I'm not very far in the series yet, but if I knew Yan An from Pentagon was in this, I would have prioritize watching this series a little higher since I am a fan. Also a fan of Neo, but I've only seen him I Am Nobody so far. I like the humor, the show itself is beautiful, and it's thought-provoking. I am finding myself thinking a lot about human and demon nature, and the inherent evil of each. When a series provokes thought, it's a good sign. So far, I am enjoying the series.

I will say I do prefer the chemistry of Sky and Nani. Woobin and Jongsuk has great bromance too, but I prefer the Thai pairing just a little more. There were a lot of things either the older version did better or the remake did better, but in general, I rated the remake higher as the changes in the story made it slightly more interesting for me. After seeing the original, I appreciate the fresh take on the original by altering some of the details of the story while still imparting many of the same lessons. A lot of the supporting classmates were more memorable to me in this, although I do prefer Ji Hoon's character from the original to the Thai counterpart in this version (studious twin minion).

There's an exchange that happens late in the series that I think captures why this series is so divisive: the…
For the scene you described, I do agree that it doesn't make sense. I do slightly disagree on it not being realistic, though. I say that because to me, things not making sense doesn't mean it's not realistic.

I think people in general are pretty complex when it comes to our emotions and psychology. Sometimes the things we say and do contradict how we really feel at a subconscious level. There are times where we may want something because we think it's for the better, but deep down, we hope that the other party would see our heart and understand. I don't know if that makes sense but the best example I can equate it to is when someone who is not fine say they're ok. They may keep pretending and insisting they are ok, but may drop a line that may suggest otherwise. As adamant as Sol may be, there will be moments of weakness and wanting the ML to know and not know at the same time. A subconscious wishful thinking.

As for the other stuff you mentioned, I agree that how people feel about this series will ultimately depend on personal experience, how they interpret the love story, and what they are looking for.
On Lovely Runner Feb 18, 2025
Since it's been a couple months, I decided to start a rewatch of this series and I still very much like Sol's character. Very endearing and sincere in her pursuit of saving her idol. I recently learned a new word towards the end of last year that I couldn't help but think of as I'm rewatching this. Inyeon. Fate. It can apply to many scenarios and series, but when watching time travel specifically, that feeling that there is a reason or greater force behind events feel even more prevalent. Mostly just rambling now, but I'm still very much enjoying this series and still finding it very cute.

I come to this page randomly, for someone who liked this drama in a way but also had my critics, I’m exhausted…
I agree =)

It's a problem on both sides from what I saw around early fall last year when I complete this drama and I'm still seeing it now. Whenever anything gets popular, be it a series, music, or person and the fandom grows, there are going to be good and bad apples. That can't be helped. I've seen some haters who insults the watcher instead of criticizing the series, but I've also seen supporters here who gets overly defensive and even threaten harsh critics or tell them to off themselves. When the criticisms of a series occur, it's better to just move on if we can't have a civil exchange. However, there are/were comments on both sides that attack a person rather than commenting on the drama itself. I remember a very insulting comment about the people who like this drama having to be a certain kind of person. It's better to quietly report those kind of comments instead of engaging back and forth, but that kind of comment is where I think the conflicts and escalations come from.

It's also hard to read tone over the internet. Someone may say something and word it in a way, and someone else can take it offensively. As much as I would like to say to give people the benefit of the doubt (unless it's really blatant), not everyone will do that.

Your comment and the comment before yours (at least, the main post) are basically saying the same thing, just in a different way and from different perspectives. It's a problem when someone give positive review but it's also a problem when someone give a negative one. Both sides accuse each other of botting, but ultimately, it just is what it is. And it's usually the same people. Like in my reply to the posts below, idk how big of a problem bots are, but if it's a thing, it's a thing on both sides. Instigating comes from both sides, best we could do is just not feed into it.

