Dang. Only 4 episodes in, and I'm trying so hard to not get attached to any of the two male leads. It's difficult not to form a preference already, but I have the sinking feeling that the one I'm leaning towards has a high chance of not being the one she ends with. 😩 Also trying to keep from scrolling too much through the comments since people can be so rude with untagged spoilers. 😒
ISTG I don't understand viewers who said GSJ & SGQ stole the show, like did we watch the same drama? SGQ was so…
I agree with everything you stated except for liking the ending. The way I shouted when I realized the drama was really over after that last scene! 😵💫
That was the most "non-ending" ending I have ever encountered in a drama. Felt like a slap in the face after all that time and investment spent watching.
Other than that, this was a well plotted and acted drama, each character, both main and supporting delivered their roles.
I must say that the characters that irked me the most have to be Shangguan Qian and Gong Yuan Zhi, though the latter sort of redeemed himself eventually. For Shangguan Qian on the other hand, her constant scheming and lies, and mainly the way she spoke just made her a character that grated on my nerves and there seemed to be no redeeming quality to her.
Loved the dynamic of Gong Zi Yu and Yun Wei Shan . He being more openly affectionate and making his interest known, while she is restrained, guarded, and cautious, always calculating every word, every move. There's a hyper-vigilance about her as someone who always has to be on guard for open and hidden threats. The bond they form is an endearing one despite there not being much romantic scenes or physicality being the two, I enjoyed how protective they became of each other.
As for Gong Shang Jue, he is a character I didn't know what to truly make of for a majority of the drama. For the most part of the drama, his actions seemed to contradict initial impressions of him being about nothing else but dedicated to protecting the Gong family by eliminating all threats whether immediate or potential, and not doing anything that would jeopardize the clan due to his own selfish interests or personal feelings. We eventually came to understand why it appeared that way and I can appreciate him more for that.
Overall, this was an engaging and intriguing drama though there were parts that needed more fleshing out and more clarity especially as to the family lines of the Gong. It certainly got confusing finding out the once we thought are siblings aren't siblings, and the ones that are actually siblings you can't even tell that they are. 😩
P.S. Am I the only who didn't feel the chemistry between Gong Shang Jue and Shangguan Qian, and couldn't buy into them as a couple? Putting aside the fact that from beginning to end there was no honesty in their so called relationship, if it can be called that, did they even like each other as a person?
This drama was a chore to get through. I can't pinpoint the exact issue (i.e acting, writing, directing...all of the above?). However, have zero expectations and view this drama as a a way to pass time.
I'm only on episode 8 and I am struggling to like the drama and the leads. It is hard to root for any specific character because so far none of them come across as particularly "good" or "nice", maybe aside from Gu Qing, who seems to be okay thus far.
The female lead so far is petty, prideful, stubborn and has a somewhat vindictive nature to her. She's always dashing headlong into a fight she barely ever wins. On the other hand, the male lead is a liar, a thief and not very honorable. The so called righteous sect as always seem to be just vying for power and position.
This drama is trying me. Someone tell me it gets better and that the characters become more likeable? 😩
This was unfortunately underwhelming and started to drag after some time. Can't quite put my finger on what the major issue with this drama was, because the leads and supporting cast can act.
This 8.0 scoring is very disrespectful. This drama deserves at least an 8.7 score. Storyline, acting, execution, cinematography, it all checks. Is it 100% perfect? No. But it is definitely deserving of a higher scoring than this.
Kind of sick and tired that childish, immature antis are behind why the rating for this drama is not accurately reflective. There should be a way to ban such individuals from MDL completely by their IP address so this foolishness can stop.
Not a fan of ambiguous endings and hate that many Cdrama directors tend to go this route. However, after doing some digging around concerning Mirror of Twin Cities (I haven't watched it), which takes place after the events of the Longest Promise, it becomes clear that Shi Ying really does come back. The biggest clue/confirmation of this is the existence of Bai Ying as she is the descendant of Shi Ying and Zhu Yan. Shi Ying will need to be alive for them to have a child. It is kind of evident Zhu Yan did not conceive before his sacrifice against Xuyao. So that means he would need to have returned afterwards for there to be a descendant of theirs.
Currently watching the drama on Netflix where I notice it lists there being a total of 43 episodes. On WeTV, however, it lists 40 episodes and I noticed the episodes on WeTV are shorter than the one on Netflix. 🤔
Drama #307:I don't have much to say about this one, the couple romance is awesome. The villain is great. The schemes…
LOL at the last sentence. But yes. I lost count of how many times I said something was stupid as the drama progressed due to the ridiculousness of it. Plot induced stupidity is the worst.
I've not seen this drama yet, so I can't speak to it specifically, but I agree with your problem with rating something…
Reposting this from another comment I made, while there can never be a truly objective way for a person to rate a drama, it should always be fair and honest. That's the most important factor. To do otherwise is disingenuous.
I agree with what you have said. There are times when I do not connect with a character but still find truth and…
And what you stated is exactly how a drama should be rated. You're right that it should be based on execution of the story, the acting, the flow, how well the actors are able to make the audience connect to their characters, etc. Not on whether a person likes a particular actor/actress. That's just plain stupidity to put it bluntly. While there can never be a truly objective way for a person to rate a drama, it should always be fair and honest.
Going on episode 27 now and I can honestly say that the rating here for this drama is not only not a true reflection of the quality of the drama, but it is downright disrespectful. This drama is very well done both in story and acting.
I find it to be extremely dishonest in character and behavior when people go out of their way to intentionally rate a drama low simply because they don't "like" an actor whom they don't know nor have they met. It's such a pathetic and childish behavior not to speak of disgusting and despicable. I can never understand why people who behave in such a way exist. For folks who didn't know better they would see the rating and probably be hesitant to watch the drama. Fortunately, I have seen enough of Xiao Zhan's work to know what incredible actor he is. Sometimes you don't need to say much, your work and character will speak for you.
A nice drama that gives a little bit of every thing. The rating should certainly be higher. This drama is a good watch for those who enjoy a good plot along with uncovering mysteries layer by layer. You'll laugh, get angry, maybe even cry and/or facepalm at certain points. Nonetheless a good watch to pass the time.
Me!!! A lot of scenes!!! Like same scene, glued one after another.
There's a scene with Yanhui, right after she became the Lady of Dark Aura, and she went to Qingqiu (I think that's how it's spelled). She is speaking to the old man Brush Spirit, and she has the mark on her forehead from becoming the Lady of Dark Aura, but the mark seems to disappear when her friends come in and she's facing them talking, but it reappears in a close up of her face in the same scene, then disappears again and reappears. I facepalmed at such a lack of attention to detail.
This was mildly entertaining and a way to pass time. I can't pinpoint on any one thing for why this drama was lacking for me. While the premise of the story had a lot of potential if done right, the execution just wasn't there and it failed to move me. It is unfortunate because I was very intrigued by the plot and really wished it was able to deliver.
Am I the only one noticing the continuity issues in this drama? Sometimes it is within the same scene and so glaringly obvious to be a facepalm moment. 😬

Hope the remaining episodes are good too! Of to a good start.
