Just finished ep 10 and I must say after watching hundreds of historical cdramas, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen…
This character is scary twisted. Seeing how he plays his wives, I don't think it's easy to defeat him. He purposely delayed his return, he lays the plan even before meeting the enemy.
Had to use AI to post this (cause what I wanted to say became a bit incoherent so I gave it to AI to make it more…
He portrayed his roles and each roles served each story. If viewers only interested in the interaction/romance of ML and FL, then they will overlook the overall outcome of the portrayal. Generally put the label as stoic, emotionless etc without seeing the context of the drama. But if viewers engrossed in the overall context of drama, like family conflict, past trauma, childhood upbringing etc, such you won't see such generalization because this type of viewers don't see "The Actor", they see "Character".
There is this 1 article on XHS that wrote her/his observation of Xu Kai's approach in acting over the years: http://xhslink.com/m/APo7IwVIlvb
I've noticed that Xu Kai's acting has a sense of strategic play. Gotta say, Xu Kai's been pretty good at picking his roles these past few years. He doesn't stick to just one type of character - he can totally handle everything from historical dramas to realistic stories and modern plays. But what's really cool is how he keeps digging deeper into himself, bringing out that gray area in his characters and showing us the human side of their struggles.
You know, a lot of actors get themselves wrong. They try to challenge themselves by jumping into all kinds of different roles, just to see what they can do. Sure, this gives them a wider range, but it doesn't necessarily make their acting deeper. Being wide is like saying "I can play anything," but being deep is about "how well can I really get into a character's skin." Totally different things, right? Xu Kai's got a clearer idea of what he wants as an actor. He's not worried about his public image - he's focused on how deep he can take a character.
Of course, the whole reason he can do this is because he doesn't need to prove he can play all kinds of roles. Like in his early days as Fu Heng in "Story of Yanxi Palace," he played this pure, restrained gentleman who was like the perfect white moonlight. It might have seemed simple, but he brought out this tragic quality. Then there was Li Yi in "Le You Yuan," this rebellious general whose emotional crying scenes really got to you. These roles showed us how versatile he was, but in recent years, Xu Kai hasn't stopped there. He's started taking on even tougher challenges.
Take Chen Hui in "Eight Hundred Meters Around." This character is all about the gray areas in ordinary people's lives. His conscience and desires are always at war, and he chooses to step into this messy situation. The struggle isn't about battles or politics - it's this inner battle between family, love, and what's right.
What's really interesting is how Xu Kai plays this so naturally, but there's more going on beneath the surface. He talks all proper and polished, but his eyes are darting around, weighing his options, calculating everything. He looks calm on the outside, but underneath, he's constantly thinking about what's best for him. The hardest part is how he shows Chen Hui's lack of control. You can see his pain and struggle, but you also know he's gone too far. That's way harder than just playing a bad guy.
So yeah, I'm really curious about Shen Run in "A Cup of Spring." I think it's going to show this whole different kind of struggle. There's the court drama, the power plays, and the main characters testing each other out. He's up against the bureaucracy, old grudges, and this complicated love-hate thing with the female lead.
This is how Xu Kai has changed over the years. He's not just following what everyone else is doing in the industry. He's not trying to play every type of role out there. Actually, he's more focused on what makes people human. He's not asking "what can I play?" anymore - he's asking "how deep can I really get into a character?" And this kind of depth doesn't come from big, dramatic moments - it comes from control. A lot of the time, the struggle he shows isn't about confrontation - it's about what's hidden. It's in the everyday moments, in his carefully chosen words, in that split second when his eyes dart away and you just get it.
With Xu Kai like this, there's so much more to look forward to. When he treats every role like a deep dive, going all the way down to the bottom of what makes people human, feeling those rough edges and the grit. Then he comes back up, bringing this real, raw feeling to the audience. That's when you know an actor like him hasn't even reached his full potential yet.
Xu Kai should be listed first, by seniority and by stroke count. 🙂
I think this melon acc copied from yxh, not official drama Weibo. Many times yxh said put in sorted by stroke count but they purposely put his name at the back. That's why in MR, SF6, ABAY, WOL, many thought he's 2nd billed then more yxh brainwash saying he just a 2nd billed actor. That's the power of marketing. I wonder who paid all these yxh to belittle him.
It may be because Zhou ye has been busy shooting other dramas, she have no time to attend events or variety shows…
If drama is about to air, regardless whether they are busy or free, production or company will arrange promotion schedule. that's how you serve the investors. the drama need to return profit to the investors. not doing any promotion or participating in it means that's negligence on the company part or production. I know you hate Xu Kai, there's no need to be passive-aggressive commenting here about him. Production will arrange promotion where they see it's fitting. Despite possible low screentime, Xu Kai's presence is necessary to attract audience. That's why he's doing the promotion.
