That's entirely fair. I mean, IKEA might be cheap, but it is popular for a reason. And it's not for nothing that…
I would agree that tropes with good actors and a good script directed well are worth watching. Tropes are largely unavoidable as they are everywhere.
Some shows are worth constant mockery. However, I don’t see constant mockery in this thread. Perhaps your definition of mockery and mine are different. This can’t be helped. In the end, we are all free to voice our opinions on platforms such as these. The beauty of free will and the blessings of age is that I no longer stress over every word possibly causing someone to feel out of sorts. We cannot please everyone. As I am no politician, I have no inclination to please everyone. I am no mediator, so I have no need to speak both sides as if a consensus was necessary.
Maybe someone in the production sector or writing sector will see the comments and change something. Maybe not. Either way, life goes on. As do like-minded people with like-minded humor. To each their own, you know? Honestly? Some producers really need to be more discerning in what they give the green light to.
*And can I just say as a random aside: I hate that this site’s app has issues with paragraphs and typing correctly in general. The number of times I have to edit because the app chose to type whatever it wanted and spell words how it liked is enough to shave at least a few minutes off of my life.
I just realized this director did A Time of Fever, Kissable Lips, and The Director Who Buys Me Dinner- all shows I actually enjoyed. (I also enjoyed Love Tractor, but that’s more of a typical KBL.) Especially A Time of Fever. I wouldn’t have worried had I known. Though some tropes persist, this director will make me feel all kinds of emotions before he’s done with me. Episode 4’s kiss alone was what I would have expected had I known who directed it.
Then again, almost all of the KBLs he’s directed have a not-so-satisfying ending (AToF, Kissable Lips…DWBMD is iffy) imo so… We shall see. I’m in the process of reading the webtoon right now. Either way, I’m 100% invested in this show.
That's entirely fair. I mean, IKEA might be cheap, but it is popular for a reason. And it's not for nothing that…
I would argue that you can, in fact, do both. However, the latter discussion is just low in productivity value, as it is highly likely that none of us are producers, directors, actors, or anyone involved in the production process of these trope-heavy BLs, thereby rendering our discussions on the whys and possible future improvements of said tropes moot in that regard.
I will therefore take the liberty of continuing to humorously point out the tropes and shortcomings of series while sharing my thoughts with like-minded individuals, as that’s what these largely anonymous rating and reviewing sites are for. I enjoy humor. It makes this long and stressful life markedly more enjoyable.
That's entirely fair. I mean, IKEA might be cheap, but it is popular for a reason. And it's not for nothing that…
Making fun of BLs is totally fine because the tropes are so REAL!
In LFLS, the ML uses the word “gay for himself when standing up to a classmate who was bullying a gay classmate (who is also an openly gay actor/idol). But you’re right that this is a rare thing. It shouldn’t be though.
Thank you for doing god's work! I couldn't bring myself to watch it, but glad to have my suspicions confirmed!
I watched Heart Stain (I’ll watch any KBL that airs). It was okay. I really only watched it because the “bottom” ML was just my slice of sassy confidence I applaud. He cried pretty too. (I know, base of me but nevertheless the truth in my opinion.) It ended better than it started, if that says anything about it. Not really a “rewatchable” though.
So far, I really enjoy KBLs and their assembly-line predictability. They’re like when I go visit my aunties and they made a spread of fried chicken and mac and cheese for me with some greens for fun. It’s comforting after the crazy that we get often with Thai BLs. I admit to also loving the super cute-ified and overly youthful JBLs. I haven’t met one I didn’t like. Same for KBLs (the 🇹🇭-🇰🇷 mixes are another story altogether). Sometimes the simple predictability of the series helps me unwind from reality for 30 minutes or so.
The greenest green flag that ever flew! Definitely evident that Su Hyeon is being manipulated by Jae Min. His restraint is obvious with Da-On. He uses Da On’s fear to keep himself in check. After episode 3, it’s easy to see that he would never really hurt him on purpose and that his frustration on having to keep his feelings bottled up are slowly boiling over in how he’s reacting now. Bro is down bad for Da-On. I don’t really see how Jae Min is down bad for him though. It just looks like he wants to keep everyone away. He clearly knows he has the upper hand with Da-On’s feelings. So what keeps him from shooting his shot? An agreement with the person Da-On somehow now fears and dislikes?
And while we clearly know Seong Hyeon is endgame (if he isn’t, I’m gonna drop my rating significantly because wtf), I’m looking forward to seeing it played out on screen.
The ill-fitting office garb for the submissive role always gets me. Like they lack the budget for clothes that fit. Just let the actor wear his own clothes at this point because the stylist is clearly new and blind with no touch receptors in their fingers.
No kisses yet, so there’s still hope. Just kidding. We anticipate the first one will be the classic dead fish lip meet. Like they don’t consider that who healthy young males who like each other wouldn’t go straight to business with hungry tongues and teeth. Must always keep it demure and mindful. Though the last scene in LFLS looked way more natural for teen boys, unfortunately this is an exception and not the rule. However, as I write this, I remember that The Eighth Sense and Love Class 2 (2 of the three couples have realistic first kisses). My Dating Sim had a more realistic reunion kiss scene (though he’s drunk), Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo, and the small production Sukfilm BLs have some realistic kiss scenes. I think there are more but these are what I remember off the top of my head.
OMG Yes! I was coming here to leave my feedback and I found you here too so I have to comment 😂. The ending…
😉 I’m off to sleep. It’s been an enjoyable chat across series threads 😊 If you haven’t, you should join me in watching Secret Relationships (Korean bl with some tasty drama so far. 2 eps in with ep3 releasing tomorrow). Leads are better at expressing their emotions. It has to be better than Impression of Youth and Eccentric Romance. Definitely better so far than Sangmin Danneaw at this point. (Just say no to 🇹🇭 🇰🇷 collabs).
OMG Yes! I was coming here to leave my feedback and I found you here too so I have to comment 😂. The ending…
Psst…winter is coming ;) 🥶 🧊 🐉 🔥 👫🗡️Maybe I should start learning Canasta and dust off my trolls for the bingo hall…or at least buy some in reluctant anticipation (if that’s even a thing).
I was born in November so autumn is my preference too. Scorpio ♏️life.
currently watching this and tbh i think its a hard watch for me but not bc of the characters i think its bc the…
I finished it because Yjomas is pretty. That’s really it. I wasn’t a huge fan of Kong’s character or his Brady Bunch (dating myself here) family. But it’s cheesy and really made for a much younger audience than myself imo.

