If the drama was more like the last 10 episodes from say ep 30 and on, it would have been a great drama. The fight between the two gangs, changing allegiances, being caught, stealing from each other, etc like, BH's mom should have been caught long time ago and then ... escaped, released, caught again, etc ... bonsai trees stolen but then restolen, etc.

plus characters showing their inner dilemmas and trying to resolve them - that was almost 100% missing in this drama. There is practically NO character growth. That is a super serious fault of this drama.

plus of course some affection and romance - I dont mean hwood romance and scenes in bed, not even kdrama kisses are necessary really, etc but I mean being together in intimate ways like a couple - TALKING in intimate ways, spending time in more loving warm intimate ways, going on dates, doing things together, flirting... . We never even ONCE got to hear BH and JM talk like a couple. NEVER EVER. That is sooo weird!!!! Has she even said "I love you"?

The entire 130 eps, BH and JM behave like a psychiatric nurse / detective BH and his client, mentally disabled person JM, trying to catch a thief, There is absolutely NOTHING between them except that BH feels entitled to think he has to dedicate his life to serve her no matter how crude she is to him and no matter how stupid she is, lying to him, hiding things to him, and generally, just causing trouble. IT IS SO TOXIC!!!!!!

Only in like ep 130 JM said stuff like "this is my husband" and she held his hand across the table... but I never even once heard her say I love you, or hugged him, or sat close and held his hand, NOTHING. There is not one scene where they talk about their past or themselves, or where she comforts him, or where he questions himself, or where they argue and make up, or where they are lovey dovey for real. Not even one scene of her helping him put his tie on, or patting his head, NOTHING. He kept trying to kiss her as@ which was super weird and toxic.... If there was anything attempted lovey dovey, that was BH on his own, pushing it onto JM, who just coldly brushed him off, making fun of him. It is so sterile stupid. It is like elementary school stuff. Is this really an adult couple??? Nope it isnt. BH was a doormat and DumbJM ran him over non-stop, and he never ever stood up to her. They are a very TOXIC RELATIONSHIP, they are so stale and stagnant together, they never GREW together. Well they grew to the point where JM at least became somewhat smarter, but essentially as ppl, they never grew. BH was "frozen" as one-dimensional character who is only good and loyal. JM ... omg that character is soooo bland, so shallow, so dumb, needs a whole essay but in short, JM is ... a very weak person.

and BH is the same from ep 1 to ep 133. ok he was interesting for the first 30 eps but then... he stays totally stale. LIKE HE IS HIRED HELP FOR JM. He is not the quality of ML. He essentially has a servant role.

And yeah. actors. JH actor had to go to a cram acting school and he did not. Thats quite ... nervy, saucy, daring of him, and also of everyone who didnt force him to improve asap.

Why do they continue writing jh as if he’s bothered by murder? It’s like the comments of being disgusted by…
Seems like you are not familiar with psychology of addicts and toxic ppl. This little bit that I know will help you understand why JH is behaving so weirdly.

Addicts for whatever reason hate themselves so they resort into addiction, and then they are even more ASHAMED of themselves, but the addiction is too strong - so they keep on doing their addiction and being more and more ashamed. **** JH is in that situation.****

JH always felt like a kid all alone in the world, and very bitter and angry, closed heart, isolated, aggressively trying to survive. His adopted family was just strangers to him, free room and board, a free hotel for him..... . And he wanted his mommy.... !!!!! . Now mommy showed up and she is a serial killer. JH is ashamed but also he feels stuck with it - his mommy is gonna give him JM, his mommy is gonna give him DreamGroup, his mommy gives him sweet loving words and talks to him how much she missed him and how much she loves him. THAT sweettalking part and "gifts" is JH's addiction.

JH is a super complicated character is it is a MURDER literally that such unskilled actor got that role. The nerve of JH actor himself to NOT take one acting lesson during the drama despite all the complaints that he cannot act!!!!!!!! Seriously which moron did let JH actor continue as a humanoid robot, and what brains does the director/writer have to keep letting JH actor behave like a humanoid robot.

