Until episode 5 and its still a yawn fest. The script pace is slow, the dialogs are long and meaningless. Fighting…
And the camera team!!! I don't know, but they didn't get a single sharp shot. All scenes look kind of blurred and they barely managed to focus on a face and keep the camera steady. Awful! Not to mention the cheap plastic settings...
If not for the actors, I'd already have left the whole thing drop to the floor. So many talented actors and actresses wasted for this less than medicore production. It's a shame... :(
idk why but the guy with eyepatch, his acting in this drama reminds me of anime villain acting XD
Wei Bing Hua. <3 <3 <3 He's a wonderful actor and he's super cute without the pirate look. ;) Especially in "Water Margin", "Emperor Shun", "General and I", "Advance Towards the Fire" and "Nezha". Actually, he's always cute. (I love him, I confess!!!) He's well trained in martial arts and horseback riding and he's a true sweetheart who's able to be very goofy at times..
I mean Yibo character supposed to be 16 also and doesnt look like it.. dont see people saying anything about that.
It's the first time, I see Wang Yibo in a drama, and I like him, but I was honestly and positively surprised how mature he looks for his young age in this role. I don't blame the actors that they don't fit into their roles at 100%. I think, they got chosen by their popularity and not because of their chemistry. They all do a really good job, but when I found out that it's the same director like for "Princess Agents", I got skeptical. I remember, ZLY was totally furious about him not having told her that they would only film the first part of "Princess Agents" and that she felt tricked into the production, by him. And she still answerd the call when he asked her to work with him again???
It is very meh indeed so far but am only in the 2nd episode. I couldn't agree more that ZLY shouldn't be playing…
Same here. Episode three for me, today. But you are right, I had the same feeling about the pace and and also the cuts. They were extremely visible at times. But, yes, it's a drama, I won't drop. At least no as long as all my fave actors' characters are still alive. ;)
i’ve been wondering what the chemistry between WYB and ZYL would be like despite the 10 year age gap. I saw…
Wang Yibo a cute young man and if he takes good care of himself he can become a really good actor in the years to come. Zhao Liying is definitely a sweet one, I just don't think, she should still play teen-girl characters. It simply doesn't fit any longer. It's time for her to think about the more grown-up characters. Especially as she's of the perfect age, now, to cover roles from the mid twenties to the mid thirties. She doesn't need the teen-girl roles any longer. She can play real women, now.
well since you aren't being forced to watch it, might as well drop it
Sorry, I can't drop it! I need screencaps of some of my fave actors, who perform in this series. It's a loyalty thingy, a duty against a bunch of actors who are sworn brothers on and off screen.
LOL I'm with you, smacking this drama will get us roasted for sure. Not just Zong Feng Yan, I like Dong Xue but…
Wang Yibo is cute, I have to admit this, but they should either have cast him with a FL of his age or have made him the second male lead.
Chen Ruo Xuan is way more what I imagined the ML to be. I already liked him in "Novoland: Castle in the Sky - 1" and also in "Evil Minds" and I still think, he'd have been the better male lead in "Novoland: Eagle Flag" as well...
I like Zhao Li Ying, but she simply looks too feminine, now, two much like a beautiful woman and not like a 17 year old girl anymore. It's a fact. She IS a woman, now, so, it's time to cast her as a woman and not like a teen girl any longer.
No need to say, I really love Wang Chun Yuan. He never fails to amuse me. And Wei Bing Hua as a bad guy, this time, with the pirate like eye-patch - whaaa! He's such a sweetheart. And when Geng Le made his first entrance, I almost fell off my sofa. He's hot!!! Still!!!
Even though, I'm not 100% into this series - the veterans like Geng Le, Hu Bing, Zong Feng Yan, Jing Gang Shan or Wei Bing Hua are more than enough reason for me to watch till the end...
So far, so average. Nothing that knocked me off my feet, yet.
I felt no chemistry amongst the main cast so far, although, I think, Chen Ruo Xuan would have been the better choice for Xie Yun, but that might be only me.
Sadly, I also don't buy that Zhao Liying's character is supposed to be somewhat about 16 or 17 years old. Sorry! Even with a lot of imagination, it doesn't work for me. And to see Zong Feng Yan, who's of the same age like ZLY's husband Feng Shao Feng, 42, play her father, doesn't help either with making this feel more credible.
I love Wang Chun Yuan as Yu Lao, but the writers weren't all too creative here, as it seems, making Yu Lao a slightly older copy of Master Ban / Ban Dashi, whom Wang Chun Yuan portrayed in "The Legend of Qin" in 2015.
The CGI is awful, especially if one has watched a number of series with gorgeous outdoor settings, lately, and I can't help, but the whole thing, the performances included, looks and feels totally uninspired and listless - and, no, I don't care if the hardcore fans will roast me or tar & feather me. There is no passion in acting at all, so far, and I really hope, this will gain some more speed in the episodes to come.

I hope, you'll enjoy these dramas as much as I did. Maybe, you'd like to give me some feedback about them, one day. So far, enjoy some blessed holidays and a peaceful change of the years.

Welcome back. ;) "Qin Dynasty 4" or "Qin Dynasty Epic" as it's named, now, if truly epic and, yes, it's on YT with subs. Other great dramas are "The Orphan of Zhao", "Legend of Chu and Han", "The Great Revival", "Ming Dynasty in 1566"... "Bloody Romance" is so cool! Hard to believe it's a low budget production. Loooove it!!! As for "Fuyao" - I'm not really into Yang Mi, so, I must be in a really desperate state and mood to watch anything she's involved in... ;)

Well, if you want a really good c-drama, you should watch "The Longest Day in Chang'an" or "Shaolin Wendao" or the newly released "Qin Empire 4: Qin Dynasty Epic".
Barely! Emperor Zhu Wen (Zhu Gui), Zhu Youwen (Prince Bo) & Zhu Yougui were historical Emperors and Princes of…
Egypt has always been my dad's fave. He often said, he'd have loved to meet Imhotep or Ramses II. or Hatshepsut. Mom always had a soft spot for the Vikings and Russia. My faves are the Roman Empire and ancient China (till the end of the Ming). If I could timetravel, I'd love to meet Roman writer, satirist and Arbiter Elegantiarum Gaius Petronius.

I've downloaded quite a bunch of really good c-drama series. Some, I'm rewatching on a regular base, some, I'll still have to explore. There are also numerous amazing actors and actresses, I'm following - none of them flower boys or little idol girls or anything like that. It also helps, not to care about high ratings. If I see, what dramas get an 8, 9 or 10 here on MDL, I must always be careful not to fall off my sofa laughing. If that rom-com crap is worth an 8, 9 or 10 some really good dramas would deserve a 15!!!

Don't you worry. You're not alone! I'm all with you! The first two episodes seemed great to me, but then the whole thing simply jumped down the cliff, for me. No matter what caused it - the censors, the production team, the screenwriters - this series was not worth the wait. And, same as you, I'm surely not the audience this is targeted at.
1. Shawn Dou as Yan Xun, being the true heart of the series.
2. Wang Yan Lin as Yuwen Huai, being a villain between being dangerous and funny.
I don't know, but they didn't get a single sharp shot.
All scenes look kind of blurred and they barely managed to focus on a face and keep the camera steady.
