I don't think there should ever be a healthy version of a story if it was written to be unhealthy/toxic to begin…
Their relation is toxic for sure... But it's how you sell that toxicity that makes it a hit or miss. As far as I'm concerned, it just didn't work in the first Chinese version because it was too one sided and forceful ( and I can't forget the "butt" scene, that was awful). On the other side, I'm currently watching "My Stand In" and though the relation was indeed toxic ( and even more in the novel) it's better sold notably because you can see how much the toxic one regrets his past actions ( and in the novel the amount of grovelling is heartbreaking). In my memory, in Addicted... The relationship is toxic but the toxic one ultimately gets what he wants without going through a phase in which he learns to respect his partner.
Anyway the toxicity again, is not what bothers me... as long as you know how to sell it. Almost anything is ok in fiction as long as it's not pedophilia or s*** assault... And if there s*** assault as it was sadly very frequent in BLs from the early 2000s, you need to make the characters atone for their sins before they get together, otherwise it just cannot work.

Title Character
The film was actually pretty good... But I found the open ending... really frustrating. I wish they hadn't done that because we obviously know what is hinted at... on both fronts...and it's not pleasant.
That doesn't negate the quality of the movie... though I wish it had been less gory.

Great ending song btw.

🤣🤣🤣 honestly, i like the drama so far, but it could have been 12 episodes. I think the stroy dragged…
Good for you.
I'm halfway through it. Having a good time. But for me, based on what I've seen so far I'll probably rate it between 8.5 and 9.
Not among my favorites but still very enjoyable. Apart from the fact that it has a slow start and not so great music in my book, I can't find any heavy flow... But I'm just not as much into it as I wish I was.

So I hated "Addicted" with the whole s** assault thing... Dropped it.

I loved "Stay With Me"... But I wished it was a true BL instead of this very heavily censored version because their dynamic was way healthier and it's too bad they did this bromance cosplay...

And here I was looking forward to maybe finally have a version I could fully enjoy until I read the comment section and checked the age of the leads.

Will there ever be a problem-free version of these novels or is there some sort of curse here?

Either they remove all the NC scenes... And focus only on the romance, and that will be Ok in my book... but I will be disappointed because yes, I don't like overly sexualized series but I believe a little bit of steam is part of a healthy romantic relationship and the novel is... very explicit in that matter ( flipped through it and I like the story but I'm not a fan of these scenes which I personally find too brutal but that's a personal opinion), hence I believe one or two scenes should at least portray the intensity of their feelings.

But if they put some NC scenes, I'll feel very conflicted about the whole thing. For a simple reason... 16 is a bit young to really measure what you're currently doing whether his parents agree or not, is not really the issue... They are plenty of young stars who regretted doing s*** ambiguous scenes too early in their career and blamed the adults around them when they got older for not protecting them. They were too young to realize what was the impact of what they were doing. It's not because his parents have approved that it makes it right.

Let's not forget the brain is only fully developed around the age of 23 for women and 25 for men.

And here we have 16. It's not even f** 18 years old.

So I don't know... I'll probably check it out... Maybe they're planning two seasons... one in high school and remove all the NC scenes in the novel... And that will be ok...
And then a second season later, when I don't remember which character is in the army and the other a businessman. At least by the time it comes out, the youngest lead will have at least turned 18.

Why Thaïland Why?

Can I know your other favorites? I'm also parched for quality BLs.
I didn't know when I started it but I checked after because the drama was a bit too good compared to the usual Thai BL fare.

Just check my Watchlist and display it by country. Most of what I've seen from Thaïland are BLs anyway so just check the ratings... Anything above 8.5 is a worthwile watch for me and those are 9 or above are what I personally consider favorites... BUT just a warning, I rate based on my enjoyment level... It doesn't necessarily mean the plot is extraordinary but I had a good time and more importantly I loved the characters ( which is the most important thing in my book... I try to avoid hate watching).
At the top of my head I'd say Kinnporsche, Not Me, Love in the Air ( the first 6 episodes... I didn't like the second couple as much but that's a matter of taste and lets be honest acting) , Cutie Pie, Never Let Me Go and The Eclipse.
Lots of people loved I Told Sunset About You... It's a good one with high quality production as well, but I personally found it a bit slow... Some of these dramas are either available on Iqiyi, Viki and/or Youtube.

Currently on Episode 2.
Best BL I've watched from Thaïland since 2022. Good God, why so many mediocre BL when they know how to make good ones? I'm rating it 9 out of 10 based on my enjoyment level so far.
Tong is insufferable but Joe is such a gorgeous sweetheart. Love him already. Ming is an idiot. Totally blind.

I flipped through the novel since I was too curious so I know where the series is going but I'm not sure they'll have the time to make Ming grovel enough in the series compared to the novel.
Anyway Poom is a nice discovery ^^ I'll be checking his next projects from now on, he's such an eyecandy :D

WHY SO CUTE SHOW!
Also Han Sun Hwa is a cute bubble of sun... But Uhm Tae Goo is cuter. Nobody can beat a big bear acting all shy on the cuteness scale.

is it bad? why the rating is so low ?
I second Leo Sigh's comment
You should only check MDL ratings a couple of months after a show has finished its run and not trust it too much.
Personally it's a hit or miss. Sometimes I agree with the general ratings but often I don't, so I usually check at least the first two episodes before committing to any show. I do have to mention though, that if a show is rated below 8 on MDL, and I don't like the first two episodes, I usually check reviews or comments to see if people are bothered by the same things I was, if it's yes, I drop it, if it's no... I give the show a chance for a couple more episodes.