I saw someone corrected that Xu Kai is the global ambassador of WeTV not Tencent's...although WeTV is the Tencent…
Yes, spokesperson for overseas change on annual basis. It's not like typical endorsement where the artist continuously needed to maintain as the brand image. Usually it was given when there's a big drama to represent the platform. 2023 - 2024 were Lusi & Xu Kai, 2024 - 2025: Esther & Zhou Yiran etc.
Xu Kai is really doing things he's never done to promote this drama 😂 even though the drama team mistreated…
Purposely let him dressed up then leave him not filming until late at night. They delayed filming day by day until when filming wrap up, his part is not complete most of it. He just filming a portion of it.
It feels like such an odd way to introduce someone. A more natural English version would be: “Starring Xu Kai…
To highlight comparison. In order words to subtly demean Xu Kai. I'm guessing this user copied this from somewhere else. The drama got nothing to do to highlight their background and both are not newcomer to make such introduction. Someone is not happy with Xu Kai going to Thailand/overseas promoting the drama. This kind of post is minor venting of frustration. It happened in the past whenever something good happening to him and there are in the form of many subtle mocking and slandering. Due to this, over the years, it has develop negative image for Xu Kai. That's why most would avoid associate with liking Xu Kai, because they don't want to be mocked for their choices.
It’s possible that this is all over thinking. I see it could be 1 of 3 scenarios.1. He’s contractually obligated…
You are sure read a lot of brainwashing news that laud Yu Zheng. He's not one of the most influential person in Chinese drama industry and he didn't grab high quality scripts. His scripts were developed in-house through his signed-scriptwriters and he didn't have platform supports, he just got his drama booted out by Tencent. The reason you think he's so powerful is because he marketed it. Those influential people, the one who running the scenes, you will rarely heard of them. No name and newcomers will go to Yu Zheng because his well-known capability of hyping and marketing, but those with industry back up, won't work with him. By the way, in 2021, he received protest signatures and got soft banned for couple of years due to 100 industry people voted against him due to his plagiarism controversial.
It’s possible that this is all over thinking. I see it could be 1 of 3 scenarios.1. He’s contractually obligated…
I don't know what's your direction In this topic. You dismissed everything people replied to you on the basis of assumption, at the same time you also "guessed that friend is didn't go far enough to be able to advise him" and "Xu Kai might laugh at such naive statement". You are hovering between admiring him and belittling him.
It’s possible that this is all over thinking. I see it could be 1 of 3 scenarios.1. He’s contractually obligated…
yeah, the example you gave is what I mean by "The world that he didn't know when he entered is the world of film and television.". You mixed up with celeb world, the world where you have to play hierarchy, coaxing capital, bow to the unspoken rule etc. This is the world that Cherrybanana and me were referring to when she said "he entered the world with his eyes wide open".
It’s possible that this is all over thinking. I see it could be 1 of 3 scenarios.1. He’s contractually obligated…
Yu Zheng approached him in 2013, and until 2016, he has been rejecting Yu Zheng. He once said, he hesitated because he knew the world of celebrity and he got friend who once tried being an actor but quit because he couldn't handle it anymore. He reconsiders later on to see if acting is suitable for him. He didn't reconsider the world of glamour, he considers path of career. The world that he didn't know when he entered is the world of film and television. He told Yu Zheng, his accent might hinder his acting, instead of advising him to learn and improve, YZ told him not to worry because you can always use dubbing.
It’s a melon pushed by marketing accounts. Don’t take it to heart.I heard it’s a big IP, but YZ fans are…
Yes, the fight during filming also pretty bad but it didn't warrant fuss among fandom because at that time they are not yet breakout actors. ZLH's agent core strength is marketing connection while TXW's agent core strength is strong resources connection So POJ is the result of combination of both core strength and that's why it was called pre-meditated success because the success already confirmed before airing. But regardless of that, their agents succeeded in propelling them for better resources due to POJ exposure. Before, both agents were fighting because each fought interest of their artists, after POJ explosion, both reconcile because they both reaped the benefits.
I am hoping that by this time next week, we hear good news about XuKai leaving that agency 🙏🏾
Technically and business-wise, most artist leave quietly. Some company even camouflage that the artist is still in the company despite already left. Because it will affect company's investors and stakeholders.
True. Being popular and have many fans didn't mean they are traffic actors. But in fandom definition, that's how they define it. As long as you acted in idol drama, have fans, you are automatically being labelled as traffic actor.
He always been super low key even during his high traffic days, not just in the past few years. He only participate in variety shows related to drama promotion and has never been engaged with continuous marketing and living in hot search unlike those who aim to cultivate high traffic route. Those who follows traffic route can be seen maintaining their public exposure with high socmed activity.
Among fan circle, maybe they are well known or popular actors but they are not top traffics, just small traffic. The result of endorsement is not because he drives the traffic, it means his works yield the results. He did not drive fake data.
