I think with all the planned soul-shifting by Shaman Choi and Jin Mu that something will go awry. Call me crazy,…
Wow, I went to be (different side of the world) and got up early to watch. Things got crazy. Anyway, here's my wild thought - I just can't wrap my head around the JBY by the creek in sari village (waiting for her parents to find her) and the JBY priestess talking to Naksu in the ice stone. So, what if JBY is shifted into so-i's body. It would be sort of crazy thing the Hong Sisters would do. 🤣🤣🤣
They keep saying about plot twists, unexpected twist in this final,What if, someone we think is "good" actually…
I think with all the planned soul-shifting by Shaman Choi and Jin Mu that something will go awry. Call me crazy, but I think there is hope that JBY will live - in a different body. 😎😎
I have a confession guys, its weird how I LOVE THIS DRAMA. To be honest, I can do without the "romance" between…
You are not alone, but keep in mind that different "romance" tropes appeal to different viewers. I recently re-watched parts of Sh**ting Stars and I absolutely adored how that romance finally came together. It is my favorite trope. Frankly, the Park Jin/Maidservent Kim "romance" is more like Sh**ting Stars than the other main AoS couple. I cannot wait for Part 2 of AoS because of Park Jin/Maidservant Kim AND the adorable ChoDang couple.
I have hesitated to post this previously, but perhaps now is the time. A Main FEMALE lead doesn't necessarily…
"Main Female Lead" means the female playing THE lead female role. It doesn't need to be romantic. I'm not predicting, but if - for example - Jung So-min returns as Jin-Bu-yeon with her own MAIN story (separate from Jang Uk), she would be THE female lead. I am simply trying viewers to realize that THE Main role is not necessarily A Romantic role. We will get our answer at the very, very end of Ep. 20, it looks like. 😊
Here is a very fun and intriguing article that interviews the main actors to find out their favorite scenes. If this sort of stuff interests you, I urge you to read the entire article (difficult for English speakers) and the Twitter page by "alchemy Of sOuls" that provides an easier to read English translation. Meanwhile, these are my paraphrased notes and thoughts.
JSM: JBY’s summoning scene at the end of Ep. 17. [paraphrase} It was meaningful because it was the scene where the soul of JBY who was asleep, for the first time woke up and mother and daughter faced each other. [Thereby confirming for us viewers that JBY has been “asleep” and not just an empty shell.]
LJW: End of Ep. 3 where JU and Park Jin confront each other. “I think this is the scene that bests shows the character JU, who is hurt and not broken” [My note: That scene is my favorite because it perfectly captures the OST “Scars Leave Beautiful Traces”.]
HMH: Ep. 18 fight between Seo Yul and Kang Gaek-joo, because he (HMH) put a lot of effort and he was risking his life to protect someone [Yul: She’s not worth it – she deserved to die.]
YJS: Ep 1, the original confrontation between Park Jin and Naksu.
ONR: Ep. 20 – and she can’t say why. [paraphrase: there will be a lot of reversals and things to see until the end.”]
YIS: Ep 16 where the three guys sit around talking about their childhood memories
Arin: First appearance of Cho-yeon with the spring cherry blossoms and her sword. [Sweetheart, you should have chosen the scene with Gwiju – it was breathtaking!]
New AoS article! It's about why Alchemy of Souls has become "a well made K-Fantasy"They praised all of the actor…
They also confirm a December release. The last paragraph is the best (the following is a slightly different translation I found on Twitter because I couldn't copy/past from the article):
The story of '#AlchemyOfSouls ' is divided into three main parts [or stems]:
1. the narrative of Jang-wook and Mu-deok-i (Nak-su) 2. the conspiracy of magic powers surrounding the ice stone 3. the story of Jin Bu-yeon, the original owner of Mu-deok's body
When the mage lady killed mu-deok to test the power of the ice stone, since mu-deok is a soul shifter wouldn’t…
I always believed that since JBY's soul was IN HER OWN BODY, the body wasn't going to run wild. JBY isn't THE ice stone - Her birth was a direct result of the alchemy of souls - just like Jang Uk.
