It's not that they aren't allowed but the political differences of China and South Korea have led to the so called "Hallyu ban" (please google this term for further information) in the past, meaning lots of Chinese titles that have been produced with South Korean cast members were shelved and not released. Some of them have been released later but that was pretty much happening randomly. So while I'm not aware of any official rule that forbids a Chinese production with South Korean cast members the politic still play a big role, especially in China as the non-democratic government dictates what's 'okay' and what not.

I can relate to that. As you know, I watch some dramas based on their poster, which is not an experiment like yours but comes with interesting results as well. I definitely think it's worth it to leave the main path to try out new things here and there. 😊

Thank you for this interesting article. I'm not caring much about ratings though I do look at them and take them into my decision process whether to watch or not to watch a drama. In the end, they are not that important though, especially since ratings always change and some users upvote or downvote a drama with ratings. I care most about an intriguing story, good written script and acting. Personally, I have not watched any title that is rated below 6 but some with a rating of 6 and my experience with them is mixed. The majority was really not good imo, but I did enjoy a few and rated them higher.

I totally understand your approach and most of the time I also follow certain steps by choosing my dramas. For most I check at least the synopsis, for others genre and cast if I'm really unsure. As you can see we had our failures with this "blind date" tactic, but would I do it again? Yes, because it was fun. 😂 But I absolutely do understand that it's a question of preference and if you are willing to take that risk. 😊
