So much for a cliffhanger but that ending was already used more than once in movies, i.e The Skeleton Key and most recently in Get Out. The combination of horror-thriller in a BL plot is sure an interesting idea but this movie was way subtle than expected and lacked the gripping punch that will make it a standout. Still it’s a decent film.
Now I’m quite confused, aren’t they the same yaoi and boys’ love (BL)?
I read somewhere before that yaoi is the contemporary term used in Japan for male to male erotic - romance umbrella where BL falls under as a subgenra. As such, BL refers to commercialized fiction and fictional media made by and for women which is not only restricted to manga and novels but also audio dramas, anime, games, and live adaptation. But yeah I agree that these terms, depending where you from, tend to have different meaning among fans outside Japan.
Initially I thought this has to be the most interesting among the three installments of En of Love, however, this one turned out to be the weakest. It is shallow, one dimensional, monotonous, bland and dry. When you compare Love Mechanics and This is Love Story, one completely knock it out of the park while other sink into oblivion.
It’s actually a decent movie, quite appropriate and honest but somehow unfulfilling. It's all pretty predictable stuff: inner demons are faced and it has it's fair share of love, lust, jealousy - and, of course, family problems that all weigh heavily on them as they struggle to find and accept love.
I’m quite ambivalent about this movie. I don’t know if I’m supposed to like or hate it. At first I really can’t take Maki’s feelings for Ruiko seriously when he’s on a f*cking spree with different guys every night. Then personally I hate the way how he helped Ruiko passed the exam. But still I ended up sobbing in tears knowing that Maki really cared and loved Ruiko selflessly. The ending was kind of a bummer though coz they never really had the chance for closure.
I really despise characters like Tachibana, who despite being in a relationship can’t seem to draw some boundaries when dealing with friends. And don’t get me started with this character called Mizusawa, just so annoying, though I feel a bit sad for her. Nonetheless, Tachibana and Ootani had a great chemistry together and I’m glad it all worked out well for them in the end. P.S I am absolutely in love with their matching lock and key pendants
For me, watching the whole series feels like walking on egg shells. There’s a constant feeling of dread that Takumi and Giichi might not end up being together or worst someone might die. Arghhh why can’t they just be happy together? But by far this one is my favourite among the five movies in the series.
Just like in the previous movie, I know Gii had his reasons for his actions but sometimes I think those antics were selfish and unfair towards Takumi and for making the poor guy cry every time I wanna give him a double smack on the head.
Since this was deleted on Imagine Thailand’s YouTube channel, I watched this on Facebook with Thai audio and Spanish subtitles. The catch is I don’t speak Thai and also I’m not Spanish. Well, a day in the life of a BL fan.
