what’s the relationship between the emperor and Male lead ?
The ML's birth parents were long dead. But his adoptive mother is the emperor's sister. So, he's the emperor's nephew, though not by blood.

Ow wem gee.. I feel the same as you about the FL. I'm now rooting for her brother's relationship with the ren girl. If ever there's any development. I expect nothing from the FL right from the very start. Just a bit intrigued with the plot.

Glory: A Love Story That Forgot Its Own HeartGlory has left a bitter taste, which lingers precisely because its…
I totally agree.
In my opinion, this drama is written more realistically. The characters were not perfect, not even the main leads. There could be coercion, manipulation, blah blah blah, but then no story is a complete fairytale.
I also agree that the ML deserved to be treated better and all. But the world was never fair.
And then it was his choice to pursue her. He wasn't threatened to be killed or anything to make him beg for her attention. Despite several times he was frustrated with her reactions to him and even said to stop admiring her. But of course, he was just stubborn, and there's nothing we can do.
That's just it. He completely locked himself on her.
So, let's just let LJL love whomever he wants to.
And that's only RSB, whether we like it or not.
That's all.

OOC? Why blame Lu Jiang for bravely fighting for what he wants?I don't think Lu Jianglai's character collapsed…
Well said! Truly well said.
That's what I also thought of LJL's character and his desire that got exposed in the last arc. He just wanted familial love and a sense of belonging. He genuinely felt that with RSB.

We really have the same view of their characters. nice one. don't care about what others would say...

From the very beginning, RSB clearly stated what she wanted. The Rong leader status and to take in a husband. We couldn't blame her for how she treat LJL for that was her decision and LJL still accepted and loved her even through all her actions towards him. It's also LJL decision to go with her in the end, despite what others say about it being manipulative of her or blah, blah, blah... LJL also stated even before that he only wanted to be with her and that's it. He was happy enough just being with her.

True. The last arc seemed like her turn to prove how much she loves him in her own way. The Rong way. It was like all or nothing.

Hi, thank you for your comment. :) Can I have a few questions?1] You mentioned that the ML being toned-down was…
Hello. This is just all from my understanding and insights.

1. He could appear toned down, but actually, it was just how he was in his down moment. Just like in real life. We have our ups and downs. And ML was experiencing it and that's how he responded to his dilemma.

About the Jiang case. I'm guessing that's the investigation you were asking about.
In my opinion, RSB wanted LJL to have the least to do with the case for she knew that Jiang would also implicate LJL. Jiang was planning to report to the emperor that LJL was biased for being personally involved with RSB and would slander LJL for colluding with RSB in keeping bandits and probably rising rebellion. Though it wasn't really a secret that LJL admired her, RSB didn't want him to risk his position for her, knowing that she could take Jiang down. It was a current major case for Jiang, who was an important official, and RSB was from the Rong clan, which had a huge reputation and was one of the most prestigious families. RSB hid things from LJL for his own benefit so that he wouldn't be implicated. And she knew that LJL wouldn't much care for his position just to help her. RSB wouldn't allow that.
She doesn't want him to lose his position because of her. She believed so much in him, how righteous he was and his potential. And she also doesn't want to lose her position as the Rong clan leader because of him. LJL knew that too, that's why he was willing to help and go all out for her. But RSB has her own methods and she is too self-reliant.

In short, not everyone loves the same. RSB loves him in her own restrained, controlled way. And LJL loves her in his own expressive and charming actions.

As for the duke arc.
LJL, before coming to the capital, was a free man. He could wander around freely, even when he was still in the Rong mansion. He wasn't restrained from where to go or what to do. After years of becoming an imperial inspector, he had his freewill. AND THEN, he got summoned to the capital due to the emperor's decree of filial piety. He was cornered by the duke's family that he would be punished and could get executed. That was what got him in such a state. He was forced to get back to the family that he DEEPLY HATED. So, of course, all emotions attacked him. He was contained for a month.

It was really a big change for his character. BECAUSE he was psycologically and emotionally attacked. Before, when he was solving cases, he had all his wits and schemes. I believe it's because those cases weren't directly involved with him personally. He could observe in the distance without feeling anything but just pure job. But this time, he wasn't the inspector, LJL was the case himself. And he had deep hatred for these people, that feeling was what also made him lose his bearing. It was too personal because they were related by blood.

That was also when RSB came, she said that he had changed and lost his usual self because he was drowned by emotions. Hatred is a pretty strong feeling. And when LJL met his brother, he even allowed himself to be more oblivious to what's happening around. LJL was expecting that he would feel at least a little welcoming feeling from his brother but he was disappointed, for he got treated just like they weren't related at all. That meant that LJL was feeling hopeful that he would have a warm brother for they were full-blooded siblings. LJL somehow wanted to feel familial love even just from him because he was lonely ever since his mother died and the adoptive father.
So, for having all those mixed emotions, RSB even told him that clues were just in front of him but he wasn't even seeing them or trying not to notice them for he let his emotions dominate his mind. When LJL realized them and what RSB said, he refused to hear the actual truth so he stopped her for he already knew when he tried to disconnect himself once from his emotions toward his family.

2. RSB left the horses for him in case he had finally made up his mind and that he would be able to catch up to her. She was laying all her cards for him out there actually, handing out almost everything. It's not a test of his character. It's her letting him choose. If he stayed, then so be it, but if he was willing to follow, then she would give him the ride. I bet she would even build a bridge for him to get to her. RSB is just a very capable woman that she could do almost everything.

WELL... i hope that answers your questions. But i repeat, that's just my analysis of their characters and the scenes.

IMO the last arc was necessary as it showed that LJL is equal if not superior to RSB 's social standing so it's…
exactly. He just wanted to be loved and feel like he belonged. And he genuinely felt that with Rong Shan Bao despite her cold persona most of the time. And he somehow got attached to the Rong clan during his amnesiac days. hehe

This is just fully my opinion.

About the trump card, the jade seal, I admit it was a bold move and a little awkward. But she really aced up her female boss persona in the last arc. That jade seal is their family's ultimate hidden card, and she used it against the duke family not just to prevent the Rong clan from being controlled but, of course, for her LJL that was suffering for them. It was like hitting two birds with one stone.

And in this arc, we also see how RSB got herself involved with LJL after most of the Rong clan's dilemma had calmed down. She was now more focused with him. Though she could have been more open and all but of course, she's Rong Shan Bao. A Rong woman was never the typical one. That was just who she is, who they are. We can't fully relate to them for they were not a typical family from the very start.

In my opinion, most of the character's emotions and actions were more realistic than other dramas. The FL felt endless pressure that made her cold personality bloom throughout the show, and of course, that won't easily change just because of a man. Even if it's for LJL. And the ML had issues, despite being strong in the first half. In the second, him being toned down wasn't really a toned-down. For me, it was just a test of his character because he grew up lonely and deprived of familial love mostly. And he saw that in the Rong clan despite them competing for the leadership. The sisters still have that familial bond if they put everything aside.

Having his down moments felt realistic. He had been strong throughout his adulthood. He didn't let himself feel weak much back then. So it was all pent-up now that he almost lost it in the last arc. For the FL, she had lived normally enough before her mother died and after that, she just came out strong.

PS: I also loved the part about how assuming she was when she left the two horses for Lu Jiang Lai and his servant to catch up. Those were fast horses too, as LJL pointed out. It was a gamble for her confidence, but of course, our ML won't disappoint her again.