The sun has been in my rearview for many years now. My body reminds me daily. despite my protests. I’m in the early autumn, so to speak. I’m wistfully looking back though, which makes me want to be generous. I should probably focus on the road ahead before I join these train wrecks with a wreck of my own while waxing nostalgic about my summer days. 😊

I think I AM too generous. I kept moving that slider back and forth from 3 to 6. I guess I didn’t want to hurt the actors’ feelings because the script isn’t their fault. (The acting is though). More of my precious fleeting youth was left far behind watching this series.
Avoid it like an introvert avoiding small talk at a party by avoiding the party. Like how I buy online to avoid the inane checkout conversations.
Thank you for the nice comment. But tell me, was Sangmin Dinneaw as awful as people say?
🤣🤣🤣 It’s the character’s name. But she acts like a pony on crack so…
You’re so right about Impression on Youth. The paint project in my walls was more thrilling than that series, especially the ending. Another slow motion 🚊 wreck.
WTF was that? Why bother? I don’t know why I was expecting more. Took my 7 down to a 6 because of my disappointment with the lackluster ending.
Can I ask because it’s been bothering me from episode 1? Did anyone else get the impression that the smile was fake/forced for Luhui? It threw me off every time. Is it just me? Am I the problem here?

The ending was disappointing to say the very least, but your comment was way more eloquent. Mine: “WTF was that?” and “Why bother?” I don’t know why I was expecting more. Took my 7 down to a 6 because of my disappointment.

My comment after watching the whole series of Sangmin Dinneaw:
“It’s only slightly better than Love is Like a Cat imo (which I did not finish- quit partway through episode 1). Petch is the only thing good about this series and that awkward and unnecessary solo pillow scene wasn’t enough to redeem it. Just a show about an empty-headed adult with almost comically evil parents and a bunch of horny teens playing at adulthood. Oh, and the ridiculous Pony who somehow manages to save the day? Because that makes sense. I felt like I needed to be high to enjoy this show. Maybe it would have helped. Unfortunately, I was sober so had to skip through the vast majority of it. Why didn’t I just drop it? Well, it’s like watching a train wreck.”
