OK, let's relax for a sec. (I have not yet seen Ep 25, yard work this afternoon ran longer than expected).

I too have been concerned at times about the writer(s). But he hasn't truly let me down yet and seems to pull us out of whatever rut he gets them into. And I do like how he deliberately pokes fun at the worn out tropes found in k-dramas. So I still have faith in him/them (I really don't know how many are on the writing team and how much sway the head writer has). He's given us a pace that I've not seen in a weekender and has kept us going. Maybe Ep25 is a breather for a sec at the halfway point?

We know that IF he sticks to formula they will split apart and prolly soon. We have to be ready for that and enjoy the process that will bring them back together, stronger. I'd rather it wasn't JH/SJ that succeeds in splitting them up , but the beauty will be that they will get it in the end when TK/YD reunite stronger than ever (and I admit I'm talking best-case scenario). Less than 10 eps of this, please!!!

At this point (half-way thru) I'm pretty pleased with how things are going and compared to the previous series this is exponentially better. I do believe the writer(s) will not let us down and YLAG the rest of the series....YD/TK are too clearly drawn to let this happen.

Tonight KBS America will air Ep 23 in about an hour. I'll watch that and then do Ep25.

Today's YouTube clips didn't make much sense to me, your summary explains why so much HW/JM/Pharma lady.
It sounds like we're back to the version of YD who thinks "I am out in 2 mos and my priority is to fix your household". sigh........It's like they have 2 different teams writing the show and each one has their take on the characters.

I went and saw the clip you were all referring to about the red dress. His actions were not consistent with someone who's been married and his age. I think his was a 'marriage of convenience' or as they said in THRC, 'a perfunctory marriage'. He was just there forher, and there was no intimacy, which would also explain why it was so easy for her to leave him, much less her own kid.

I think you're right. I wanted to mention it in my rant below, but wasn't sure it was an appropriate word here, hence my phrase 'would have to drag him to bed'. I can't think of what a sorry mess 2 clueless people like he & MR would make as a couple in that regard. They both need someone more 'experienced' first? Otherwise, it would be the blind leading the blind. This is why I don't mind him with HR for a while. He needs to get up to speed. (this is from a guy's perspective, BTW).

I'm taking a pause in watching this but will keep an eye on the comments here as we're all pretty much in agreement regarding the series. I'll wait for the 'wife' to return and then the story should get interesting. I still think this show won't really start until that happens.

And it got me thinking: Maybe they don't know how to bring her back? As unlikely as that sounds it would explain why the show is essentially on hold well past it's sell-by date. While on the surface it seemed the likely (and early favorite here) plot line was that she'd come back for a divorce so she could move on with her new life and family elsewhere. But I'm really intrigued by the scenario proposed a couple of weeks ago ( I forget by whom) where she's discovered by the police and "compelled' to return home to face the family and confess her new life to them so she can get her divorce official and move on.

I think that latter scenario would be really dramatic and finally spice up this series. And maybe the writers are struggling with this decision or last-minute changes have thrown things into disarray. They are probably shooting about 2 weeks ahead of air time so by now the negative feedback regarding the show's pacing has certainly been heard.

Just thinking out loud.

KBS America (which airs this show on a local cable channel one week behind where the current release is) has a new promo for this program. And it's sold as the story of a single father trying to raise a rebellious teenage girl (and isn't that flattering to JD). No mention of romance, etc. I think if they had promoted this show like this from the beginning, we'd have some idea of what we were getting into and I would have decided to pass on it.

I agree with just about everything you said, and as someone from CS & InOk's generation I want the lie to be resolved ASAP before it's exposed by external forces. It's just not right to lie to your parents, especially about something this important, and I can't imagine KBS endorsing that. And this is the source of course of YD's guilt - she knows this is wrong. Because once his folks find out, their first question to TK/YD will be "why did you feel you had to lie about that to us?" I like telling InOk first, under a controlled setting and letting her deal with it and telling those that need to know the truth.
BongMin will have to know the truth at some point, maybe that is best left to DS to figure out.

OK, here goes:

NO NO NO

I’m hoping this is a red herring, or flat out BS meant to trip us up. I don’t want to believe it and can’t because it’s out of character for the show. To wit:

SYNOPSIS:
TK ignoring his request to break up and the chairman going to YD is a similar situation we saw in Bravo My Life when the same actor (ironically) asked the FL to breakup with the ML (his adopted son – sound familiar?) based on a misunderstanding. So there is precedent in Dramaland. But why would this character (chairman) act on a rumor? Who could he possibly talk to that he would believe without summoning both TK & YD together to the office to discuss this? He’s been warned about not trusting SJ, so it couldn’t come from her. And that HE would do it without bringing in his wife? Sorry, no dice. And why make her split up right away when she has her lease due in 2 mos time? Would InOk be all right with this? I think not. He COULD just tell her to just move out on schedule and not look back. Now that MAY have happened and the post-meeting stress induced the fainting & bleeding, but again why HIM unilaterally?

