This is the first period drama in China that even features a black guy. Even if you see that as a bad thing and are enraged atm about how they are using this, I think this is how it is going to start. Back in the days we Wersterners did Blackface n shit bc we didn't want black people to play any roles. Rather just paint a white person. I think every nation goes through certain steps and Asia is already tamer then we were. They are coming from an underdeveloped country with rich history, mostly being shut in and seeing nothing but themselves to where they are now and that in like 50 years or so? In china just the last generation ago (my friends parents) were still married off by their parents. Now women can chose to marry the guy they want not what their parents tell them. You might not like the slow speed of how Asia is adapting to race, or gays or what not but I think this is a step forward, rather than back. Let there be black people and some might say something inappropriate but hopefully there will be another drama with a black person, maybe an indian/etc, and people will adapt to this. But it has to start somewhere. Not saying that a start like that is pretty, neither was ours. But cut Asia some slack.
Ep.06 I'm so fu*king tired of the racism in Asian dramas honestly it makes me sick! And I'm even more tired of…
I don't see the problem. I didn't feel that it was insulting. Also, it plays in an ancient setting. Did they EVER see a black man in those times? I doubt it. They got over the fact that he is black right away and have you seen how cute his pupil was when her shifu showed up, too hardwarming aww After his first appearence they just treated him like every other character. I have no idea how they should introduce a black character in an ancient drama without having people react to it. I think you are blowing it out of proportion here.
If Jing Yi was the main female lead, I would honestly give this drama another chance. It's not that I dislike…
I am so sad for your ML to have acted with someone like that. It feels like her daddy got her into acting and gets her all these roles. At her lvl she should be supporting cast (at best). I hope she will improve with the coming years... However, I think you should still give it a try and watch at least till the mid of the drama. (To me) she only got bad after the middle part. Maybe bc that is when the romance starts and she just does not have any chemestry.
Was going to start this drama but seeing all the reviews of the main girl I’m not sure now. Is it still worth…
I would watch it anyway. I didn't mind her at all for about half the series. She was fine, nothing special and only later in the serious I found out how dead her acting actually was. So frustrating but Zhang Ruo Yun (ML) was too good for me to not finish the drama anyway. I must say though, I was totally digging his costume and his eyes. <3 So give it half the drama and if you start getting bored with the looks/story, then just drop it. But at least you have seen the good parts ;)
I agree with the others who say that you might need a break. I recently finished The Untamed and was swept away…
I also like watching BTS when I am stuck, especially the ones form 'The Untamed' are so great. But also the BTS of 'The Legends', 'Eternal Love', 'Better Love Than Immortality' and 'Peach Blossom' are fun. Totally agree with the Guardian and Suspicious Partner (also has good BTW) recommondations. Mad Dog was great too but Duel I still have to watch :3
I do the same. I am so glad for mydramalists tags. Really saving my life
I do! I wish there was more out there like that. I had a lot of fun XD I also love the Eternal Love, I am mid watching the 2nd season right now. Only 3 more episodes to go. I can't wait for the 3rd season! <3
When I fall in a similar hole I ask myself what happened?! Having had so many great things in life to enjoy only now to find new stuff boring, how did it come so far? Is it the dramas or is it me?! What happens to me is that I over ate on all the things I already know I love and I am closing up to new things. Not funny drama or not romantic ones can be just as good and I did enjoy some in the past but whenever I over ate I only want funny ones which are not too serious. What I do at times like these is, I keep away from dramas, especially not rewatch my beloved ones again. When reality/real life settled in again I open up to new experiences again. I find myself liking a drama I wouldn't have had the patience for before.
