This show underutilised Yoo Seung Ho for the first 9 episodes and made Hyeri do all the heavylifting. In episode 10 YSH stepped up and suddenly the show has a new energy.

I hope he stays the focal point of the show from now on. The second leads too are charismatic and need more screentime than the 5-minute per episode they have been getting.

Increased my rating from 9 to 10 because this is the first sageuk I have truly enjoyed watching (can't stand the Sageuk 'politics' usually). Loved how the show said so much about the selfishness of love, about ego in love, the power dynamics of love, bitterness in love.....

We grew up with fairytales of Prince Charming sweeping the girl off her feet, but TRS shows what life with Prince Charming could be for the girl - a gilded cage really.

And yet, how devoted San was to Deokim breaks your heart. How Deokim understood his love but also felt bitter about her loss of freedom hits home. Kudos to the whole team behind this show, especially Jun Ho who has turned in a Superstar-making performance

IMO: She actually had another way out of being a court lady at Hwabin’s palace but she didn’t use it and stuck…
Yes, lots of ways to look at it

Yes, could be that. But her acceptance after years of saying no seemed too sudden and not properly fleshed out. She has been shown to be a person who thinks with her head, not her heart. What she did was out of character.

I doubt she could go crying to Dowager Queen just because she was whipped by the Royal concubine - especially since she always insisted on being treated as other court ladies.

Also, grabbing a king's robe is a big deal. Even if it is as you explained, it is more about her being caged against her will rather than accepting San with her heart.

Saw Lee Jun Ho in Good Manager first and found him really impressive in it, but he has hit it out of the park in The Red Sleeve. What intensity!

The show itself has been excellent at times and silly at times but the wonderful acting all around helped cover up the silly more often than not. But Deokim's attitude and reasoning is making no sense at all in the last few episodes. Her embracing San at the end of Ep 15 left me perplexed instead of elated.

It seems like her change of heart was because to her being San's concubine seemed a better career option than his concubine's court lady, and so she chose the lesser evil. Not quite the grand passion I thought I was watching.

4 episodes in, show has turned out much better than I expected from the promos.

Pros - Complex and engaging story, good acting and lovely cinematography. Came for Yoo Seung Ho but it is Hyeri who is carrying the show till now. Liked her in Reply 1988 and MRIAG too. This is my first time watching Byeon Woo Seok and he is a real charmer. Look forward to his bromance with YSH.

Cons - YSH is not popping as he usually does and his chemistry with Hyeri is lukewarm till now. But he is too good an actor to remain overshadowed for long and I am waiting for him to come into his element soon.
