Xu Kai's character is morally grey, according to China NRTA rules, it's a bit impossible to promote him as absolute main as this will give wrong impression to the viewers and possibly leading the young viewers to glorify morally grey character. If Xu Kai is less known, it's possible to do drama with villain character as main because the chances the drama getting popular and influencing viewers is almost none. My take for this drama is the complete storyline without unnecessary added fillers. I don't mind less or equal screentime if his arc is well lay out. The problem of his dramas in the past is not because of screentime, it's the deletion of his arc and that was obvious given how low his screentime compared to supporting characters.

Nowadays it's hard to get job for long dramas. The number of projects also quite low. So it's normal to do micro dramas. It's better than being jobless.

Wu Jiayi is good with Xu Kai. She was seen promoting Xu Kai few times for dramas. Lin Mu just stuff both Liu Min and He Feng Tian in most Xu Kai's dramas because it's easy for his job. 🙄