For me that a very solid first episode. It delivered on its promise and the ML/FL had great chemistry in the first few occurrences we saw them together. I'm only worried about the length... Romance centered drama without any additional thriller/fantasy element tend to fare better with 12 episodes than 16... Usually it veers into melodrama in the latest episodes... So I'm invested all the while being a bit wary of it especially since it's the only project listed for this screenwriter.

So... I swore to myself I wasn't going to watch another series live after Lovely Runner because I don't like being obsessed... But that trailer was just sooooooooooooooo cute. I had to give it a try. I only watched Han Sun Hwa in "School 2017" and I remember loving the drama all the while thinking it was ridiculous she played a teacher at the time when she looked barely older than her students but whatever. As for Uhm Tae Goo, I watched him in the drama "Hometown" and I don't remember his voice leaving a deep impression.

I must have been deaf, or he didn't have lots of lines because my GOD, THAT VOICE. THAT VOICE.
That's all I have to say. Also I have a weakness for any big dude being all soft so this is right up my alley. The voice is just the cherry on top.

Have to go to sleep so only watched the first 20 minutes but so far, so fun ^^

I think it depends on in which order you watched them. For me they're two very different shows. Yes, they both involve time travel and high school shenanigans but honestly the focus of the story is not the same... So I understand the comparison but I feel they should be judged separately.
Again I'll reserve my final judgment once I reach the end... But it won't be a 10, no matter how good the story turns out to be because it just took too much time to get its gears going.

Hope it doesn't fall into the category of "we took our sweet time for everything and we rushed the end" otherwise I'm gonna get pissed.

🤣 dont let your ears bleed just skip the parts where music blasts! Its a slow show at first but worth the watch!!!…
I'm on the end of Episode 4 and Yi Chan's got a really nice voice. Not my style, but at least he sounds like a singer, unlike the singer from the 2023's timeline whose voice is just horrible - sorry no hate for the actor but he can't sing.

Dunno that yet... I'm on episode 4. This show seems to be very loved on MDL... I've read a couple of comments mentioning it was better than Lovely Runner.
Maybe I don't know. Lovely Runner was a 10/10 for me, I loved the characters and story so much I didn't care one bit for the ridiculously huge plot holes and though it wasn't a drama centered around music, the music was just chef's kiss which is unfortunately not the case here. I don't like their singing nor the OST so far... but at least the OST is listenable though not to my taste.

Anyway my opinion is... I understand it didn't become a cult phenomenon like Lovely Runner did... For a very simple reason... It takes too much time to really take off. Episode 4 is finally starting to get the story's gears turning, and it's starting to finally look like a youthful, cute and fun show... But it took 3 episodes to get there... when Lovely Runner grabbed most people at the end of the 2nd episode so first week ( I was personally sold after episode 1 but I know it was not the case for most people). I'm finally starting to enjoy myself... but I feel It took too much time to get there. I hope I won't feel like you once I reach episode 11.

Anyway, bottom line, if you were watching as it aired, you would have had to tune it for the 2nd week to see the story gearing up... and let's be honest, with the amount of shows available, most people are just not that patient unless there's some strong buzz behind.

So I hesitated to post this comment... I posted it then erased it...
But I'm still going to say it anyway.
I have just started this drama... Currently on episode 3... I'm not sold yet. It's not a bad watch... But I'm having trouble getting into the story... But that's not my main issue.

For a drama that seems to be centered around music (so far), the music truly makes my ears bleed. The vocals are terrible. I just want to mute the sound every time I hear somebody singing. It's just that bad. Hopefully it gets better... Or better yet, they stop singing in following episodes otherwise it's going to be a very very painful watch on my part.

Ok...
This is one of these rare instances were I struggled to rate.
It checked all the boxes for me and then some but the excessive violence really spoiled it.
Basically, violence in comics has to be tuned down when made in live action otherwise it turns very gory... And my God, does this drama feature quite a lot of it. It's particularly obvious at the beginning of the series... by the end I got numb to it... which I don't think is a compliment. I don't particularly enjoy getting used to this type of things.

Anyway... If it wasn't for it, It would have been a 9.5 or 10...
But because of it I hesitated to give an 8.5 or 9.
If I rated it solely on my enjoyment scale... I'd say an 8. But honestly, everything is top notch from the story, to the acting, to the music... It's complicated. I really really really wanted to like it as much as everybody else... Especially since this casting is just COMPLETELY INSANE. But I just can't get over the violence especially since the story is so well crafted, why oh WHY did they have to make it so gory? There are tons of great action packed K-Dramas that don't go that route and are just stellar so WHY????

Anyway... Given all these factors... I would rate it 8.75
But since you can't give that ratings on mydramalist, It was a matter of rating it up or down...

But Gotta be honest with myself. It's an 8.5
It's already very highly rated here so no impact of the overall MDL ratings but I think if you're like me and hate excessive violence... You might need to reconsider watching this although all the stories are really touching in particular Gang Hoon's father and son story.

It took 7 episodes to take off and as loveable as Bong Seok is... I wasn't particularly sold... But things are finally getting really interesting in episode 8.
HOWEVER.
I could do without all that excessive violence. I avoid US shows like the plague because of it and I know it's frequent in K-movies, but so far K-Dramas have avoided it albeit for a few exceptions ( I'm looking at you Voice...) but seems to me that shows entirely produced by platforms such as Netflix or Disney + are "indulging" in it to "satisfy western audience".

I had to turn my head several time given how gory some scenes turned out to be especially since it didn't add anything to the story except pure shock value. I'm enjoying the story so far... and will wait for the end to reach a final judgment but it's a definitive minus 1 ( though as far as I'm concerned it deserves a minus 3 at least) for that American-style violence that should be kept in the US where apparently good storytelling has been flushed down the toilet in favor of overly violent and sexualized garbage.
