So many negative comments recently, so I'll add one positive in the mix: I liked this drama, and it's one of those I keep coming back to. Even though some scenes are more boring and I skip them when I re-watch, the drama is definitely worth watching, more than once! People who come here to read the comments and decide whether to watch it, give it a try and don't give up too soon! The best part starts after he knows who she is.

I don't remember, but when I rewatch I skip all the parts when they play the game and all the parts where the ML is at work. So if you feel like giving up I recommend you fast-forward those parts at least until you start to get into it.

I went in with low expectations because of the rating, and was pleasantly surprised. It was not very realistic, especially some of the villains were over the top and illogical, but it was very entertaining. After about 200 dramas I get bored easily but this one I binged in two days and only fast forwarded some villain scenes in the last eps. There was a lot of romance. The ML fell for the FL soon and was since then very passionate until the end. After the initial misunderstanding the other small misunderstandings were solved quickly. Over all the pace was fast enough to keep me hooked. I recommend this at least to people who watch short-length dramas.

I think it was because he was already in love with her and did not see her as a sister, so her in his sheets made him think sexual thoughts that he knew she would not be ready for. Another possibility is that he had been touching himself there and was afraid there were traces to smell, or she would walk in on him later on such a moment. Anyway some kind of Chinese thing about women and men not being too close, but I'm not sure either even though I am an adult, because where I live there are no locks on doors inside houses and people are much more relaxed with non-sexual intimacy and nudity.

6 months late, but there are no kiss scenes between 2nd couple. SML only likes the FL during the drama. Him warming up to SFL is hinted in the end, but they are not together at any point.

Thank you for the review! Do you know at what point of the story/novel did the audience vote for who she would end up with? I'm also interested if the author has revealed her (or his?) favorite who she was first planning to become the male lead? After reading bits from here and there it feels like it was going to be ZZ and that's the reason they changed his arc in the drama so XW would be more obvious ML.

Oh no, so much for that learning then... The censorship keeps getting stricter all the time. I'm glad we have the old dramas, and let's hope things will get easier in the future!

I was wondering why it was called Story of Kunning palace, when there has been no Kunning palace mentioned in the drama :D

Thanks! That's disappointing, though I get their point of view. I have seen some that are set in certain years and find it interesting to compare how culture etc. changes.

Does someone know what year is this drama set on? Like what historical time are the costumes etc. based on?

I'm so glad this was less than 40 episodes. I felt like it was on point almost all the time, there were not so many unnecessary side plots as there are in many other xianxias/wuxias. Now it was a pleasure to watch without skipping!

He was okay, but I think there would have been other good choices, maybe more to my liking. Do you know which other actors they considered?

I just came back to tell you that I watched this and do not regret it :) There were only a couple of not so interesting side plots/missions and mostly it was just the main plot continuing with a good pace. The FL was awesome and the main couple's relationship good, though not my favorite. There were many funny moments too. It was very nice to see a good xianxia drama after a while!

Does anyone know with which characters is Shen Li's name written originally?

This gets good reviews but I'm still on the fence whether to start watching or not. I am bored of all those historical dramas where the leads complete some random mission after mission and grow closer during them. I prefer a bigger plot and complicate relationships (doesn't have to be romantic relationships, family relationships etc. are also interesting). I like romance where there is tension and strong emotions, highs and lows. Humor is of course a plus though not necessary. When I read the comments people are praising the visuals and other stuff I don't care so much about. I have just dropped too many xianxias or wuxias lately, but then some of my favorite dramas are also xianxias so I always hope to find a new favorite.