So JH feels bad that his parents are killers... that good part of JH was nourished and strengthened while he lived with BH family.
JH naturally has that good part - e.g. he loved SH when he was a kid and he was grateful she gave him food.

however, JH also feels allegiance to his bio mother - AND ALSO HE FEELS GREED - he wants to grab and own JM bc he wants to..... AND THAT IS WHAT WINS - THE LITTLE BOY IN HIM THAT WAS WAITING FOR HIS MOMMY - while some weird strange family took care of his leukemia, fed him, gave him a home, sent him to schooll. etc - WHILE HE WAS WAITING FOR HIS MOMMY TO RETURN - and she finally did return -
but .... JUST RETURNING WOULD NOT BE ENOUGH lmao since JH is super calculated ..... just being his mommy was not enough to win him over.... he didnt take his mommy until mommy gave him the gift, promised she will get him JM.... well that didnt work out... but then mommy promised she will get him Dream Group... ok let's take something, it is better than nothing lmao
So that evil part is naturally JH's too. He is greedy calculated careful R A T. Slithering snake.

So JH naturally has the good part, strengthened by the upbringing of his adoptive family, and the bad part, unfortunately his closed heart not addressed by his adoptive family, and the his cold greedy egotism kept alive and strong by his elbowing forward his whole life.

So now JH is 100% mommy's, and he is the gang boss in the gang of his mommy HY. And he still hates her bc she is a criminal so he feels disgusted that he is a criminal too - and also he feels doomed and disgusted that he *is* a criminal and there is no way out... - so he keeps on doing crime with HY....

so he is still internally torn between what he knows is right and the sweet talking slithering anakonda that totally hypnotized him into believing she is gonna get him JM and that she is his "mother." KAPUL mother!!!!

**** HY is just using JH. She started looking for him after 30 years and ONLY when she needed a reliable henchman and concluded that only a blood-related son will be adequate for the job. THEN she looked for him. *****
BUT JH DOES NOT WANT TO SEE THAT. He is smart enough and I am sure he figured it out, but he blocks it out of his mind.

SO THIS SUPER COMPLEX COMPLICATED CONFLICTED CHARACTER IS GIVEN TO A TERRIBLE ACTOR. THIS IS A MURDER OF THE DRAMA .
The guilty of murder: JH actor, director/writer, producer, and his colleagues, who did NOT kick JH actor to a fast-track acting school so that he *could* act in this drama.

Well for a change we got a smart capable confident and action oriented FL - that makes more interesting plot possible... Maybe... bc ML actor is totally underutilized again - poker face on this super expressive creative actor... ??? it is silly to say the least, and also he knows he is faking it. It is rather tragicomic to watch this pretense

And the feel.... him falling so fast... and she being push-pull and he having to chase her.... wow such a delulu fantasy for female office workers. This drama is gonna start some major office problems in real life lmao

I have not lmao
monsters, cookie cutter "manga-looking", etc .... are boring at best, and creepy at worst :) esp when plastic surgery so stiffens their muscles that they cannot move facial muscles and thus cannot act
and esp when they diet so much and look like skeletons and have NO energy to act
I dont want to watch robots with empty batteries, barely moving around :(

Oh yeah 100% agree, JH actor - not the role - in First Man is "like a flawed humanoid - built to look & mimic the behavior of a human etc. "
JH role is the most complex role, so rich, gold mine for acting - and then that robot just cannot do it. Whoever put him there and KEPT him there and did NOT force him to take acting lessons asap to make his acting better asap - that person is guilty for ruining the drama :) imo

yeah MJ actor is really bad..

Dan Hui although not terribly expressive has enough microexpressions that make me feel like there is a live person under that face , and it fits that role, hiding for 30 yrs

To be fair, all of the male leads are at least somewhat attractive to someone who is over 30. Ma Gong Bok might…
Ma Gong Bok is actually super cute bc he is LIVELY and ENERGETIC ..... and he is handsome.... but ..... gangster by deep belief lmao the "look dont touch" type of guy lmao i.e he is actually attractive and highly comedic and entertaining to watch lmao AS LONG AS YOU CAN JUST WATCH HIM FRoM AFAR, that is... :) bc he believes in gangster life, he is super toxic and dangerous. He is like ... a yappy energetic little ... criminal doggie :)

His boss is ... hm... ok ... until he opens his mouth lmao Then he ruins it all :) His whiny angry voice and what he says is like .. please, be quiet..
Same for the current gang leader...