I think it's much more reasonable to make comments such as: It's a polarizing show, in a popular genre. Many people…
People are ultimately free to do what they want, but yeah, I agree. It seems exhausting to continuously come back to comment/post the same negative feedback. There are some comments that are fair, but then there are some that seem to just want to rile people up. It makes more sense for the people who enjoy it and want to support the drama to defend it (though I also acknowledge a few supporters also go too far to insult those that give negative feedback). I can't comment so much on the botting thing since I don't pay attention enough to that to have any kind of commentary on it, but if it's a thing, I don't think it's a one-sided thing either.

As for rating, I do get into the 7ish ratings though, but I dont think that's bad. It just means it was ok. A lot of the series I've watch is 8 or above though.

9.5 - awesome, high chance of rewatch.
9 - great, good chance of rewatch.
8.5 - Very good, wouldn't mind rewatching with someone else
8 - good, but idk if I would rewatch
7.5 - I liked it, it was ok, wouldn't rewatch though
7 - It's ok, but either I was cringing a lot or really uninterested

An honest question out of curiosity and NOT another meaning, for those natives from South Korea or familiar with…
I'm not Korean so I can't fully answer in that regards, but as a 35 year old Vietnamese man with a 32 year old sister, neither of us are too old to be beaten by our mother if we mess up. And at least within the circle of Asians I know, it's not an uncommon thing. With that said though, it's probably less common/acceptable now for the younger generations.

Would anyone please tell me the soundtracks in Episode 4 from minute 4:07 to 6:36 and Episode 5 from minute 4:39…
They just release Part 1 OST for Seoul Blues today for members. As of right now, no idea on the song from episode 4 yet. It's not part of the released tracks on the Part 1 OST. The song in episode 5 is called "Still Here". Idk the artist info as the artist is usually just credited as SUKFILM.

I'll probably write a more in-dept review soon later, but I really loved this series. Loved both the couples. I enjoyed the sincere and honest conversations/dialogues. Lots of memorable moments and great little life lessons shown throughout. Female lead was very capable and overcame her hardships through her own hard work and sincerity.

At the end of the series, they were only celebrating their 2nd wedding anniversary, so not that long.

everyone talking about smls relationship lol can someone tell me how they married for years and you telling me…
Why are you assuming the worst about her? People can and have gone a long time without a physical relationship. Also, she's been shown to be logical, thoughtful, and pretty straight-forward/honest. If she had, I think she'd be honest about it.

"Very cheerful distant cousin" is a good description xD Yeah, I have not seen A Timed Called You yet. I keep putting it off cause I know my brain will compare with the original, but I hope I will eventually get to it

Just finished this and definitely worth the watch for me. It's very reminiscent of "Someday or One Day" and its adaptations except this one isn't as complicated. It was very interesting from start to finish for me because of the layers/complexity. It can get confusing if you're not paying attention, but it's not complex as Someday or One Day. Also lots of cute and funny moments that made me smile. A good watch.

As a side note, I watched this on Viki and I saw a lot of hate for the female lead character but personally I thought she was fine. Very likable. Her choices were understandable given what she knew and given what her goal was. Another type of hate comment I see is that this would not be as popular if the leads weren't attractive. I can't say if it would still be as hyped as it, but for me, I would still feel the same way about this series even if they were replaced. I think it's unfair to reduce general opinion to shallowness to justify why your expectations dont match up with others. If you don't like, you don't like. That's valid. It doesnt mean other people liking it are invalid. I enjoyed it. And if it matters, hopefully it doesn't, but I am a 35yr old straight male. So my point is just watch whatever intrigues you and stop if it's not to your liking. Don't like ratings or reviews discourage you from watching cause we all value different things and have different taste. =)

Yes, it is a red flag in today's modern mindset, but it wasn't always the mindset in the east. Like, yes, call…
Yes, I agree, there is a difference. For my parent, they did it out of love. Heck, my mom would always cry if she saw me crying. As a disclaimer, I should say I was an athlete and Vovinam student, so I was a pretty physically and mentally resilient kid on top of being rebellious sometimes. Also, a lot of the time, it's just them threatening me, or I straight up run away when they try to if I think it's excessive for whatever my crime was at the time. The few times they actually hit me, I deserved it. Punishments like taking things away from me, putting me in a kneeling timeout, or making me do chores never really worked on me. I think I personally learn best from pain. It's just the question of whether they inflict the pain to me or make me do it to myself (through running, pushups, etc). Given the choice, I probably would have not done the latter so they would have to do it themselves anyway. Aside from my parents, my Vovinam teacher also hit me cause he cared. He was invested in how I turn out as a person because it was his job to build character. I was lucky in that regards because there are also definitely some teachers who hit students cause they having a bad day and need someone to take it out on.

