You are not alone. It was quite abrupt for me too ... hence it was hard for me to be sold on their relationship…
Exactly my point! But even before the fight, it seems as if Hao Du wasn't even on her mind. She knows he's a good fighter, and even sees him as a friend and someone she trusts, yet didn't even think about him fighting for her. But yet immediately after the fight scene she immediately fell for him. Omg if she fell for A'Sun the would be a torture to watch.

Although I enjoyed LYN and ZLS chemistry as a couple, as well as their couple dynamic as Haoyan, there is a flaw…
You're right, and when you put it like that, it's kinda a shallow way to fall for someone. But that's just how she was written I guess so we can't really blame her. Although WK1 made an interesting statement about how Haoyan's relationship was a great contrast to Gesun's.

You have an interesting take on their relationship and I enjoyed reading your perspective on it. You might have a point by saying that before the fight Leyan only liked Hao Du, but ended up falling for him after the fight scene. This scenario probably makes the most sense but still has some flaws because like I mentioned before, I didn't sense any romantic feelings or even some slight crushing from Leyan until after the fight scene. This is probably just due to the poor writing and development in Haoyan's relationship.

For Hao Du, I had initially assumed that he was already in love with her in ep 1 since their were many clues that indicated so. However, his actions later on about placing more importance on finding and killing Chang Ge over finding Leyan was questionable. Even if we argue that he was just performing his duty, we can't deny the fact that it's really weird that he didn't even worry or think about Leyan one bit until he found out that Chang Ge was "dead."

Now if we say that he fell in love with her later on, I would ask when? Since there were no clear points made in any of the scenes when he exactly fell in love with her. Ep 26 made it pretty clear of Hao Du's affections for Leyan as he immediately embraced her after finding her. But if not ep 1, then how did he fall for her? She was missing this whole time. It made no sense. But again this can also be blamed on the writing.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Repetition provides emphasis! Although what you said weren't repetitive at all, they only provided more evidence for my analysis :) Im glad you agree with everything I mentioned Linh! I was worried that I was the only one who thought this way haha.

Despite knowing that it's a typical trope, I still wish they could change it up more. I also don't like how it's always the female characters who are stuck in this type of role. Like I love Leyan's character and her relationship with Hao Du, it was just a bit abrupt and cliche. I used to enjoy these type of tropes myself, but over time I've grown overly tired and bored of them.

You are completely right about Haoyan's relationship being a great contrast to Gesun's. I don't if whether this was intentionally done by the writers or if it was just a mistake on their part. Either way, it had worked out great in the end. Both relationships are great in their own ways and both pairs had great chemistry with each other.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
Leyan's feelings for Hao Du analysis.
Although I enjoyed LYN and ZLS chemistry as a couple, as well as their couple dynamic as Haoyan, there is a flaw in their getting together and becoming a couple that puzzles me. Throughout the drama, we can see Leyan's obvious affections for Shuyu, and it's clearly not the admiration that you would have for a brother like she had told Chang Ge.

Every episode all the way up to ep 42, there hasn't been a single moment where it seems as if Leyan has any kind of romantic feelings for Hao Du. The only thing I can see is that she was warming up to him, and was eventually see him as a friend and trusted confidant that she can confide her thoughts and feelings do. This does not indicate that she has feelings, however, because she would probably tell all of these things to Chang Ge if she were present.

Other scenes that might indicate feelings of affections from Leyan's side are when Hao Du picks her up bridal style and begins to carry. This, however, also does not prove anything for her expression only appears as if she's in shock and is taken back by his actions. Plus the scene only looks romantic because of the dramatic music in the background. In real life, one doesn't always fall for someone just because they carry you.

Back to episode 42, Leyan's shift of feelings towards Hao Du was rather abrupt since up until the very last moment, she was still hoping for it to be Shuyu, and had not once given a second thought about Hao Du. Like even though she considers him as a friend, she didn't even consider asking him to fight for her which is a little puzzling to me. But yet, after the fight scene, all of her love and affections for Shuyu suddenly shifted to Hao Du. It seems as if she just falls for people who save her. For example, she fell for Shuyu when he saved her from drowning, and now fell for Hao Du because he saved her from getting married off. It's not much of a solid foundation for loving someone if. you ask me.

