Hahahah I know the confusion about him. Yes, I think they re-cast him as someone else to boost some viewers. His character in TotS is Er Ye's student but also the descendant and the current leader of the Xie family, the ninth family. His character (different actor) appears in The Lost Tomb 2 quite often too, if you watched that ;)

What girl that kidnaps them do you mean? Ning? She reappears multiple times though...
The friend of Wu Xie disappears in season 2 mostly because it was re-cast and they don't re-cast all the roles. I hope I could help. If you want you can ask more, I hope I can answer your questions ^.^

I agree that some things in the series are really not that great, but I don't agree with some of your sentiments regarding the series. Why would I watch this for the cute boys???
I did think CitT had a better story pace, I did not however get the story behind it in total. Funny enough, I understood Daomu better, but maybe that's just me ;)

I do recommend starting with The Lost Tomb first because it is kinda the beginning of the series, even if The Mystic Nine does not feature the same characters but you kind of get introduced to the whole mystery behind the tomb raiding. So I recommend trying that and maybe then getting back to The Mystic Nine?

I just recently started reading the books so I don't know how far it goes?! The translation did seem pretty far ahead so I don't really know about the books. Did you read the novel?

I would recommend watching it in the release or chronological order. Since they are loosely connected I do recommend watching The Lost Tomb 1 first and The Mystic Nine BEFORE Tomb Of The Sea. Otherwise you can just watch it however you like I guess ;)

Yes, the novel has it as a game but to for whatever reasons they changed it last minute for the series.

It's an E-Sports series and the hacking is so much portrayed like gaming, I decided to include it :)

Don't worry, the CTF in Go Go Squid seems quite similar to gaming, so if you like Gank Your Heart, GGS is definitely good too and it has a little less melodrama but cute romance.
