I have caught up till ep 4. Who is the writer? Its so trite.I like Choi Jin Hyuk so do or die will watch this…
They wrote the ML as too much of a block of ice eps 1-4. It might've worked for his non romance drama like Numbers, because it's NOT a romance, but here it was just annoying. It wasn't particularly interesting to watch CJH just π the first 4 eps. π€¦ββοΈ I couldn't even defend his acting those eps when others called his acting lame, when his character writing was so bad.
I do think the writing overall is good in that it has good pacing and not boring the viewers. But now that cold ceo has melted ,I expect writing for ep 5-12 must also improve.
.... Also, How are they going to inlcude all the cute kiss kiss and culding (lots of that in webtoon, even kiss and cuddles in bed), when they WASTED so many eps ML being cold and buildup of couple too slow? Did they forget this is not a 16 ep drama where buildup can be slow?? We are nearly at midway point, middle airs this weekendn and preview showed couple just starting to crush on each other....Too slow for the super cuddly webtoon couple?? They had a whole a** one night stand, yet are this shy about just standing close or holding hands? lol no logic. 2nd half better be filled with sweetness and kiss kiss to compensate for the 1st half, or I'll be mad!
I think the COLD CEO archetype should've stayed in 2016. It's not working here, and was just frustrating to watch?!!
So far I like this more than Dynamite Kiss which slowly fell apart after ep2. BUT DK did write the ML as WARM towards FL already since ep1, which is what PY SHOULD'VE DONE. Oh well.
The COLD ML might worked in past with 16 eps, sometimes they even had 20 eps...
But with Kdramas being much shorter 12 ep these days... It just takes away from the couple's cuteness in earlier eps. Less time for cuteness!
...why WASTE starter eps with ML just being like π ...sorry is that supposed to be interesting to watch?! IT'S NOT. It simply ISN'T.
Anyway luckily at end of ep4 he's now dropping his Cold Walls .. Other than that it's a solid watch (makes one root for the couple, curious how they'll solve their trauma/backstories, the people at the office are interesting enough sidecharacters, story pacing is good etc.). 8.5/10 so far.
What are you on about?!?. This is clearly for global audience.
Ratings are low on Channel A (it's small cable) so not many koreans watching, while it has been #1 on Viki for a week now, with subtitles made for a whole 11 different languages (targeted for global appeal). The investors get their money back through global viewers, not some limited niche channel like Channel A. It's simulcast in Japanese TV channel, and has become #1 most watched in Japan. Japan, not south korea. It's doing really well in Taiwan too. So many spanish languge comments about it online, total hit in Latin-america and within the niche kdrama fandom in Europe....
The moral dilemma is more for koreans, who would find pregnancy without marriage problematic....
None of the stats, nor cultural facts support you delulu claims?!? Neither is it how basic business works lol
I havenβt watched this drama yet but literally every recent Kdrama male lead has had a girlfriend or past crush.…
Ignore mooc, that user is a manchild virgin who's traumatized by women so much as looking at just 1 other man before ever dating him or another guy. (spoilers: every woman will continue to stay away from him π )
Literary ANYTHING That user has been commenting about on this site, is an obsession with women needing to be virgins.
He's like a reverse Robin Hood. Steal from others, leave them starving on the street, just because of his greed. A multi-millionaire like him can afford to pay his taxes. This is pure greed.
It's not an Ungrounded Rumor, when the person themselves ADMIT to it lol π π€¦ββοΈ
I have 140 verbal IQ and a writing degree.
No, I'm not randomly bragging (in fact I actively avoid mentioning these two things about myself because I don't like people who brag. I made an exception here, because the situation warranted a mention. Even when I find it cringy to mention.)
This is my roundabout way to say, that indeed he does admit to it in his letter. He calls it a "misunderstanding" to soften the action. Doesn't mean he didn't do it. If you read the meaning behind the whole sentence, and not just the sentence literary, you can deduce this. He then apologizes.
....Don't worry though, as his fan, YOU DON'T NEED TO DEFEND HIM.
He is a MAN. K ent always forgives them and takes them back. Especially extremely popular ones like him.
I'm saying you're wasting your time and energy defending him. You can JUST wait for his military return, as there will not be any consequences for his actions anyway. This is very unlikely to be anything other than temporary shade some knetz throw at him, but then forget soon.π€·ββοΈ
The ML is not new... He was the ML in Tunnel, he was in The heirs, He was also in Gu family book (Kang chi father),…
"I think ML here is make-believe clearly pretending. He is not a cold CEO; he is pretending to be one. There is a huge difference."
>>>>
I'm pretty sure the actor is an ENFP or ESFP irl (playful friendly flirty very emotionally expressive type)...and the role total total opposite of him an ISTJ (Cold robotic unemotional type).... This character really not playing to his strengths at allπ
You may change your mind once the character aligns more with warm traits/melted CEO in love. In Devilish Joy he WAS the character no "acting visible" like you said you saw here.
We don't know yet, since it's still the early eps basically requiring coldness, which is the big weakness of this actor.
He's really good in action and emotionally intense roles. Man is really expressive type with hyper emotional eyes telling a million stories. So far, his character didn't allow it at all, only flatness allowed, which is unnatural for him.
