A bit underrated. I liked the direction this movie went in. Even though there were some blood and guts, and a handful of GOTTTCHA moments, the fear and atmosphere of the movie relied on acting and directing. The characters created the drama and suspense, not a bunch of lame cgi or special effects. I think this reflects the director's confidence in the story. Yes, the movie allowed for some independent though along the way, but yeah, I don't want to know the ending halfway in. There are plenty of hints and clues to kind of guide you towards some conjecture and speculation. Again great. Yeon Je Wook nails the weird kinda goofy sidekick. I dithered between an 8 and 7.5, so my official independent rating is 7.766666666666666666666666666. Ha!
What a powerful line. Completely captures the tone of desperation. I have watched 5 mins of this and it is moving my emotions already. No reason to keep living, writing a suicide (?) last communication. And she drops the line. "I don't know who to say goodbye to". Man o man. Rare 3 minutes in and entire heart ache is set to feed on. Well back to it. Quick binge I see now.
Done. I am so impressed. Some episodes so brutal I could not watch. Some episodes so dramatic I could not breath. A tear in the back of my throat 70% of the time. Beautifully acted. Perfect cast. Brilliant writing and directing. The story is so powerful. The word "home" becomes so meaningful and heartbreaking. The ending, icing on the cake. Being a man of a certain age, I am going to admit it really pushed my emotions button. I will miss the characters in this story. I feel connected, vigorously cheering for their happiness. Good-bye friends, until the next letter. Rare air for me 9.5/10.
I have watched this 10 times over 3 years. Awesome choreography. Korean and Thai, my favorite languages in that order. Love it. Pinkaew is a master at action movies and talent development. He gets more out of the stars than most.
The cast is fantastic. Good writing and directing. Much better than I imagined it would be. Wato is ten times better than Watson. I got fully vested in Wato. I bought this on Fandango. $15 worth every penny. Closing scene 10/10. Japanese actress Yuko Takeuchi, who was playing “Miss Sherlock” in the series, died on September 27, 2020. I just read this. Twice. It's in MDL profile I just didn't see it. Crying sad, no.
Kim Seo Hyun is the reason i started this. In the scenes where the time is the present, the actors are doing good work. But, the movie is like throwing rubber balls into a room and trying to watch them bounce around. I also think the action in many scenes is rife with stifling, smothering the action with bad camera angles. The plot - dad got killed daughter going to get revenge and then who knows. 6/10 dropped, 40 mins in.
The more I re-watch this the harder the Northern Lights scene becomes. Lee Min Young/Chae Hee Soo is top one or two most compelling characters I have watched. I rate this a 10.6 - I have rewatched 6 times. The mix of campy humor, dark emotions, and pure sadness is perfect. Lee Yoo Ri is my #4 favorite actresses. The range of emotional personality she puts out is as perfect as she was in Come Jang Bo Ri.
