I was wondering this too but then I thought maybe since she was so disappointed that he had no spiritual veins that she actually didn’t bother to name him. That maybe whoever found him had given him his name. It’s also possible that given the fact that he was a slave, he might not have had a name until his master rescued him because that would just go to show how worthless his life was the fact that he didn’t even warrant a name. Maybe he just named himself.

No Bo Yu Lan didn’t swap him the empress did, since he wasn’t born with spiritual veins and power and strength is all she cares about. She gave him to Bo Yu Lan who out of bitterness, anger and resentment at having her neice taken away after her sister died in childbirth abandoned him in the wilderness. She did feel bad and did go back but he had already disappeared. What she did was inexcusable but I think due to guilt and remorse she stayed in the area in case he ever turned up.

Honestly, I feel most of the upper own kingdoms are a shitty places for people with no or low spiritual powers. Think about how Si Tu Long was also treated as someone who had no spiritual veins and as a prince in Zushui Kingdom he was constantly bullied and abused

Yes, I also struggled with shadow love. Eventually, I ended up just skipping from episode 10 to like episode 25 because I was so bored and for the first time ever I actually enjoyed the second half of a drama way more than the first half lol

She doesn’t get a free pass for sure. Just because he had it worse doesn’t invalidate the face that she also had an abusive upbringing. Even though her experiences were different. At least he had access to outside influences once he escaped? The truth is the only influence she really had until she was forced to leave was her mother the empress. So I think the empress herself actually really kept her under tight control. At least he had the ability to form his own identity. She’s never been allowed to form her own identity outside of the illusion of her being a man and the crown prince

That’s the thing, she’s literally been living a lie her entire life. So from the moment she was born, she is learned that she has to lie so for her it’s a survival mechanism so while we can say oh, it’s not that hard to tell the truth when you’ve lived in an environment where you have to get used to lying in order to survive it just becomes natural as a survival tool. So while we can say oh, she should be more truthful. It’s not that hard. It is hard for her.

I read a novel spoiler and then Nola has a happy ending so hopefully fingers crossed they’ll keep the happy ending in the drama

Even though the drama has literally changed everything about the novel from what I’ve heard the one thing that I’m disappointed in is that they changed Si Tu Longs character. Someone just recently commented to one of my comments that in the novel he’s like 15 years old so she only ever saw him as a little brother. Yes he did a harbour romantic interest, but he didn’t do anything about it other than needle JZB to his face because he didn’t think he was good enough for her lol. I understand a drama wanting to create more drama and angst, but why did they have to change this one thing and turn the second mail lead into an annoying character?
