Wish they had like an episode guide. Would make for easier viewing. I know that it will also be on Youku, IQiY,…
An episode guide might come in handy, .
While it's being mentioned that MangoTV, iQiyi, Tencent and Youku will air this series, I just came from double-checking on their respective international apps and I didn't see any announcement so far. So I wonder if it's only available on native app/website... I don't think Viki picked it up as of yet either ...
Just watch the first few episode.... does it sounds like the sequel of Heavenly sword and dragon sabre or am I…
Both novels were written by different authors. Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre was by Jin Yong in 1961. Whereas, this drama was based on a novel written by Liang Yusheng which got published in 1980.
Both novels follow the typical wuxia story, so It's normal to feel similitude between the two. Zhang Wuji also has the same background as Geng Yu Jing, with both parents being killed/dead/committed suicide ...
I'm the opposite. I didn't like ep 3 & 4 because I felt like they were choppily edited. The subpar subbing also…
ahh did you mean 13-14? because 3-4 were last week LOL and even if I didn't like much YuJing daddy's character, I still thought his parent's scenes were well filmed with the natural scenery and all. I found them lovable together.
Ahh meaning the English subs? I haven't seen the latest episodes with English subtitles so I don't know how badly written they are. Then again I don't have much expectations about it either. I seldom encounter satisfying subs anyway. I got used to it already.
" so I need to mentally prepare for their bond to be broken"
I didn't enjoy episodes 13-14 as much as per the usual. Was a bit of a letdown. Hopefully, 15 onward will resume being back on the awesome track.
- we didn't get to see a battle royale between Wudang against Mou Clan. I would have liked Wudang to go all out before submitting or at least to show more resistance somehow. - gege fiance's fighting scenes and her "love" storyline didn't really appeal to me. Maybe she will become a better villain? as the story progresses.
+ Qiao Er and Yu Jing's interaction are endearing to me. I love seeing the two of them onscreen. + Brothership between FL gege and Yu Jing. Hopefully, there will be no story of betrayal in the future + Mustache Mou falling asleep on the roof and missing his target. That was unexpected.
and LOL, Yu Jing and Qiao Er both shown leg skin, after falling from the cliff. Was that supposed to be fanservice? hahaha
Lol seeing his current hairdo reminds me of my own bed head. Most morning is a battle.Back on topic, it's the…
Agree with you on your second sentence.
I'm currently following another drama and I'm painfully "waiting" for the character to upgrade. Let just say that because of that character's hasty decision, two characters got killed off as a result. They might be cannon fodder to the story. I still don't enjoy seeing characters being off just so the protagonist can "use" them as a stepping stone to becoming "better". While I do understand the direction the writer intends to take the audience to, I still didn't like it. Seemingly my issue is with how the drama handled those two specific deaths, how it was executed, the timing of their death. Besides, there was already a precedent anyway. I just felt those two deaths were superfluous to the flow of the story.
So, for different characters, I surely want to smack them just so they don't cause unnecessary loss of life for plot sake. But I like the overall production, the casting, the others character's development, the OST, ... I know that specific character will probably become more likable to me in a couple of episodes so I am closing one eye and open the other in the meantime.
Moreover, Yu Jing here didn't yet cause any death per see ( unless we add the case of the red pill... but I think the pills will get switched anyway by the masked man. And the Wudang leader has to go away, in one way or another, for the story to move forward. ) So as sad as it was, his death was required and justified. I feel that somehow I am giving Yu Jing a pass.
I do have my own set of biases LOL. I'm no saint.
Not sure if I'm making any sense here, it's rather late on my end.
Yeah, he was annoying in the first few episodes, and IMO he's got a little too much leniency for a martial student.…
For me, I felt the sprouting in the latest episode 12. Following his talk with his gege. He went berserk when he learned from Qiao Er what happened while he was away. His Fang Liang gege knocked some sense into him. Lol his ge even mentioned that Qiao Er liked him. Good bro talks during episode 11, by memory...
I have to assume he will get better but as of episode 6 I'm developing a growing urge to punch protagonist-kun…
Lol seeing his current hairdo reminds me of my own bed head. Most morning is a battle.
Back on topic, it's the typical brat to heroe trope. Story was written back in 1980. Somehow though, I can tolerate his personality. ( unlike similar characters from other dramas, I would roll my eyes and wait out until they "mature" up. ) Maybe because we can see how everyone simply dote on him. He is the fruit of his upbringing. Young, playful, naughty and loved by most.
Or maybe because he is not even being tought correct sword moves by his godfather, whom he obviously loves. Being lied to and also nearly being killed by him. Maybe there's the pitiful factor added into play as well.
Nonetheless, I use the same criteria standard to evaluate my "villains" as well. As long as it is coherent with the story, I will stomach it. I much prefer this type over the gary sue or green tea for exemple...
I like that most characters arent all black and all white. It makes them more interesting.
Don't know. 17 users voted. And to be honest, I never considered the rating to be a reflection of work quality.I…
yeah, I do get your feelings.
When we would see something for which we enjoyed, we do want it to get the recognition it deserves. But the things are, human are naturally with bias and opinions are subjectifs.
Some might actually even rate high/low before even seeing the actual drama. Some would rate a drama low, because there are no subtitle ... so many possibilities, ...
And if a potential viewer stay away from this drama because of its currently low rating, ... making a judgement before actually seeing it. Should we actually feel bad for them? It's their miss, resulting from their own choice.
I think the dao philosophy from this drama has started to influence me a bit.
We cannot really prevent the score from fluctuating but we surely can spread good words about this drama. I believe this to be a more productive way to "counter" the bad rating.
And I am camping for episode 11... someone is heading toward Shaolin temple!
What's up with the sudden plunge in rating? Massive downvoting?
Don't know. 17 users voted.
And to be honest, I never considered the rating to be a reflection of work quality. I enjoy the drama and so seems other 486 users on MDL, 12460 on Weibo, ...
Got some issue with the waste of foods and the harm to animals. ( Then again, I do see that even in currently aired Cdramas. )
The fighting scenes are mostly entertaining. That was just one scene for which I rolled my eyes but the rest are fine. ( with Dong Fang Liang )
Chai Biyun as Qiao Er is adorable as ever. Might be my most favourite character of hers so far.
Wei Li Si is handsome but I can barely stand Geng Jing Shi's character. As a dad, as a husband and as a disciple, ... I'll just stop it here ...
For the rest of the cast, I'll leave it for another time.
Many characters appear then get killed off after a couple of scenes/episodes. LOL to that.
Props, outfits, lighting, scenery are compatible as an ensemble. I would prefer a more refined hairdo and clothing for most characters .. but I think it will get better later on into the drama.
Some do comment about how the drama looks outdated or old-school. Personally, I prefer it that way. Many more recent Cdramas don't even have that level of aesthetic ...
While I haven't completed any of Liang Yusheng's novels, ( style of writing-wise, I am more of a Gu Long fan), I saw quite a bit of its novels adaptations to dramas and to movies. So, It does ties together.
