This drama was soo addicting for the first half, but now...I just can't get into it...Like I was so addicted that…
You've got to be kidding. The Rong family have been like that right from the beginning. The MC have been playing games with each other right from the beginning. The plot is getting even more thrilling at ep 30, I can't wait to see the rest.
So throwing an innocent, wounded person into the water is typical female behavior, then?
Two wrongs don't make a right. The fact that Yunshu is awful does not justify Bai blackmailing her into going with him against her will. His behaviour is morally wrong too.
gradually sink into being an antagonist because of this 'blind' girl, and little by little, he will lose his way.…
I also think that's the most likely outcome, particularly since he has already threaten to tell on her if she doesn't give up on her schemes and accompanies him to the capital.
Why is the rating for this drama stuck on 8.5? This is a 9 at the very least. One of the most solid, consistent, interesting, intriguing and tightly put together plots I've come across in a while; superb acting from all the cast, with a very special mention to most impressive Hou Ming Hao; masterful direction; perfect pace; beautiful photography and lighting. This series is going to be winning awards. I'll say it again, 9 is the bare minimum.🏆
Let me add to this because your making sense. I don't get how the 3 demons who cultivated for 1,000s of years…
I know, it is ridiculous how the 3 demons were killed by Bing Zhu. About his sister who ends up sharing his girlfriend's body, did the writers need to throw in that tasteless twist? Yuck!
This, I don't exactly dislike the Seven Tan, but I find I'm particularly picky about her characters. Loved her…
I also love the FL in Glory, and so do I the ML. Both HMH and GB are nailing their characters, they are flourishing under their beautiful acting. The storyline is solid too.
I finished this drama yesterday. I can't believe I plodded through 40 eps only to have HY sacrifice himself for eternity for no actual good reason, since about everybody else had done considerably more evil than him and they got away with it.
Storyline: Ruined, that's the most apt adjective I can think of. What could have been a great and original story turned out to be a collection of old, recycled cliches. It's full of holes, it strays into entirely unrelated subplots (several episodes in which they decide to play detective and investigate a family of chipmunks), then the ML disappears all together for a few eps. The ending absolutely sucks, how can the writers give such a cruel destiny to the one guy who actually had a good heart?
The actors and characters: Hou Ming Hao. He's been a pleasure to watch as the great actor he is, and gorgeous to boot. His character, Hong Ye, is underdeveloped and even a bit boring, this being the script's fault. Seven Tan. I have to say I'm not fond of her as an actress, but I have seen her in other series that I've enjoyed ('Go Ahead' comes to mind). As Xiao Yao, I think she's badly miscast. I can think of several other actresses who would have brought the character alive, but she was just either frowning or grinning and trying to sound cute and, in my view, she's no match for Hou Ming Hao. Her character Xiao Yao is impatient, whimsical, biased and acts on the spur of the moment without a thought for the consequences of her actions, to the point that I think she's toxic to Hong Ye; an unclouded soul, she certainly isn't. She also wears the most idiotic hairdo I have seen in a while. As for romance, never in my life would I have thought I would find a kissing scene with Hou Ming Hao tepid at best, but this is what happened here, zero chemistry. I was getting siblings vibes from them rather than romantic attraction. Wang Duo. He delivers a good, credible performance as Bing Zhu the Demon Slayer. His character, alas, is one of the most incoherent (and there are quite a few) in this story. Bing Zhu strives to seek justice, but his moral compass is all over the place and his obsession with revenge is pathological to the point that he tries to murder Hong Ye immediately after HY saves his life, just because HY is a demon and regardless of the fact that he has done no evil to him. He's also hell bent on following the orders of the corrupt emperor on grounds that he's a soldier and he must obey, despite already knowing the emperor's evil intentions. By the end of it, when he realises all the evil he's done and apologises, he's the one who should have offered to get himself sealed in the mirror, which would have suited his dark, tragic character and the whole story much better than getting a free ride as he does. The characters of the 3 great demons are just wasted. They prance about a bit and do some evil in the 10,000 years ago cycle, they get jealous of Hong Ye and torture him because they fancy Xiao Yao, Hong Ye tricks them and seals them (Xiao Yao then goes and kills Hong Ye, WTF?!!). 10,000 years later they get unsealed by another evil demon, do some more prancing about and, when they are about to turn their lives around and start doing positive things, they get killed far too easily by Bing Zhu. And that's that.
Direction: Generally speaking most flying scenes in cdramas are very smoothly done, they actually look like they are flying. In this particular series, there are awkward movements from actors that you can tell are hanging from invisible cables. The pace is also painfully slow for half the series.
Costumes: Fabulous, particularly the wedding attire and Hong Ye's robes.
Ending: Abso-freaking-lutely terrible. The Yuli spring cannot be destroyed, so Hong Ye volunteers to seal the Kunlun mirror within his body, which means he will get forever imprisoned inside the spring in a state of suspension, neither alive nor dead, without dispersing but conscious. Xiao Yao's reaction is to look at him stunned and start crying when it's too late and he's already gone. She then learns to master the skill of going back in time and gets herself into this illusion where she re-lives her life with Hong Ye in a loop. Basically, she takes care of getting her own happiness while he, on the other hand, stays sealed inside the spring forever, 'atoning' for being the one soft hearted guy in the whole series. The writers deserve a heavy fine for this atrocious ending.
I am aware this is more of a review than a comment, but the former would require a rating and I cannot bring myself to give it a low one because I loved Hou Ming Hao's performance, so I won't be rating it.
In the end it wasn't Hong Ye who was bad. Those three great demons? They're telling us that what Hong Ye did was…
Hong Ye didn't create the Yuli spring, he found it. The spring was created by the gods and cannot be destroyed, that's why HY decided to seal it within his body.
Agreed. He planned to get close to her with his crazy planned. But I don't think he executed it yet. Or else,…
Not necessarily all in government, but quite a few powerful people. Remember the letter Jiang Lei got from Minister Xu, his protector, warning him to be careful. Then Jiang Lei told Liang the news that he had been appointed to investigate the Yang wife's murder had caused quite a stir in the capital, so he's got powerful enemies. Some other character may balk at the difficulty and danger to himself, but not Jiang Lai; He's the most resolute, fearless and cunning of them all. IMO this makes excellent material for plot development and, going by the general mood and main characters, my guess is this series will have a satisfactory ending.
Or simply the plot is very weak, because the writers did poor job. There are so many illogical decisions made…
Seemingly illogical. This drama has a big thriller/whodunnit side to it and looks like there will be more than one major twist, of which we've just seen the first one. We are only on ep 12 out of 36. It's a fast paced drama, there is still a lot of developments left. Far from being weak, it's one of the most intriguing plots I've seen for some time.
Agreed. He planned to get close to her with his crazy planned. But I don't think he executed it yet. Or else,…
Precisely. And Magistrate Lang is dodgy. In ep 12 he tells Jiang Lei how it was all his own plan and he's been trying to contact him ever since he was brought into the Rong mansion, but it was impossible because JL was always accompanied whenever he went out. So, why did Lang react like he'd seen a ghost when he first came face to face with JL? I don't buy it.
