In Dramaland, when someone gets a paper-cut or even a bloody nose, they are rushed to the ER. Here, a woman is burning up with fever and they keep her in some run-down flat? "Thirty years ago...." was 1994, not right after the Korean war, in a war-torn Seoul! There's no phone for DG to call JA to tell his wife where he'll be that night? REALLY? They're acting like this took place in 1959. How stupid do they think we are?

I think I can see where this series is finally going: EA will hook up with MG - All her parents won't approve of her going with a single father; EH defies his parents and sticks with HY; ES defies her parents and sticks with SW. All the kids turn their backs on their parents and go where love leads them. A fitting end for a couple of Harpies and the dimwitted DG. Hopefully they all move out on their own, and the two bitter moms are left staring at their husbands at an empty house.

God Help Us with this 130+ episode mess.

It's hard to imagine a worse female character in a K-drama than JoengSook, who hurt her sister so selfishly. But they managed to do it, with HyeYoon. I can't even imagine a mother having those kind of feelings (or lack thereof) towards her child. I guess it does happen, just don't need to see it on TV. (Although, now that I think about it, the runaway-return Mom in AOME who used her eldest child as spare parts for her youngest is a close second).

Would it be asking too much for Yoo Seung Ho again as her lead? Such natural chemistry between them.

Yup, I've decided to use the period to finally watch "Once Again" instead, and then cross-fingers that the one after this will be fun and logical. I don't mind a "slow-burn" relationship between leads, but have it MAKE SENSE and for God's sake, make sure there's chemistry between the leads. Is that too much to ask?

Believe me, BT, that is in the back of my mind. I just don't trust KBS writers anymore - I've been disappointed now for too many consecutive series at this point. And if you read the synopsis for this show, the "red-flags" are there: they say it's "cheerful" (yeah, right) and mentions "confusion due to family conflicts." OK, I've been to that rodeo too many times now that I'm spooked.

By now, my Watchlist is mostly older, higher-rated rom-coms featuring my fave actresses because I need FUN for entertainment. I have tried LYOL a few times, but every time I turn it on, there is someone yelling at or berating the FL, or some old lady trying to evade capture, or some older couple yelling at each other. It just seems that everyone is unlikable, and I do realize the leads finally confessed and their relationship started. I just don't want to have to go thru that awful journey to get there. The theme of that show (a woman held in service to her family and taken for granted) hits me very hard as it happened in my own life.

The downside of watching the older shows is that the chat rooms for them here are essentially dead. There's no one to share the story with (which is my favorite part of K-Dramas) and any review you write will essentially go unread.

Be that as it may, I am 2/3rd thru watching 2017's "I'm Not a Robot", which is the most profound thing I've ever seen on TV. What started out to be a silly comedy takes a really intense turn and is the most compelling, thought-provoking series I've seen. It's part thriller, part sci-fi, part comedy, part romance, and it does it all really well. The fact that this still so contemporary and addresses current societal issues well BEFORE the Pandemic amazes me.

Roo, I don't want to spoil it too much for you. It was, IMO the best shot and directed set of scenes in the whole series, bar none - funny and clever too. It begins at the end of Ep 92 and continues into Ep 93.

Which makes me think they can't go with the HY-being-pregnant meme to get her together with EH, as there isn't enough time elapsed for her to get any symptoms or need to get an EPT?

One of the women that worked for me was, self-admittedly, a Tiger Mom. She has 2 sons, and the things they went thru....all I could do is sigh.

Well, a lot of familiar faces in the supporting cast, including the kid who plays GaRam.

As the women at work would have said, JA is a "Tiger Mom": Overbearing, Over-expecting, Over-pressuring. A curse upon their sons, a nightmare to their daughters.

That's kind of the signature of this series - it's so disjointed nothing makes much sense. From what I can tell, we have no idea if there have been any timeskips (I think there haven't) and other than Holiday Music around Christmas time, and the brief mention of the Lunar New Year, it SEEMS the show is in "real-time" (give or take a week or so). Between this and the fact they can't keep anyone's age consistent, I've given up trying to apply reasonable-ness to this show.

Ep 104 - Well, we finally get the backstory to the much-debated/discussed topic of SW's lineage. Only took over 100 episodes (sheesh). I'll say this much, they did a good job with KS's makeup to make him look 25+ years younger (although that makeup looked like it weighed 15 pounds). But she still looks the same, not younger. This series could have been so much more coherent if they did all this stuff in the opening episodes and then time-skipped ahead (as they did in Bravo, My Life). Did we ever see the accident happen?

OH well, as far as SW goes, I'm not sure how I feel about them keeping him in the dark all these years? But I guess now that we know, he is eventually going to find out. Will it make much of a difference? I dunno.

I half-expected DG to tell the boys to invite him to drink with them next time, he looked left-out.

As far as the rest of the cast/story, I guess it's just on auto-pilot. We know where the MinGuk drama is going. SW/ES are due to be reunited soon (5 eps away?) The question mark for me is HY/EH (He says they'll get married anyways) and EA. What will they do with her? And if Dancing Grandpa is to be paired with SJ, shouldn't that be starting now?

My Gawd - we still have over a month more of this to go!!!

FWIW, if the weather outside is frightful, I just finished "Love Reset" from last year. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon and it's pacing is a perfect antidote to the meandering of this series.

I really didn't intend to spend my afternoon watching a movie, but the weather outside is crummy, and what the heck - why not? This was fun to watch. SoMin is a doll and doesn't disappoint here either. It was well-cast and although rushed, it isn't hard to follow and the use of on-screen graphics was well-done. I liked it.

I vividly remember when the evil adopted mother slapped BSJ when she threw her out of the house! It was so LOUD, and the comments section went NUTS! That HAD to hurt.

You know, I've been thinking about this, and comparing Seo DongHee (BML) to Yoo EunSung (UF). The similarity in the characters is interesting:

-Working-class girls? CHECK
-Got jobs as interns? CHECK
-Chased after by a rich guy? CHECK
-Fell in love with rich guy? CHECK
-Chased off by parent of rich guy? CHECK (DongHee chased away by his adopted father, EunSung chased off by his Mom)
-She dumps him? CHECK (Dong Hee dumps him after finding out about her brother, Eun Sung dumps him after pressure from his mom)

The big differences are that DongHee's parental figures (her Aunt/Uncle) did not object to her relationship and trusted her judgement. And as a mother who raised her child essentially alone for the first 8 years of his life, DongHee was a tough cookie. And at work, she took NO BS from her overbearing boss-lady when it came to her interfering in her personal matters.

How would DongHee have handled EunSung's role? I'm not sure. I think it would have been more interesting though. I would LOVE for them to introduce DongHee as ES's long-lost twin sister (hey, this show has pulled stupider stunts before) and have DongHee see what was going on and set her straight.

Hell, they've got 10 more episodes, WHY NOT????