NIS agents, and In Goo (spelling?) with all due respect, are not good looking at all :) At least they are cool and well trained lmao

Bulgae is very interesting bc he is super smart and POWERFUL even in his "meek uncle" role, and yeah, I agree, he is attractive as a caring uncle and even as a spy - but in his spy mode, he is just poisonous - a very beautiful poisonous CRUEL viper
It was so interesting how he lost any genuine care for ppl as soon as he became Bulgae again.. and as an uncle, he was feeding the prosecutor and displaying great gentleness and care

Director Do is super suave polished urban type "metrosexual" manicured ah sooo well groomed dude, he looks like ... a lackey, a club goer, an urban socialite, a poodle..... ... perfect for casinos! etc lmao but creepy smart and evil, so all his good looks and polish are ... wasted :)

Imo the most handsome truly handsome is the Main Villain politician/exNIS Han. Wow he is handsome! and polished and suave etc but omg is he SLIMEY EVIL, 1000% he is wow evil toxic slimey Like a super beautiful giant anaconda... He just coils around ppl and eats them alive. slowly munching and giving them a sermon while he devours them. He is the slimiest evil MONSTER

artificially created plot to drag the remaining 50 eps
I WAS REPLYING TO YOUR LAST SENTENCE: "lol ugh it does not look like it from the preview. Chloe looks determined to stay on the broken path."

and so I was saying that Chloe rejecting collaboration is artifically dragging the drama
of course that sooner or later they should collaborate but the drama is dragging it

I am not even sure why he was such a famous actor. I loved his alien Do Min and that's it. But he did not have to act there - he just had to be stiff and serious. The costuming and special effects made him hilarious, and a few lines here and there. The rest of that drama is trash, FL was so cringe dumb.

I saw his dramas It's OK not to be OK, and Queen of Tears, and he was mediocre at best and the dramas were mediocre at best.
In IONTBO the only interesting role was the disabled brother, and in QoT, the only interesting role was the villain - I think he was a villain in Glory? (imo The Glory has excellent villains lmao and super trashy boring main leads, as script and acting.. )

So in any case, I do NOT plan to watch this actor.

=====

and as for the scandal - .... who knows what really happened.

I know for sure that, where there is smoke, there must be fire... and.... Korea is openly sexist. It is well known that so many male figures got away with stuff and that women were slashed for basically anything.

After watching so many kdramas and so many online stories, I do not trust "police investigations" esp when they are investigating rich and influential man lmao So I choose to just disregard any news regarding this scandal. I do not feel qualified to have an informed opinion.

In any case, this actor was somehow involved with a very young person and that raises red flags for me. Maybe nothing illegal happened but there is certainly something fishy and karmically bad about this. He admitted to dating 19 yr old when he was 31..... 19 yrs old is legally adult in Korea... but ... a 19 yr old cannot match a 31 yr old ..... I do not believe that he was some naive guy who got duped.... Yes sure per kdramas he might have some ghosts or monsters or goblins or Judge From Hell or some skilled female villainess' causing trouble in his life... but ... usually those are all results of bad karma...

So I am staying away

Ok if you think so.

For some reason, plastic surgery "opening" Asian eyes makes them look bulged out and totally hideous scary. I have seen it on other actors

Everyone has their own beautiful eyes and they should use them
and even small eyes can be super impactful, like Ma Bok young gangster in Fifties Professionals, or SML gangster in The Nice Guy, their eyes are PIERCING and super memorable and impactful

It is a total shame to be butchering one's face to look like someone else

yeah sure the push to look young and beautiful is there, but that creates hideous monsters like Cher and others

WHAT MAKES EYES IMPACTFUL IS INTENT AND ENERGY, not the size

Dailies are only 30 mins every day. So... your strategy could be to watch all eps at once at the end of the week lmao

But a long drama like that allows for a lot more deeper plot and a lot more details, and a lot more characters and side characters.
So yeah it CAN BE interesting, like Our Happy Days, imo is super interesting. And in the worst case, like for First Man or some parts of Pearl in Read - the crying, sobbing, too emotionally sticky overdramatic parts of Pearl in Red - you can fast forward through it lmao

I am totally flabergasted, it has been 140 episodes and JH actor did not invest one minute to improve his acting, he is as bad in ep 130 as in ep 1.