One possible reason is that when she saw Hao Du getting beat up, she finally realizes that she had unconsciously fell for him and only realized her feelings once she was close to losing him. But this possibility is debunked for like I had stated before, there are no evidence what so ever that she had any feelings or romantic thoughts towards Hao Du before. For her, it had always been Shuyu.

Overall, it was just puzzling the way that Leyan fell for Hao Du. There were no evidence or signs of her liking him, and then she suddenly shifts towards liking him and was all lovey dovey with him, while Shuyu was completely forgotten. Usually in these scenarios, she would still at least have lingering feelings for Shuyu, but yet it's as if she never had any feelings for Shuyu to begin with.

Oh and don't even get me started on how Hao Du fell for Leyan, which is an even bigger question mark compared to Leyan falling for Hao Du. But I won't say it in this post because then it'll be too long lol. But if you guys are interested, I can write a whole other post about it :)

Of course, I wanted another firefly scene. Would've been a great parallel to the one in ep 18. A'Sun taking Chang…
hopefully, they might release the full uncut episodes somewhere comedy since TLB is so popular, and we will see if they had included that scene. if not then it's truly a missed opportunity

Maybe a scene where A'Sun is watching Situ Lang Lang and Chang Ge spar. Lang Lang accidentally knocks Chang Ge…
LMAO, maybe I'll write one one day... but not for now. I don't have enough confidence yet xD

I wish they keep:- the Mobei Uncle relationship link with ChangGe - retain CG is part Uighur - didn't kill off…
I kinda of speeded my way through the manhwa, so not too sure about certain details. But I don't think it was Xiao Wu, but rather the girl who was crying over her brother that Leyan had helped. That was originally a part of Chang Ge's character arc that was given to Leyan.

Yes, exactly!! It would've been such a nice ending that wraps up everything nicely!

Oh, yes that is definitely one of our unfulfilled wishes. Also if Sun really kiss her mole near her eye, then…
for now we can only imagine it :,)

In the manhwa, the snow walk scene in Ep 15, Chang Ge walks out to meet A'Sun with her bare feet, it struck to…
Yeah despite the changes from the manhwa, the drama was equally as impactful and both Leo and Raba's acting had made it such a wonderful scene to watch. Definitely one of my favorites from both the manhwa and the drama.

I'm having way too much fun with this lol, but I have another wish! We've seen a short scene of Sun and Chang Ge…
Technically A'Sun didn't engage in much fighting either, since Mujin got his revenge for Mimi by battling Uncle Lei and Sher'er refused to fight. Would've been a great scene to see both Sun and Chang Ge take down Uncle Lei together, but Mujin deserved to be the person who killed him in the end.

I know right? Like it was a snooze fest for most of the whole 3 hours. Even for the performances that I did like, there could've been a bit more effort put into it to make it less boring.

Yeah definitely agree with you. Although it would've made a great storyline, what we got is just as great. We got a true healing story of growth and maturity. A drama that I can watch for comfort whenever I need cheering up. I am glad they decided to take this route in the drama and gave us a happy ending. I wouldn't want to see Raba like that either, I can't bare to see her suffer knowing how hard she already works for her roles. :( And Biao is the actor you're talking about Zhu Yilong? I remember you telling me about this before.

Let's make a thread of unfulfilled wishes! Things you wanted to be in TLB, things you imagined beforehand, things…
I'm having way too much fun with this lol, but I have another wish!

We've seen a short scene of Sun and Chang Ge fighting together in ep 32, but I need more! I want a scene where the two of them ride onto the battlefield together and fight side by side. I feel like they would have a fighting dynamic similar to Percy and Annabeth in PJO series if anyone here has read that lol. But the both of them decked to in full battle gear fighting together, watching each other's backs, and defending each other's weak spots is something I would've loved to see!
