I do think the villain’s story was well written too, probably because it was closely tied to the lead’s journey. Although I liked Linger, she’s still my favorite supporting character because of how she was written.
As for the Four Vulnerables and the Emissary, I honestly found them quite ignorant they didn’t step in simply because it was the lead’s tribulation or the director cut them out 😑. I also think the limited number of episodes held things back a bit.
The writing was good, but for a xianxia drama, it definitely needed more episodes. yeah, I agree the actor who played Zhang Suan is getting type casted, hopefully he gets roles with better characters,

You don't need to push yourself to keep watching if it’s not clicking with you. The pacing is intentional it’s a slow burn because the director chose to take the character’s trauma seriously rather than glossing over it. At the point you’re at, they’ve only just gotten together, and there’s still a lot to unfold before the full revelation comes.
