This might not teach BL fans anything they didn't know before, but it does well in pointing out issues again and as long as "Boy loves boy" is treated as abnormal/disgusting compared to "Boy loves girl" we can't have enough documentaries like this in my opinion.
This article deserves a part 2 because there are so many other great short K-Dramas. ^.^ Personally I loved The Boy Next Door, it was really hilarious and perfect to watch in one go.
totally agree! The issues they tackled were serious..incl. bullying but the treatment of them were not explored…
Haha I guess I'm just too old and not the right target audience. A fluffy rom-com would be fine for me but I'd like it to include common sense for the characters and logic. When it comes with character growth I'm happy. When I saw the FL haven't changed by episode 12 I gave up. The logic in this drama was covered under the make-up too. xD Oh and don't get me started on her mom. That fury was busy being self-centered and complaining nonstop, she had no idea what's even going on with her daughter. At some point I just muted her whenever she appeared on screen.

I agree with what you say too. The issues were really not "skin-deep" but quite severe and when the drama goes as far as show she considers committing suicide they should've made a statement worth the severity, yet the message was that her life turned to the better just because she uses make-up now. Not to mention that her skin problems can't be solved with make-up alone and even when you use make-up to cover it wouldn't look as perfect as in the drama. So even there it lacks accuracy. This drama is a rom-com, aiming for teenagers as their audience yet the message of the drama is highly questionable in my opinion.
I like Jackie Chan and his movies but this one can't be watched unless you turn your brain off because after 30 minutes I've already seen so much nonsense that it hurts. Reviving people with a car battery, someone with a broken skull is transported on a motorcycle and people shake him, probably more as the movie goes on but I dropped.
I feel the same way, but I love the actresses Choi Ri and Hong Ji Yoon from other dramas already and feel also…
Haha yeah four months. I just recently got to watch the drama because I was looking which drama is in the middle position of my watchlist (it's a challenge in the MDL Watch Challenge) and it was My First First Love. xD Not sure about your preferences but when you enjoy friendship dramas you might like it. :)

Did you watch it? I just did and actually ended up liking it. My favorites (Jung Jin Young as well) didn't disappoint and it was a nice watch. I would say it's worth a watch.
If yall don't wanna watch it bc of jisoo and need time to process she whole situation:1. I know its hard to watch…
Totally agree with what you say and just finished the drama. I watched for three people in the cast (Choi Ri, Jung Jin Young and Hong Ji Yoon) and ended up loving the drama for the great friendship vibes, the humor and overall positivity in it. Watching the drama does not mean one supports Jisoo or what he did but like you say, there are others who worked hard for this drama too and not watching the drama will also hurt those who did nothing wrong.
Congrats on your first article and wow what a topic you choose for your article. Really interesting and indeed true that the depiction of real life issues often are inaccurate. Totally agree with what you wrote about True Beauty. Like you I had similar expectations for this drama and they were all crushed. For me the depiction of real life issues such as bullying, self-acceptance/self-love and suicide attempt was horrible because they treated them so lightheartedly when in real life some teenagers commit suicide because they were bullied. Yet in the drama it hadn't been addressed again that she stood on the roof of a building and about to make the final step. Someone who considers ending their own life needs help, not make-up. This drama had the chance to actually be a guidance for teenagers who suffer from bullying yet the messages of the drama are questionable and the FL shouldn't be taken as a role model because she didn't build up any self-esteem and lived a life under her make-up disguise (I dropped at ep 12 so if she magically changed from a wall flower to a strong girl I missed that but wouldn't have bought it anyway in just 4 episodes if there had been no progress in the 12 episodes before).
Yes, Tian Wen 天问 is such a grand song, perfect to open a drama! If not already known Yu Ning's name, definitely…
I love when a singer can put the emotions into a song and make the listener feel them and the mood of the song despite not understanding the actual lyrics because they are in a foreign language. Yu Ning really can do that.
The first time I really noticed him by name was while listening to the Word of Honor OST and that's also where I noticed his amazing vocals. It's always a pleasure to encounter great artists in singing and acting. When they come with such a humble and kind personality it's a real joy. <3
Thanks for this interesting article, Brownie. Just like you I have some triggers and mostly try to avoid them but when there's something about the drama that picks my interest or I have another reason then I'm willing to step out of my comfort zone and try it. A good example is Reunion: The Sound of the Providence because it's from the genre Horror and unlike fans of this genre I don't feel euphoric about being scared by a drama/movie. While I'm 100% sure I'll never become a fan of the genre, the drama was a real nice watch which I actually enjoyed so it's indeed good to watch things outside your comfort zone once in a while. PS.: Thanks for introducing me to "Duang Jai Nai Montra". I just added it to my watchlist. ^^
Thanks for writing an article about this amazing artist. I discovered Gaho through the OST of The Last Empress and was impressed with his voice. I really love his songs and my favorite cover is Dusk Till Dawn. I liked the song before but he made it perfect.
