That said, the original commenter is definitely over-exaggerating by calling them “professional actors". Neither PanPan nor Lion would really be considered professional actors; they just post cute, short skits on their Douyin accounts at the most part.

Yeah, that’s true most of the time, but after Love Alarm I don’t fully trust it anymore 😅 That drama really threw me off because the FL ended up with the SML. Ever since then I’ve had doubts in every drama that has a love triangle. Now I’m always thinking “what if the writer actually switches it up this time?” You never really know what they’ll decide to do.

True, but it’s nothing new; it’s been just as bad in previous years. This year just felt more annoying though, especially the one in Our Universe. I’d say at least 1 out of every 2 romantic K-dramas has a love triangle at this point. It’s just how it is, sadly. It’s basically the easiest way to add drama and tension to a romance without having to think up more complicated story problems.

I don’t think men and women are treated exactly the same either. There are definitely different standards and pressures, especially for actresses. I just don’t think it’s as simple as one side having it easy while the other gets all the hate. I’ve seen both male and female leads dragged for their looks, just in different ways. But yeah, I’m glad we agree on the main thing. Going after anyone’s appearance doesn’t really add anything to the conversation about the drama.