TRYING TO THINK CLEARLY:
We all know a couple of things:
1) A split up is inevitable. It would most likely be due to an unstoppable external force because after 2 mos TK/YD would be even more inseparable and he’d have torn up her lease. So SOMETHING would cause them to split apart to test their love and strengthen it. But they would find out how much they have come to be a part of each other and rush to reunite. Sticking to formula, this HAS to happen.
2) At some point the lie will be exposed.
- Either (preferably) out of guilt, they are forced to confess to their parents while declaring that they now truly love each other and are ready to welcome Real as its parents.
- Or unpreferably, because they’ve been exposed. How this confession is received is anyone’s guess and we’ve discussed it last week.

We DON’T know what order these 2 items will occur in. (Will they confess out of guilt, causing the parents to demand they split? Or, will they be forced to split and then confess out of desperation to get approval to stay together?)

This twitter rumor addresses both points, but it doesn’t seem right. Again, the Chairman of all people? Especially with his strained relationship with TK? And unlike Bravo My Life, which had no one in the adopted ML’s corner to stand up for him against the father, here there is InOk’s fondness for them both. Wouldn’t a desperate TK rush to his mother to try to spare their relationship and intercede with her husband before he can go to YD? What would empower CS to unilaterally split them up? Is he trying to make it look voluntary on their part to spare InOk and his mother’s intervention?

Even more disturbing is the specter of her bleeding and fainting. She’s passed out a few times before and been OK. Sure, we get that. But if she’s bleeding and the unthinkable happens are we back to our speculation from last month where she does miscarry? If this happens, then the original premise for their relationship is gone and there would be “no reason” for them to continue as a couple (as seen by outsiders from his/her family) - Only their love for each other that has developed in the meantime. It also eliminates the DNA testing merry-go-round that would be inevitable at some point once the Real’s born. Could her miscarriage (induced by the stress from the meeting with the Chairman) be the reason for a split since they wouldn’t have the baby to bond them? This opens the door to a lot of possibilities, many of them I’d rather not think about.

I prefer to vote “no” to this rumor, but I realize that something like this IS bound to happen. Because I don’t think they will separate voluntarily now -they’ve gone too far in their love for each other. It pains me to think that SJ or JH will successfully part them.

I wrote you a 600 word rebuttal to this scenario...but I dunno if it's based more on hope or a writer's analytical view.

Don't worry about a thing, take your meds and bless you for your patience and willingness to help us here. I know how you feel, we've all invested too much time in this series and have gotten nothing in return. I'd be happy if they were playing it for laughs, even. OH well.

Dont feel sorry. I can't take this series anymore, it's eating my brain. And I had to vent yesterday because I'm tired of our collective intelligence being insulted by this series, not to mention they are wasting our time. This is 50 episodes at best, and they think they can just get away with filler after filler. Sigh.
I think the key to success to a series is that the audience has to care for the characters (at least some of them). But there really isn't anyone I care for, except for KS sister in law, who got a raw deal...and at best, I just feel sorry for her.

What is it with this show? They keep turning everybody into disagreeable characters. The character development (which should have been done 30 episodes ago) continues and downhill at that. Now his dad is a total dirtbag, HR is beyond having a crush and Dong & Son are suddenly caring about the aunt???? SHEESH.

The only consistency I see is MR is still totally clueless and KS is a glutton for punishment.

And if he wasn't interested in HR, WHY IS HE AT HER PLACE PEELING FRUIT FOR HER? You KNOW he went there on his own. Frankly, if he wasn't slightly interested he wouldn't be there. Talk about sending mixed signals!

GO FOR IT, HORANG!!! I don't care anymore...she's a damn sight better for him than his pining for that *#!%&@ "wife" that dumped him with her kid 10 years ago. OK, HR's flaky, and did try getting him to a hotel when they were both tipsy, but at this point, whatever (and frankly, with him being how he is, the woman in his life is going to HAVE to drag him to bed anyways!) HR's still hot for her age, does actually care about Jandi (and has known her since birth), has a successful (small) business and her bro is his best friend. How many other women are going to be attracted to a single man with a barely-in-control pubescent daughter? TALK ABOUT A RED FLAG!!!

KS needs to knock it off with the virtual monk attitude and live. And if it's with HR then fine. Join the rest of civilzation and get out of your leechy in-laws, get your dumb kid under control and marry the woman who has known you since you were young. YOU COULD DO A LOT WORSE. And put us viewers out of our misery waiting for something to happen that we can't imagine ever happening (KS + MR)

PS - and if you think we're unhappy with the pace and development of this show, look at this doofus writer's reviews of his previous series UNASKED FAMILY here on the MDL discussion board and you'll find familiar complaints. How did this guy get another writing gig?????

This was the most emotionally draining episode for me in a long time. I need a day or two before I watch it again to see what I missed.

I can't recall an episode lately where Baek Jin Hee hasn't had a scene where she cried. Poor thing, thank goodness she's good at it.