And that's a fair response. I don't disagree with anything you are saying or am really trying to debate it. My reply is just in response to "Is it only a red flag to me" and I was just offering a reason why some people like me would not blink at eye at it or just shrug. Because it's not an abnormal thing is all I am saying.

Is it only a red flag to me that both the parent and the coach beat the main character with a stick not to mention…
Yes, it is a red flag in today's modern mindset, but it wasn't always the mindset in the east. Like, yes, call it out, but also, there should be some understanding of the culture. There is this idea, at least in Vietnam where I am from, that we are an extension of our parents. Our body is not fully our own. It's an outdated thinking, sure, but that is the culture. I know I would've fought anyone who shamed my parents for hitting me. No, not everyone gets to hit me, but people like my parents or adults who I was close to like certain coaches. Basically, what I'm trying to say is personally think there is a lot of factors involve like the relationship (closeness), intent, and consent to be hit, and I know some people will disagree with that but I can only speak from my experience. Funnily, I would've actually preferred in school for my coach to hit me than make me run like 50 laps or do pushups.

I can't really speak to the forced eating part cause asian grandparents will force you eat regardless of sports or dreams. But I do agree that it has to be consentual. It's been a minute since I watched this but I don't think they were doing it maliciously, they thought it was her dream too, until she spoke up.

Title Shut Up: Flower Boy Band Spoiler
I really enjoyed this series. There were a lot of sincere and/or honest moments that I liked. I thought the characters would annoy me just because they were shown at first to be unruly, rebellious troublemakers. But I quickly learn that there is more to each of them than what's on the surface. Our main lead guy, Ji Hyuk, for reason, has to step up as leader to lead Eye Candy to their dream of making it big. His involvement with our female lead Su Ah does cause some issues, but it's really neither of their fault aside from Ji Hyuk not admitting right away that he liked Su Ah. I like Su Ah. She is shown to be a good girl. She is a nice, sincere, and understanding character. She was once a rich girl who is now falling into hard times due to her dad but is shown not to be a spoiled princess. She adapts without complaint. And Ji Hyuk seems aloof at first but is shown to be kind and willing to put aside his pride on several occasions for his group members. As the band leader, he does his best for the group without compromising who they are as a band. Eye Candy, in all, are loyal to one another even when they are critical of or angry at one another. I enjoyed their friendship. They're all good kids despite being troublemakers. They definitely all grew on me. They are flawed and hot-headed, and I disagree with some of their behavior, but overall, I still liked them. In fact, the only significant character that I truly felt annoyed by was Seung Hoon's friend who ambushed Byung Hee and kept instigating trouble with Su Ah. Like bro, leave her alone.

The only criticisms I have with this series is that I wish there was a little more focus on the music. Yes, there is music and although I'm not expecting a musical, I am a huge music lover and just would've loved to see more songs/performances. I also wished we got more of Byung Hee and learned more about him.

I think the thing I liked the most about this series is the little efforts each side makes to show they care throughout the series, moments where they take care of each other or just little acts of affection. It's still frustrating that they were so bad at expressing their feelings in words, but I still appreciated the little gestures. And I don't know how to explain it other than saying that although it was frustrating to see the lack of communication, I wasn't annoyed/angry. Idk. I guess it was more like I feel bad that they don't know how each other feel or I wished they could know? Not sure how to explain it. By the end of the series, neither of them really changed much, but have an understanding of the other's feelings and I can see their little efforts to communicate. And I find that endearing. There's no big moment of resolution or clearing of misunderstandings. The progress is subtle but it's there, and I guess I find some charm and realism in that.