FYI, IF he somehow continues to not convince once the character cracks open his walls, I'll even join you to complain about his acting. But knowing this actor in other roles, it's unlikely to happen. But let's see.
ALSO: "he is a modern chef in daily First Man and there too he keeps a poker face non stop. " >>> he is NOT in that drama lol. I think you are confusing him with someone else who looks like him.
...UNDERACTING is NOT a Trait of this actor. From this comment ALONE, where you confused him with Another actor lol (well it can happen, some actors do look alike, to be fair), now i know you got him confused with his Cold Role. ANY OTHER role he's expressive. I can only hope the WRITING ALLOWS it, later on in PY. Like I said, it was big a mistake to write him this cold. With THIS actor especially, he should've just been written as warm CEO type right away, which suits his acting.
I too am an art nerd. The writer kind. And alot of the time there's a MASSIVE problem of drama Screenwriters not getting enough hate for WRITING of characters, or for stupid writing choices overall, instead actors get the hate. When in the first place, the writer messed up in the writing of the character. Can we normalize hating on writers more lol. How are they ever supposed to improve their writing if they don't get blamed lol. Same issue with the director who too is responsible for acting too, not just the actors. People forget the invisible CREATORS behind it all, just because they cannot be seen like the actors.
I like PY writing overall so far (I rate ep 1-2 9/10), but the cold archetype is a characterization that should've died in 2016. Even while the other 2016 nostalgia tropes are very lovely imo, Cold CEO ML is NOT one of those which should've been revived. π π€¦ββοΈ ESPECIALLY not with an emotionally expressive actor who DOESN'T and SHOULDN'T do Cold Characters lol. I forgave it only because it's the very start of the drama, but yeah, it definitely removed 1 point from my rating so far). If they continue to write him too cold, my rating will go down.
This ML is VERY attractive, and I'm usually NOT Drawn to chinese actors (I tend to find korean and japanese men much more attractive).
And now he's doing this cdrama as well as that 90s cdrama. I'm excited to watch him in both, and I've only seen the trailers..he is THAT charismatic! ππ
The ML is not new... He was the ML in Tunnel, he was in The heirs, He was also in Gu family book (Kang chi father),…
Ok thanks for your Detailed reply. π Too many biased haters that just mad about webtoon changes to know which is True cristisim vs which is just bias. You seem the actual critical watcher type and not just among biased ones.
I too am not convinved by his acting at Starter eps to be honest, but I think it has to do with the Cold Ceo on the start, since in other roles his range more visible and right away.
I don't really agree with your full list, though some i agree like Idol I male lead and JiSung are always fantastic actors.
And like you said GOOD SCRIPT plays a role too. Some actors are simply held back by script or directing, some actors get applauded for landing a fancy good script that's easy to get praised for. π There have been many actors who i flat out HATED in one role, but then I realized they CAN act, once i saw them in different role lol.
So far, the male lead of PY has been written too cold for my liking. But then i haven't had the chance to catch up beyond ep2 yet (i'm currently busy travelling, only time to make quick comments, no time to watch whole eps). Given how these Cold Ceo roles TEND to go.... The actor only gets a chance to shine since mid part onwards usually, once Cold Ceo looses hid cold guard.
People new to the lead actors, here are other good projects to watch them in, Starting from best listed first:
OH YEON SEO: - Mad For Each Other (psychological healing romance, disguised a Romcom on the surface, but is far more. Critically Acclaimed script.) - Please Come Back Mister (funny has hell! A dramedy with death and rebirth theme) - Come Jang Bo Ri (legendary 40% rating scoring old drama! Despite her character limited in being VERY naive, OYS still shines and makes character likeable. Same writer as Penthouse 1-3 !) - My Sassy Girl (Fusion Historical Romcom. Watch if you like sassy, troublemaker, Wild ENFPs essentric female lead characters.) (- A Korean Odyssey: extremely divisive. People love or hate it too much to give recommendation, depends on the person if they'll like this.)
CHOI JIN HYUK: - Devilish Joy (his charm really shines here! Psychological healing Romance, with beautiful travel athmospheres) - The Last Empress (makjang though! Not for everybody, very melodramatic lol. Also very bad ending. Still recommended. Great acting by him and all of cast. Same writer as Penthouse 1-3 !) - Zombie Detective (he & his character carries drama! lame FL) - Emergency Couple (Very entertaining fun romcom in hospital setting. Not his or anyon's best acting but a very fun solid watch. Young and handsome CJH!) - Miss Night And Day (Good as a kdrama, but I don't think he really shines here, his other characters in the other dramas i mention are more interesting!) - Tunnel (acting and charm! Nice time travel detective drama)
It might've worked for his non romance drama like Numbers, because it's NOT a romance,
but here it was just annoying.

I remember when i first got into kdrama in like 2014/2015, it was never this bad...
I miss having healthy discussions lol π

THIS.
Global fans got mad that koreans, whose life where affected by this Spoiled Brat's actions, are angry with him.
For once, I agree with koreans.
This is not a case of their usual injustified rage over nothing.
A multi-millionaire like him can afford to pay his taxes. This is pure greed.
