The censoring is exactly what turned the whole thing into a mess, because, afterwards, after the cuts and the changed dialogues, the scenes don't make any sense anymore.

"Guardian" is mainly a disaster, because the censors forced the production company to (1) remove it from broadcast to recut it, to (2) remove scenes that were considered too "gay" and (3) to redub whole dialogue sequences with voice actors, which is why in the re-release Bai Yu and Zhu Yi Long sound different at times...

Having watched the original broadcast before it got taken down, all I can say is, it was worth the watch.

I've no idea. I never watch on Viki. But it's on You Tube and on dramacool / watchasian.

Shout-out to Jing Gang Shan as Chu Tianyu: More facial expressions in two minutes than other cast members had in 33 episodes! Impressive performance! Hats off, Sir, you rock!

The supporting cast (Wei Bing Hua, Geng Le, Sun Jian, Ruan Sheng Wen, Wang Li, Jing Gang Shan, Wang Chun Yuan, Hu Bing...etc. ) is my only reason why I didn't drop this long ago.

Like it or not, name it sexist or not, but one thing got proven through thousands of years in history:

A woman after having given birth looks less girly and more feminine and womanly than before, she looses the childlike features and becomes more shaped in appearance and beauty, she looks more grown-up and less like a baby-doll - and this shows with Zhao Li Ying, too.

She's beautiful and might even get better in acting, but she's not convincing any more in playing a teen girl...

Yep! To attack is always easier than to reason, because to reason would mean to dispute on something with someone about each others opinions and possibly come to an understanding.
To me it's not necessary to always agree about anything as long as people treat each other with respect and as long as they agrgue and discuss on the same eye-level.
This respect is missing in most of the social meadia platforms all around the world.

Indeed! All this isn't about talent, performance or skills any more. It's just about promoting and exploiting some artificially created stars for money-making.
If I see how many of the so called idols have never visited a drama school and never performed in a theatrical play life on stage before, I'm not surprised that acting gets more and more undewhelming.
They had a couple of generations of extremely great character-actors for a while, but most of them are 35+ and older, meanwhile. What grows back are exchangable faces performing in always the same kind of dramas without greater challenges. If that is what China's censors want the world of acting and movie-making to look like...oh my...

I'm following numerous Chinese actors as good as it's possible from Germany and what jumped on me immedieately was:
No other actors/actresses have so many toxic fans like all those idols artificially pushed to stardom.
Those "fans" are not fans, they are poisoning the whole industry. Unfortunately they find support in the social media making it much easier to spread their hatred sheltered by being able to stay anonym.
They don't give a bloody f..k about the actors they claim to support.

Well, why did she work with him again, then, after she already ranted about him having tricked her into filming "Princess Agents" by telling her they'd do the whole novel and not just one half?
She knew with whom she'd work. She had all chances to say "no" to the director and the script.

I've been active in many fandoms over the bygone fourty years, amongst them Star Trek, Babylon 5, Highlander, Star Wars, X-Files, but none of them had so many toxic, biased, intolerant, aggressive and narrow-minded people claiming to be fans like in c-drama fandoms.

Who's not of their opinion is autoimatically a hater and who dares to not agree about their pampered idols is automatically an arc-enemy.
I really wonder how people who carry so much hatred inside themselves and who are so aggressive against everyone not sharing their ideas can lead a happy life.

But, you can bet on it, it's not about the age-gap or sexism, in the first place. It's because someone dares to say, there is zero chemistry between Zhao Li Ying and Wang Yibo, zero, and that seeing them kiss looks weird, because it does.

Neither of them looks in any way comfortable in that scene.
And a good director should have seen this, also, that a woman in her thirties shouldn play a teen girl - especially if there are actresses of the fitting age out there (Eleanor Lee for example).

But, yes, if it's Zhao Li Ying or Yang Mi, they are allowed to do everything, while Zhang Zi Yi or Zhou Xun looked "so old and worn out" when they played the younger part of their charcaters themselves.

I stick with it: they should have chosen leads of the same age, either in their thirties or in their twenties.
The way it is, I don't buy that Zhao Li Ying's character is supposed to be several years younger than Wang Yibo's character...
It simply doesn't work.

Ask my boyfriend about it. He's five years younger than me...
