!!

I finally found some time to stomach the first episode. It sucked. The city scape sucks. If thats how a futurisitic city looks like, then I'm very disappointed. Also, show tries too hard to be cool. You know how Hondas suck compared to Toyotas right? So Honda tries extra hard to look cool like make those Asimov robots to show off their engineering skills. At the end of the day Toyota still sells more cars than Honda. So, just you wait till Tencent airs Three Body, will be much better than the amateurish attempts by BiliBili and Netflix!
Also look at the show from the perspective of a foreigner who never read the books. The show smacks of being written by a smart ass (not the book, just the way this script was written, and I have read the first and part of the 2nd book BTW). Especially the dialogues by professor Luo during his lecture and the commands at the outer space scientific experiment, just sound so smart ass. Plus the CGI looks worse than the first Final Fantasy full cgi movie and it was made in the early 2000's!
BTW, when I say the BiliBili donghua smacks of amateurism, just look at the Panama canal scene. If Tencent had done it, there would be a shot where the nano-wires were attached, then zoomed in to the molecular level following the wire(s) across the canal and a speeding ship approaching those wires in the backdrop. Because BiliBili not an expert in anything, they afraid/unable to CGI zoom into those wires at the molecular level!

IMO iQiYi only MANAGED TO GRAB THE RIGHTS TO THE DRAMA BECAUSE TENCENT HESITATED TO DO THE LIVE ACTION. BL only became banned in China becoz of Tencent's work The Untamed. Zichuan looked like BL between NOT 2 men but 3 men. May be the reason why Tencent doesn't want to do the drama becoz they already stigmatized for BL...

Most dramas I rewatch I'm like "been there done that" on the second viewing. BUT this drama is even better on the second viewing!
