Guys, who's the guy with the (very likely) engagement ring in the preview? I can't recognize whose hand it is, I'm bad at stuff like this lol.

I really hope it's not Ji Pyung but Do San getting ahead of himself again. If it's Ji Pyung, then one of the theories here will probably become true. We can already see from the preview that Dal Mi and Ji Pyung will grow closer. I really don't want them to get together just for Dal Mi to ditch Ji Pyung for Do San in the end.

If anything, the writer/director really have a hand at creating beautiful 1st episodes. Both While You Were Sleeping…
That's true, they had wonderful first episodes. It's really sad that it has turned into such a mess now.

The way they made Ji Pyung find out about Grandma's eyes was really pathetic. But it's not like I didn't see that coming lol.

Some things can't change just like NDS's behavior and attitude.
Lol, yeah, he has become so predictable. I was so sure he would punch Ji Pyung for a nonsense reason and it really happened. At least he stays true to his character which I can't say about some other characters lol.

True, lol. They just had to restore our hopes for the wait till the next episodes, didn't they? I think I see a pattern here: Saturdays: crushing hopes, Sundays: restoring hopes.

I have to say, after lowering my expectations for this drama A LOT, I'm almost satisfied with today's episode…
Things I liked about today's episode:
- Ji Pyung regaining his confidence for the moment when he faced Yong San and defending his actions towards his brother.
- Dal Mi not dragging Ji Pyung into why she's breaking up with Do San.
- In Jae's character growth: her showing true concern to Dal Mi and telling the Sandbox CEO the truth about the girl on the swing.
- Dal Mi accepting that she's not yet CEO material and deciding to work for In Jae.

Team Ji Pyung, I don't want to give us false hopes again haha, but I noticed a clue that speaks for Miji endgame. Every time Dal Mi and Ji Pyung eat together, it's always noodles. Even Ji Pyung points that out in ep. 12 and asks Dal Mi why they're always eating noodles. And in Korea noodles are being eaten at weddings because they symbolize longevity.

If this clue wasn't intended, why is there so much focus on the noodles that even Ji Pyung points it out?

Any thoughts on why there was no rainbow in the epilogue? Does it mean that Do San messed up so much that there's no return or is the writer only teasing us again?

Title Start-Up Spoiler
Spoilers for ep. 12 below.
So here's what happened:
- Ji Pyung rushes over to 2STO but misses Dal Mi and Do San who have already signed the contract
- Everyone is getting ready to leave for the US. Dal Mi's mom reassures Dal Mi that she'll take care of Grandma.
- Do San's mom basically takes over Ji Pyung's previous role and gives her son tips on how to deal with Dal Mi for the relationship to work out. Dal Mi and Do San talk on the phone all night long until they fall asleep.
- Do San waits in front of Dal Mi's house the next morning and pretends it's a coincidence when Dal Mi comes out. Dal Mi sees through it but likes it. They make plans for Do San's upcoming birthday.
- Dal Mi runs to In Jae to boast about the deal with 2STO. In Jae expresses her doubts about the deal and her concern for Dal Mi. Dal Mi doesn't believe in her intentions and only sees it as jealousy.
- Alex fires Dal Mi and Sa Ha and reveals his intention to discontinue Noongil (but pretends it's the headquarters that want it so). The entire SST team is angry at Yong San for stopping Ji Pyung but then Yong San reveals Ji Pyung's "true nature" by revealing that he killed his brother. Everyone is shocked and right at this moment Ji Pyung arrives after hearing what happened to SST. Dal Mi asks him what all this is about and Ji Pyung responds: I'm really sorry for what happened to your brother, but I had to tell him those things back then. I only did my job.
- Ji Pyung tells Do San and Dal Mi they're to blame for what happened to SST and there's nothing that can be done about it now. Do San and Dal Mi start crying. Ji Pyung leaves and Do San runs after him. Do San asks Ji Pyung: Is that all you have to say now after giving us such a big scar? Then he punches Ji Pyung. Ji Pyung punches back and thus a fight ensues.
- After the fight, Ji Pyung tells Do San that the deal with 2STO actually isn't even that bad and that he should just forget about Noongil and that it wasn't a business that they could have maintained for a long time anyway. Do San starts to beg Ji Pyung for help. Ji Pyung is baffled and asks: First you punch me and then you ask me for help? Then Do San tells him about Grandma's eyes.
- Ji Pyung goes to Grandma and we get that crying scene everyone has been waiting for. Grandma calls him "Good Boy" again and Ji Pyung breaks down, saying that he's not a good boy at all, that he's just giving scars to others all the time and boasting about being a hotshot.
- Dal Mi returns home and sees Ji Pyung coming out of her house. She asks what happened to his face and he explains that he fell down. Then she says he must be hungry and they end up eating noodles again. Ji Pyung apologizes for being harsh earlier and Dal Mi reassures him that he didn't hurt her and that she recognizes that he only spoke the truth.
- It's Do San's birthday. Dal Mi asks Do San what happened to his face and he explains that he fell down. Dal Mi and Do San go to a fancy restaurant. Do San explains to Dal Mi how he wants to save SST but Dal Mi doesn't even pretend to listen. She tells him that he should leave for the US but he stays stubborn and doesn't want to. Dal Mi begs him to not make her into a pathetic person. She tells him that he isn't the Do San from the letters and that she isn't his dream and walks off.
- Another crying scene from Do San.
- Sandbox CEO tells Dal Mi that In Jae told her the truth about the girl on the swing and tells her about her fond memories with Dal Mi's dad.
- Dal Mi is searching the internet for job offers and discovers a hiring post from Injae Company.
- The SSTs guys are getting on the plane to the US.
- Ji Pyung sees Dal Mi back in Sandbox and smiles. The episode ends with In Jae asking Dal Mi during the job interview why she's applying.
- Epilogue: We're back to the scene when Dal Mi and Do San break up. It's raining afterwards and Do San recalls how Dal Mi wrote in one of her letters about how it's worthwile to walk in the rain because you get to see a rainbow in the end. Thus, Do San walks in the rain without an umbrella. When the rain stops, he looks up to the sky, but there's no rainbow to be seen. He breaks out in tears.

Most people here are quick to blame the writers. Without them there would be no Start-Up. The complains are really…
If I write a script, then this script wouldn't exist without me either. So, should everyone be thankful that my script exists (even if it's just bad) and don't dare to criticise it?

Edit: We're not hating on the writer as a person, we're just criticising her work. I don't see anything wrong with that. Imagine we'd put her work on a pedestal and only praise it endlessly. The writer would never know what she did wrong and do the same mistakes in her next works again and again. How sad would this be? Of course she won't read our comments here but just speaking in general, criticism is very necessary for a writer to grow.

Sadly, I remember from another drama that in Korea you must be married to be allowed to adopt children. I've never…
As I said already, I'm not sure about the details since I only learned about this through another drama (Oh My Baby btw, just in case you're curious) but I don't think that wealth plays a role here. The character in Oh My Baby wasn't that poor either, although not super rich. I think it's more about the entitiy of a family and that the child might miss either a mom or a dad. Furthermore, if the child is raised only by one person, the child might be left alone too often while its mom or dad is working etc.

Just to clarify, this is not my personal opinion. I believe even singles can create all the conditions for a child to grow up being loved and not missing anything. I just think that this is likely the reasoning why the law doesn't allow singles to adopt children.

I just had a thought. For HJP to end up with only the grandma as a "family member" would be depressing, she's old…
Sadly, I remember from another drama that in Korea you must be married to be allowed to adopt children. I've never looked up this particular topic, but I don't think it would have been mentioned in this other drama if it weren't a fact.
