Don't let the low rating and reviews stop you. It's mostly fans of the source material who are unhappy about the adaptation (as they have a right to be). As a standalone it's not half bad.
This was a lot of fun to watch and quite entertaining. I don't have the burden of knowledge viz the original source material so I went in with zero expectations. Apocalyptic plots are nothing new but as a reader myself, the idea of going into a world where you have an omniscient pov was fascinating. The character development and the CGI could have been better but the nearly two hours flew by. Would definitely watch another instalment with the same actors if it happens.
Quite the ride from start the finish. Love me a woman doing the wrongs. I wasn't particularly curious about the final boss because it always comes down to people with money and power wanting more money and power. That's why the world is where it is today. The world is being run by rent seekers and it's not just America that's fucked.
ps: the most unbelievable part was a woman still being able to run for president after being outed for having sexual desires. That's an unforgivable offense.
Loving the second couple so much. Their fights and eventually falling in love? *chef's kiss* Such a healthy relationship.
The best part of this show is that there is no angst. They're dragging the male lead's first love confusion on for too long but it's an otherwise enjoyable story. Even though the FL is quite annoying at the start.
As for the third couple, ffw all the way. I have zero interest in them.
I think Namping did pretty well for a character who doesn’t have much more to him than being cursed. I don’t…
That actually makes sense. It's a little hard to develop a character based off an source material that doesn't give much to work with.
They're both pretty tall. I find the need in BLs for the seme to be taller redundant. In this drama especially with how strong/overpowering Paran's presence is.
Hit this out of the park. The special episodes somehow managed to be better the the actual drama. I liked that they kept a bit of the red flag behaviour (the friend tailing Jun) so it doesn't feel like a totally different character with the cuteness overload.
If I have to read a novel to get the full picture of a character in the drama adaptation, then the drama isn't doing a good enough job. The oversized defense of Nanping's acting in this drama tells you see the gaps as well. Personally, I understand that acting ability exists on a spectrum, and various factors can influence whether that ability translates into a great or mediocre performance. It's why you won't find me call someone a bad actor (except that one Korean actor). But I will criticise aspects of the performance I find clunky. If you choose to jump down my throat heedlessly or use fighting words, anything you see, take it like that.
That said, what's the height difference between Keng and Namping? In some scenes they seem to be the same height. Then Keng looks much taller. Then Namping looks a little taller.
Hua Young is the most interesting character I have seen in a BL in a minute. And the actor is doing him justice. I've stuck with this just to see what new craziness he's capable of and he has not disappointed.
Dudes, that was not some virginal fucking last episode but let's not dwell on the past. Jet and Charn are so cute.
The siblings are top characters. Know how to go after what they want. Know how to accept rejection and keep it moving.
I am not enamoured with Namping's acting but he has this fragile beauty that a character like Paran would be immediately attracted to so the casting makes sense even though the acting confuses me a little. Is he doing that with his face cos he can't emote properly or because the director called for it? (This is not permission for anyone who doesn't like Nanping's acting to shit on it. I was very careful with how I phrased bit for a reason.)
I was curious how they would handle the NC scene between the mc but I have only one note. Open your mouth a little more Khem else that man will suck the lips off your face. The camera could have panned downwards so we get a peek of what they were both looking at but I guess this isn't that kind film. I tried to be respectful and not let my imagination fill in any gaps. Although I imagine Khem took one look and was like no fucking way I'm taking that today. (Did they really sleep on top of all that ahem?)
Sated Paran is too sexy for words. Has me thirsting over a 26/7/8yo fictional character. I am too old for this for goodness sakes. -_-
Venting students = it's a japanese cultural thing that when you're experiencing deep and conflicting emotions…
I hold space for mental conditions but I default more to parents being that way because they're assholes. And onscreen consequences aside, most dramas default to offering those asshole parents forgiveness or giving them some miraculous character development. I think it's a cultural thing where parents can never really be seen in a negative light. I can come from a similar culture that's always on the side of the parent so I see it.
I got the sense that the venting wasn't a completely bad thing. I just question why they get the right to do that after making her school life unbearable.
I'm impressed by the quality of the foreign actors. A lot of times in k-dramas it just feels like they pulled a random [white] person off the streets. This feels a little more thought went into the casting.
I don't mind people critiquing a drama I like. What gets my goat is that snotty know-it-all fake-bored attitude some viewers bring to shows they consider intellectually beneath them. This drama is entertaining as hell and you might not enjoy it as much as others but to dismiss it in its entirety? That takes some next-level joylessness. Go watch something niche and artistic for goodness sake and left the mainstream slop to us lesser humans.
I disliked the mistress character on sight. The actress has the character down pat.
"A candidate without approval from the US could never get elected..."
And this ladies and gents and others, is why the US is constantly meddling in other countries affairs. And would support despotic governments and the subjugation of citizens for their own ends. Just to be clear I am personally anti-world powers and love to see them being dragged for their politics, even in fiction.

That switcheroo on the train was kinda sexy.
