I just don’t understand the case of this drama.. I hear good things about this drama, but still the rating makes…
Its ratings elsewhere are higher: Viki 9.2, iQiyi 9.7, weibo 8.8 (according to a comment I saw earlier). Doubon rating isn't released yet.
Surprisingly I really like it so far. I'm generally not really interested in this genre and only started watching for Xu Kai, but even his relative lack of screen time hasn't prevented me from enjoying this so far!
All in all, it's up to you. I would just recommend knowing what you're getting into - read the synopsis. If controlling parents, focus on family conflict and healing, and slow burn/back burner romance isn't your thing, then this drama likely isn't your cup of tea.

Honestly the attitude lately has been shifting more to preachy “My Western views are superior” vibes and I’m not here for it. If we’re going to consume Asian entertainment, we should at least do the bare minimum and respect/understand the culture. But I guess that’s asking too much 🤷🏼♀️
Hard to watch the first few episodes with the unbearable mother. Writers should sit back and watch to see how…
This is a Chinese drama written, produced, and targeted to a Chinese audience. There has been little if any of the whining and complaining about the mother by Chinese audience/C-netz. They find her relatable and a realistic portrayal of a certain parenting style. The writers are not pandering to international viewers at all - that's not what this drama is about. If not for YZ and XK, this likely wouldn't be on many international watchers' radar.
Woah so many comments I can't keep up with this many😭
Right? I'm very busy at work this week, so have no time to check my instagram let alone mdl comments at work, so I get home to a deluge of stuff to sift through XD
Wow that Zhang woman is just scary. I don’t think she cares for anything except money and power. Poor grandma!…
You could tell that YZM was not amused to find her there, basically harassing his grandma. Zhang is definitely cold-blooded, but I think she appears more vicious now because we've seen a change in YZM. At first they were the same level of coldness and ruthlessness, but YZM has slowly warmed up so seeing them side by side after 18 episodes, you can really see the difference (in my opinion at least)
I think she's going to do some bad things in the future - and hopefully one of them is the straw that finally makes YZM chose family over business and he leaves Yueda
Oh i get why she gave hotel to MCH. She told YZM she had looked over the proposal and she was okay with it except…
*Spoilers from teasers fyi*
See, MCH is good at a lot of things and has worked in a hotel for years . . . but she's never been upper management. She's been part of the cogs in the machine of management, but that's hella different than being the final say so on everything: payroll, SOPs, vendor/supplier contracts, hiring plans, marketing, upkeep, etc
So I think knowing her, she's going to go full throttle in as "I can do this alone. I don't need help. It'll be fine" and then fairly soon realize she is in waaaay over her head - especially since it seems the hotel was already having issues before grandma died. One of her last conversations with grandma was all about knowing and learning how to ask for and accept help when it's needed. Being independent and self-sufficient is great - up to a point. Not many people can run a large hotel alone, especially with no real management experience.
I think that's where YZM may come in - he DOES have experience managing large, luxury hotels, and he's really good at it. Grandma likely gave the villa to YZM to force him to continue interacting with the Mai family in some way. She already promised them to let them stay while their house is remodeled, so she knows he wouldn't kick them out (especially since the villa wasn't his goal to begin with).
So I think they'll learn from each other - MCH will learn to accept and seek help from others when it's needed, and YZM will learn that he can trust others and that he can want companionship and be wanted in return.
"When YZM watched MCH choose a cheongsam for his grandmother, he realized that he didn't know his grandmother…
That scene made me really sad - his expression was such a mix of sadness and jealousy. Sadness that he realizes he doesn't know his grandma very well. And jealousy over the relationship MCH and his grandma have, a bond he has never (and will never) know T___T
Okay, I'm baffled, b/c it seems like there's a lot of talk about MCH does this, Gramma does that, and so on, but…
I'm assuming people are discussing the trailers - I haven't watched the newest ones yet - but I do try to put stuff under a spoiler tag if I mention anything from a trailer - not everyone here is doing that though
I want him to do more drama like Best Choice Ever. It broke 30k heat index; so he has to dance now.
I do hope he’ll start doing more modern dramas now. I love costume/wuxia/xianxia but I know those productions are quite arduous for multiple reasons . . . And I want detective XK. Looks like we’ll get firefighter next, which is a good sub for now!
I also wouldn’t mind him doing another Republican era drama. Even if it’s propaganda heavy, I’ll sit through that for XK lol
I don't think I would call the FL's personality stupid, more like responsible and don't want to trouble others.
In China, there is a law that states a nonrelative can consent to emergency/life-saving medical treatment in the event a family member is not present. It also protects them from punishment if the person dies She had no real reason NOT to sign except maybe stay out of Xin family drama. But that would be a sh*tty reason not to. The man may be an a** but he don’t deserve to die
Haha me too, but it also depends on where you live. I've heard Shanghai is incredibly expensive, so $10K may be the equivalent of only a couple thousand in a less expensive area
she already had in her mind who will get who, she gave house and garden property to ML and another house and Xiang'Li…
I think Yueda group is a corporation, so the founding family (whoever they are) likely own majority shares with other shareholders making up the rest. Sounds like they are a hotel/resort management company (I'm assuming like Hilton)
How come xu kai get very little screen time. Even FLs father brother get more screen time.
This is foremost a family drama focused around MCH, particularly her relationship with her mother. Xu Kai will likely get more screen time once he starts interacting more/becomes part of the the Mai family, which based on previews will likely be very soon.
Surprisingly I really like it so far. I'm generally not really interested in this genre and only started watching for Xu Kai, but even his relative lack of screen time hasn't prevented me from enjoying this so far!

I was going to try to watch the episode before work tomorrow . . . but I don't think I should T_T

I actually really want to try those wine cooler things - Rio I think? But I can't find them in any of the Asian markets around me
Grandma privately owns Xiganli.
