I agree, many dramas do romanticize it, but this one is teetering between both sides. One, it is definitely selling to the fans that enjoy the toxic relationships with it's aesthetic. But, from other scenes you can clearly tell there is nothing romantic about it (that eating off the floor scene.... goosebumps from how uncomfortable that was). And even in this scene, you can tell despite how romantic it looks, nothing romantic is being said. But the tension between them spewing hate is still intense. It's definitely playing both sides.
I don't know if it's favoritism or just filling the space between our leads meet again.
Oh I can see that, considering how audience's are reacting, it must've been intentional. I personally loved the scenes with he saved her twice more than today... today they just what... made out in a tub? eh.. What was more interesting then the second lead's dynamic was Qimin and the son, that went a little crazy.
But yes, we have far more scenes for the leads I bet, it's only cause they are separated right now that they can use the time to build other characters and side plots.
Every episode I have more reason to love Tian Xi Wei! So many emotions coming from her, her character is full of life, that's why it's so easy to like her. The moment she saw her hooligans she broke out in tears from relief they were alive, but also seeing people from her village that was desecrated, scared to tell them what happened... so many emotions.
In other dramas, I wouldn't expect a character to act like this, because they are side characters, they don't spare emotions for anyone other than the leads, but they got our girl working overtime. And I LOVE IT! It breaks my heart, but Chang Yu is such a good character with a kind soul. It only makes sense she feels all that she does. I can't wait for some more happy moments for her too, let's give her tear ducts some rest.

THIS! It's what I value most about the drama and what justifies the "slow" pace some percieve this drama to have. I rarely connect with side characters like this, but they did it so well. Every body we saw I was just like gasp.... gasp... GAsP.... GAAASSPPPPP

It might be bad writing, a mistake, stuff like this happens so often. Like how she didn't know it was him with the mask on even though she saw him wearing a mask like a few days ago. This is just an example. I'm sure they thought this one more through... it's a different mask, she's in shock, she's being chased by someone, his clothes are even different. I'd like to assume it's the same thing for the ribbon, maybe she's in shock or someone took it off for her after she fainted. From trailers, it looks like they make a symbol out of this ribbon, so I'm sure we'll see some explanation for it.
