That's what I'm thinking. Some dramas put the growth of characters next to each other. But this is Chang Yu's story more than it is his, so I understand the focus of it. The thing with Xie Zheng, they keep building him up to be this amazing fighter, leader, all this talk, but we are barely seeing it. A lot of exposition.
HOWEVER, I think because they are telling us, they FEEL they don't need to show us. He can do whatever, and will come across no problems, like how swiftly he saved Changning from that guy. He can throw a rock, and some guy is on his knees! So, he won't really have growth in the same way Chang Yu will, they don't want to waste too many fight scenes on him (I wish they would tho lol idm). His growth lies elsewhere, in his relationship with Chang Yu. That's why all the scenes he's injured lol.
This episode was so great. I love angst but I love reunions, and we get in the same episode <3 I do wish he suffered a tad bit more, but he said all the right things, so how could she reject him. If she kept on rejecting him, it would've fallen into the noble idiocy trope... "I'll leave for your sake" TRASH. Also, the music in this episode, it already feels so nostalgic. I especially love that flute tune, it's so sweet and yet it tugs on my heart strings.
Yes. I ♥️ her, but I was shocked when she did the hostage thing & drugged him. Both incidents could have…
This is all that I love though. I thought what she did last couple episodes was crazy, pure luck that she escaped scot-free and the outcomes were good. She thinks with her heart not her mind. I'm glad something bad happens to her as a result of her mistakes, with the kid you are speaking about, because it will give her a reality check! I hope in this next military arc we will see her make smarter decisions and became a good general. If that is the case, then all of this is the making of a good character.
A lot of people sound like they are justifying her actions, when I think they are just rationalizing it. If anyone thinks she made the right decision today, is as crazy as her lol. People should be able to understand a character and their motivations but still admit it was a bad decision. Speak your truth sis.
I vent too. I'm not a fan of the characters, or any actresses and actors. Not trying to protect anyone by disallowing…
That's valid, I'm lowkey one of those people stalking the page, but because I'm so lost without this show lol, I don't know what to do with myself while waiting for the next episodes. But I love seeing criticisms and I don't want to blindly support any actor or character without basis. I love Chang Yu but I can see how people are now seeing her as a Mary Sue or are upset that the plot seems to be using Xie Zheng to make her look better. I find those points interesting.
I see the people you speak of, who defend the characters with their lives. It's hard not too because they are pretty solid characters... but they aren't perfect! Love to hear it! (●'◡'●)
Yeah. I feel just like ML not telling FL about his real identity, stems from his insecurity of loosing her, he…
Exactly this! The mistakes are a result of their love... they made rash decisions. Despite there being slight* excuses for their actions (e.g. she drugs him cause he lied to her, he lies cause he is afraid of her leaving), the love makes it easier to understand. It's like the noble idiocy trope but with some backing... you can understand them. As of now, there love makes them weak, but with time and character growth, it'll make them stronger!
I love seeing all the comments about Tian Xi Wei's acting today, cause I can't stop thinking about it. Zhang Ling He is really good at acting with his eyes, this role requires more of it since he's supposed to be stoic. But TXW uses her whole face, and it's never over exaggerated. Today, seeing him as the Marquis was perfect, you could see she was shocked, hurt by the lies, felt dumbfounded and betrayed, all over her face.
I think my favorite moment was when she finally sees him after their first break up in the tent. Just look at her face compared to ZLH. You can see how he's surprised, but she feels so many emotions. He didn't know she was searching for him this entire time, but she has gone through so much to find him, and him finally appearing in front of her like this. This is an excuse to go rewatch that episode ;) I'm looking forward to see more of her acting chops tomorrow.
the whole episode was fantastic but to name two moments: when her butcher knife broke.. You know you've developed a character that an audience love so dearly when they mourn her knife 😭😭 and secondly, seeing Xie Zheng's face when he saw Chang Yu turn around. My heart dropped...
In many historical dramas, there's always a war scene, but none made me feel like this one. I'm sure there are great one out there, but I can't recall a time I got to see the lead see horrific nature of war and still kick some ass. The female lead despite knowing how to fight chose to play it safe for the sake of Yan Zheng, Ning, and her pig squad. Keeping them safe and coming home to her family is her top priority, I appreciate she doesn't automatically go and be a bad ass, it's not as easy as flicking a switch. But when that flick switched, omg she was sooooo cool!
The cinematography of the whole scene was so beautiful and intense. It felt so real, slightly exaggerated, but I'm not complaining. People flying, dead bodies, fire logs, it was just intense. I loved when the flags moved aside to reveal the pig butcher squad just reeling it all in. Then when they are forced to help, it got even cooler. Not just Chang Yu, but all the hooligans were cool. I like how their fighting style was rough, like they haven't been trained, which I'd expect. Shout out General Xiu Wu as well, he was dope.
But the coolest of all was Chang Yu, what a well choreographed fight scene. Her tiny self with her knives, and goliath with his big ass hammers or whatever those were! She fought the only way she could to take him down. So entertaining, I usually don't give a crap about fights but they did too so well, I couldn't help but admire it.
Yes she acted on her own without seeking permission from the higher ups because she knows nothing about military…
Yea, I don’t hate her for it because she understands where she was wrong. She has good intentions, it wasn’t completely foolish, she did put thought into it. This is just part of her character development!
Also can someone share the link to English novel, what chapter does that trending clip where he kisses her when she is drunk happen. She calls him Marquis lol, I need to cope with not being able to see that for like a week I assume 😭
I won’t sympathize with XZ for taking her punishment, nor do I think it’s ONLY love. It’s lowkey manipulation. He cannot bear to hurt her, but he needs her to know what she did was wrong. She put herself in danger, and when she does that, it hurts him. So here Chang Yu, you got what you asked for. I understand why he is doing it, but it’s a little crazy. I’d be so upset after I find out he was the Marquis, not just for hiding, but doing that whole thing. That’s a messed up way to teach someone you love a lesson.
Usually this comment section is all love for this show and it's characters but there seem to be misunderstandings. People are disappointed by the lack of screentime for the ML, and that's fair! People don't care for the second leads anymore and just want our main leads to get more screentime, that's also fair!
On the other side, there are people who are enjoying the show right now, despite all of the above. They understand the importance of these scenes to Chang Yu's character growth. The fact that we had a great uninterrupted 15 episodes with our main leads, and can spare time to the second leads. The fact that our main leads are currently separated and the story must go on, therefore filling the space with other important scenes.
The thing is, I'm sure the people disappointed ALSO agree with this stuff, well most of it (second-lead stuff is tiring some). They just miss our main leads together. I think all the teasers we are seeing definitely aren't helping. I know for a fact it ain't helping me.... I need to get off tiktok lol. Everyone here seems to unanimously love Chang Yu and are enjoying seeing her become a more refined Jade, one that can stand confidently next to Marquis Wu-An. But they also want the ML.
People consume media differently. Some enjoy the fluff, the angst, the romance, the politics, all are fair! I do have favourites, but this show is hitting the benchmark for ALL of these in my book, which is why I'm not upset. Rather than waiting for something to happen, I'm just waiting for the episodes to release... feel me?
