Let me jolt your memories a bit. At the end of The Untamed, Wei Wuxian became a friggin loner blowing his flute on the mountain. Even his best buddy Lan Zhan left him to be.

When HF wouldn't hand over the twin boys to Ziyi, she grabbed her hair and cut off the tip as a promise. In the eyes of God, Ziyi was trying to remind him the relationship between them were based on promises and if he broke the promise (to listen to her in everything), it would result in something like her losing (all) her hair... and become a nun.
HF could have married Ziyi if he didn't ended her dad's life that resolves her karma with him, allowing her to become a full-fledged Buddhist lunatic!!
(BTW, I am sick of seeing these ascetic characters that shun the secular world in drama series. I don't think Tencent done it. Tencent had a stake in Mirror Twin Cities but it was released as a Croton production. Because Tencent was a minority share holder. So was not a proper Tencent drama that y it never got shown on WeTV. Same with unreleased RoCH 2018. That also not proper Tencent production. You can't expect Tencent to deploy their resources and make magic out of the drama when they're not the majority share holder. That y CGI in Twin Cities so lame compared to typical Tencent production.
Also, I don't think Tencent interested in Jin Yong other works very much. They're more looking for stories with tragic ending or can be modified to one. Most Jin Yong works end in a happy tune and don't fit this criterium.
BUT Tencent likes to invest their money. Many shows will have Tencent brand attached but only as an investor with no Tencent magic actually going into the drama...

IMO, true love is when two people feel sexual attraction for each other then that attraction develops into what we common called love... So kudos again to Tencent for not binding HF to any of the two girls in the end!

This type of drama the new PG-13. I think China foresees some kind of war in the immediate future what with US constantly meddling in Taiwan issue. These kinds of gruelsome scenes are meant to be a new norm to desensitize people from gore and death so they can better handle themselves mentally if they encounter such situation in real life defending Chinese territory on the battlefield. Think of them as mentally preparing people for a war in the present chaotictime... You can all thank Uncle Sam for forcing China to upgrade gory scenes in TV shows...

What I hate the most in dramas, when the female loves the guy but the guy only sees her as like a sister. Still the writer makes them a couple in the end. It's as if the female is the one that gets to define love not the male. So, how is that fair to the MC? True love is when both parties feel for one another not this one sided love between HF and Ziyi and HF and Lingsu. So kudos to Tencent again for making ending tragic but real!
BTW, part way thru the drama, I felt that Ziyi was a beautiful and good hearted but cold bitch woman and I was right. HF deserves much better than Ziyi. It a shame drama ended right there not the part where he actually meets his REAL soulmate who is neither Ziyi nor Lingsu...

ZJZ trademark is people riding horses fast thru muddy dirty shallow water and filming in slow mo so you can watch the actors and actresses getting splashed by what appears to be sewage-looking water! 1. Immensely rich with unlimited monetary resources 2. Expert in CGI and SFX 3. Best choreographers in the industry 4. Best camera-men/directors in the industry 5. Best script writers in the industry 6. Arrogant and proud don't see them beneath any other production company in talent and skills
It's a one-oft thing though. I don't think Tencent wants to do another Jin Yong adaptation. They chose Fox Volant because most people are only familiar with Condor Heroes and probably never heard of this, so has surprise and intrigue value to them.
The only BAD thing about Tencent is they took after Shakespeare too much. All Shakespearean stories end up in tragedy. Tencent too keen on making tragic endings for the MC in all their works...
This drama has the best most handsome cast. The one with Jin Dong/Joe Chen... Bleh! The movie with Angela Baby... Bleh! This Shirley Yang is the hottest looking one yet. And Hu Bayi, just too cocky and badass!

Other candle in the Tomb series are stand-alones. This one is part 2 of another show. You don't actually have to watch part 1. Just know that in Part 1, they finally found the meteorite orb that can cure their diseases but don't have a clue how to use it. Hence Part 2 is about you already have the answer but need to find the question to that answer!

BTW, Zhao Lusi aint even that hot to begin with. The most beautiful female ever in C-ent for me was Zhao Wei producer of Word of Honor, FL of Shaolin Soccer, etc. But there's been too many controversy around her so she effectively black-listed in China I think. Plus she getting old now, over 40 years old. The next most beautiful female in C-ent for me has to be the FL of Side Story of Fox Volant. I haven't seen a female actress so pretty since the young Zhao Wei.

Li Yifeng is now a detained criminal in China. One of many reasons why I didn't like Mirror Cities. ML looks overtly aggressive, doesn't look like your typical do-gooder protagonist.
Title is very misleading. They shouldn't have used "Side Story". Only 12 episodes released so far. If I was clueless, I would have thought this was a "Mini Series" with not more than 20-30 episodes and not be interested at all in watching!
China finally made it's first GOOD Jin Yong adaptation. All the other ones that came before it made by other companies sucked. Especially the most recent HSDS. I wouldn't say that it sucks, sort of decent but could have been way better. Side Story of Fox Volant is the kind of drama quality you get when you have a rich company with years of experience in the drama industry and lots of talent in directing and writing/adapting.
The only reason why Tencent CAN make good dramas where other companies fail because other companies only care about selling rights to air their dramas on TV channels. Tencent is a different beast. If they made just ONE bad drama, they can expect WeTV subscriptions to take a nose dive! Thus Tencent is a subscription oriented profiteer whereas other companies are airing oriented profiteer. Tencent got too much stakes to make ONE bad drama!
4-5 years after Jin Yong died he finally got ONE good drama adaptation of his stories! And BTW, Fox Spirit Matchmaker drama gonna suck. Watch how Yang Mi destroys it the same way Croton destroyed Mirror Twin Cities.