JH is a cold stiff person, sure, but how JH was acted, is just ... make believe obvious pretense, like child's play. JH was such a complex character, such a GOLD MINE for acting.... creative skilled acting of JH role would have improved the drama so much

ep 62 and man I hate Chloe so much.....wondering if I should continue or just drop the drama
Chloe is super dumb. I think Chloe character is concocted to make a break from the old tired trope, the usual sexist pattern of old kdramas, where women are totally stupid, naive, reactive, iffy, insecure damsels in distress that need protection and a man to keep saving them from their own stupidities.

BUT the recent trend is to cater to Western audience and show #### EQUALLY #### stupid women but this time with enough brains to be greedy and illictly - and stupidly - trying to grab something for themselves. So it looks like the woman is "doing" something, like she is "smart" but in fact, she is just a dumbo who is greedy and smart enough to think of nasty things to do to others to benefit herself. Western audience calls her "morally gray" but she in fact is DUMB AND NASTY

So that's Chloe. DUMB AND NASTY IGNORANT

In short, kdramas made a progression from DUMB AND KIND women to DUMB AND NASTY women, but always - ignorant, unaware, causing problems

***** Pearl in Red is a very raw soapy soap, ALL CHARACTERS ARE CONNECTED VIA MURDER, 4 of the main characters are serial killers, one is their son, and 4 are the victims seeking revenge. So the drama is based on UTMOST TOXICITY ***** This drama is heavy, nothing moves on as characters keep digging themselves into more sh.t by constantly making wrong choices.

CHLOE IS ACTUALLY A VILLAIN, she keeps pushing the script into more and more toxicity

*** The only good thing about this drama is that the drama creates deep emotional wounds and inner and outer conflicts to the characters AND THE DRAMA SHOWS on the screen how characters face and wrestle with their conflicts and complexities. *** Entire HJ role is that. That actor is a rising star. And the villains are really special, Chairman is an excellent actor, and even the Wife-Lapdog villains are multifaceted, the serial killer wife knows about true love etc. YN is too simple one dimensional psychopath, so the only value of YN on the screen is that the actress is pretty. Her mom and dad are a lot more interesting complex shades of shady characters

Unfortunately, the drama does NOT let Chloe work out her complexities and inner conflicts on the screen. Chloe is shown totally shut down, numb, and blindly forging forward into revenge, like a moth to a flame, totally DEAD to herself and without any real plan or reason.

Chloe is essentially a crazy mad babe lost in the woods, by her own choices.

In short, CHLOE IS A SUPER WEAK CHARACTER AND SUPER SHALLOW CHARACTER so that is why it is boring to watch her .

Chloe has stale, toxic script and then it is a lot worse bc the acting is so one dimensional too.... either the actress is limited in acting it - or doesnt know how to act... I have never seen that actress anywhere else, but someone else wrote they saw her in another drama where she did act well, and I saw her in this drama with various facial and body expressions so I somehow concluded that she COULD act but is not allowed to. I might be wrong on that.

The director/script writer needs to let Chloe wrestle with herself, that will be a lot better plot and acting. If Chloe gets more complex, the drama will improve *A LOT*
MJ script kinda lets him wrestle but MJ actor lacks the skillZ to act that, he looks like a fashion model trying to act... so stiff... . If that actor gets some acting lessons asap, the drama will significantly improve.
As is right now, HJ actor is carrying most of the work

And, if you want to see a real female character and/or constructive plot, then watch daily Our Happy Days, FL Eun Ae is written as a very realistic strong, smart and warm young woman - with flaws but nothing major - and the actress really brought her to life so well. That drama is a pleasure to watch. No ridiculous scripts, and the plot is made by very rich detailed portrayals of details from daily life. It is very very very well done, with masterful acting by everyone, well except ML. ML actor is... too stiff and pretentious, like he is holding back and intentionally not acting. Often scenes with him show that he is faking the character. But everyone else seems 100% real, and there is a lot of subtle comedic effects, esp bc the 2 key villains are so paradoxically funny and annoying. It is a great family drama in 30 min dosage :) bc each character is complex and paradoxical, and the overall "feel" is a lot lighter and brighter, and issues get resolved quickly