Perhaps in the end, the writers will credit the ice stone for why she didn't run wild, but I always thought it was because JBY was in her own body. That is easier for me to understand than ice-stone-mumbo-jumbo. 😊
A question hereWho gets magic by birth ? The current king doesn't have magic but Jin mu has
Jin Mu appears to use "sorcery" rather than "magic". We haven't seen him deal with water (except for one scene in ep. 15). I think his sword is "enchanted" - energized by the power of the ice stone. (Of course, I think Naksu's sword is also enchanted😊😊).
I can’t be the only one who’s skipping all the romantic scenes, I’m just not feeling it...on the other hand…
The romance became one of co-dependency (yes, yes, I know all the reasons why their personal histories provide a rationale for the co-dependency) and as of Ep. 17, we finally get to "the love of a good man saved a bad woman" story (although it is a twist or the common "the love a of a good woman. . . . . " trope.
Thankfully, there are so many other interesting characters and evil-doers, not to mention the jaw-dropping cinematography that I still enjoy the show. Not to mention a flawless performance by JSM playing three different personalities.
I don't mind the campy-ness nor the trope bingo as long it is well executed and entertaining tbh. But for once…
Just watched Ep. 1 (guess I have to wait for Viki scribes to do their thing with Ep. 2). This is my flavor of rom-com which is what I will need once Alchemy of Souls ends this weekend.
Haha on a serious note, I believe Naksu's identity will be revealed and Ukkie Deokie are going to be forced apart.…
If they would simply give the other Three Seasons some spectacular stories/moments of courage and development - SEPARATE from JangUk/Naksu, I would be happy.
Hey, guys! What are your expectations for the season finale?I have no expectations. I don't like to suffer in…
Expectation: Frozen Body appears. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
On a serious note:
LJW said: "the ending is something that you guys can't imagine. JSM: "you might think it's almost over but you can only know by watching it till the end "
So, something tragic/heart-breaking and then. . . . one last scene with a positive "twist" (example: Mu-deok's jade egg appears on screen?) so that viewers will want to watch Season 2.
Yes, Master Lee can shift his soul and not running wild because he is at Hwansu level.
I realize he can shift his own soul - I've been wondering if he can shift/transfer souls between two other bodies - which is the basic "alchemy of souls" that this show revolves around.
I don't think so. I think it only works with your own soul. However, there is another interesting fact about Hwansu…
w/r/t Master Lee, I thought the boy had died and therefor his soul was no longer in his body - so Master Lee was able to easily shift into it. I think the souls leave - but they can be "returned" through the alchemy of souls (perhaps like Bu-yeon? we really don't know exactly what happened with her original soul).
I re-read my notes and the discussion with Master Heo was about "alchemy of souls" and he indicated that it could be performed if one has mastered Hwansu. But so many other ice stone/Soul Ejector "rules" have been broken or ignored after 18 episodes that at this point I don't think we can rely on anything from the early episodes.
Question: Master Lee is at Hwansu level. Does that mean that if he wanted to, he could shift Naksu's soul from Bu-yeon's body into Naksu's body (if it still existed) and there would be no consequences (ie, running wild, etc)???
For weeks, I envisioned Jin Mu trying to do something when he realized that Jin Bu-yeon was alive in "Mu-deok's" body, but he would need the ice stone/Shaman Choi to do it (to avoid using Soul Ejector). Just wondering if Master Lee could do it.
I saw it!! And her partner will be Kang Ha Neul, thats great! already wanna watch it. 😀
I don't know anything about Kang Ha Neul except that he recently starred in "Insider" which looked fascinating but is clearly much too violent for my tender eyes and ears. Can't wait for a rom-com with the two of them. 😍
But all is good, my favorite couple ChoDang is featured in the ep. 19 Pre-release! (Will post Eng translation if I can find them)
