I’m enjoying this a lot & it’s in my top 10 all time c-drama list. If it can stick the landing then it might even crack the top 5! However, there are those who are not enjoying it because they say it’s a tired trope (rebirth, “cold ML,”), a rip off of MingLan, too similar to the Double (revenge), FL already married & was cheated on, etc….so there you have it. Some of the complaints I’ve come across. I would recommend you give it a shot because tbh- I haven’t seen this much fervor for a c-drama beyond C-drama hardcore fans since LBDAF. It’s that popular.

Exactly! FL is out there doing her job and she’s doing it well. She can be reckless at times but def not dumb. I’m just surprised that after all her shenanigans ML hasn’t assigned to guard to protect her lol

I’m currently enjoying this show for what it is- a fluffy crime solving romance w/superficial court intrigue drama. I like the ML & FL, enjoy some of the side characters, and the storyline is fine. The FL & ML can be frustrating at times w/their inability to communicate but I’m noticing that FL is getting the brunt of the criticisms within these comments. It’s a trend that I’ve noticed - female actors are not given the same grace as their male counterParts even when their acting is sus or when they’re being hella possessive or toxic. They jump to complain about “dumb” FL but ignore toxic ML. This is just my observations. Also, I highly doubt that famous actresses/actors are spying on MDL to badmouth other dramas or their fellow actresses/actors. It’s their toxic delulu fans who get on here to spout their nonsense lol. If I don’t like an actor/actress, I just skip their dramas or their show page. It is easier than hate watching to bitch about them later. Legitimate criticism is fine but oftentimes those comments feel like personal attacks. Anyways- happy drama watching . If anyone is from CA I hope ur staying cool & hydrated cuz it’s SO HOOOOOOOT!

The drama was mid to me. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t the worst out there. I enjoyed the beg episodes more than the latter parts of the series. It’s prob not a show I’ll rewatch again. I do like XK & Seven Tan so I finished it for them.

Anyone else have issues w/Seven Tan’s wardrobe?? Sometimes they put her in really matronly suits that make her look middle aged aunty instead of a 28yr old business woman?? The other ladies look so sleek in their professional outfits but they did my girl dirty? lol and the bob hair cut doesn’t help!

I’m actually glad the emperor didn’t get any redeeming arc because he didn’t deserve it. He killed off his brothers and his son, and treated his Nephew like a tool. I appreciated that his character stayed consistently manipulative and cruel. But the ending when he was poisoned and his son was poisoned was kinda hilarious because of the flashbacks. I dunno why the cuts cracked me up lol

I completely agree! I’m not a fan of too much angst or drama in relationships because a good relationship requires good communication & trust & support. Stable mature relationships really are arent flashy. You just run errands together & eat & talk lol

That’s the sucky part about having the burden of carrying your family on your shoulders. She promised her grandmother she will get the men back home- she promised her grandfather that she will get them home. She knows how fickle the damn emperor is so of course she’s going to be pragmatic about it. Remember they can’t even marry for 3 years due to his mourning so why not prioritize what is within your control and take care of businesss? Yes still loves him but she is also the head of the household so every decision she makes affects not just her family but so many others.

I agree! The emperor is so scary because he’s manipulative & paranoid & I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the mastermind behind all the ish that’s been happening. It would be so random to have some other royal family member be it Big Bad. but we’ll see!

I really didn’t see Fudong as borderline mentally challenged but more meek & timid because of her trauma from being sold by her dad. But yes! I loved seeing her rising from the trauma & being her own boss!! We love to see that!!!!

Since they’ve been such great communicators and have always been open with one another, I think her wanting to be free from palace restrictions would be the ONLY legitimate reason for a break-up. At least to me, that would make the most sense because they want different things in life & may no longer be compatible. She wouldn’t be able to come & go as she pleased to see her family - especially her grandfather - once she enters the palace. So I look forward to the next 10 episodes of angst, angst, and more angst…then hopefully a non-rushed happy ending for EVERYONE! You get a hubby! You get a hubby! You get a hubby !! lol

Saw upcoming scenes and I know angst is coming soon — Please PLEASE don’t drag it because they’ve been doing such a great job w/flipping the tropes. Ten more episodes so don’t mess up the landing director and script writer ! 🙏🏼

It’s not the main storyline but it is an amazing romance :)
