I find it ironically funny how many look over the several rants in the comments and reviews about their issues with a drama, while asking what’s with the low ratings lol. Saw the screenwriter, easy pass for me.

✍🏽 And there we have it, been a long time coming. Great run down on the theme and emotions evoked, straight to the points. Been having a weird review of my own in mind, guess it’s time for a third rewatch to refresh some memory🙂.

They were definitely out of line with the lame remark being uncalled for. At the same time if you wish to be decisive on your own, do that. Fish out what you want through rather the drama itself,tags, or others’ comments/ reviews on it. Asking stuff like that will welcome any kind of response, helpful or not.

I don’t “appreciate” your open take on the rating system because a drama isn’t as high as you’d like it to be while contradicting yourself in the span of 2 clicks away lol. It’s a public platform champ, find something private if you’re bugged about something you made that others can see instantly. Not that deep.

Hard disagree. No matter how high or low we may feel a drama should be rated that shouldn’t validate some idea of restricting users from rating on episodes that are currently out. Some may want to drop it and keep it as is. Some wants to see the overall reception of an ongoing drama to decide on trying. Some prefer to rate as they follow. It’s not that serious.

I see you’re quite quick to throw ratings on ongoing series as well, is it fine because you’re tossing it a 10 compared to someone with a different opinion so far?

Eh, go under just about any chinese republican era drama comments and it’ll be the same, just how they are towards them. There’s been discussion on the last third of the drama shortcomings as well but idk, every snippet I’ve seen looked up to par. Guess I’ll see myself.

Welcome to republican era dramas. Most of them aren’t inflated like the typical popular dramas. It’s a great score in comparison to the others in its genre.

As someone who loves this series and itching to rewatch despite my procrastination with several other dramas.. For you? It’s not worth watching. Good news , this drama ticks alot of your boxes ! Bad news, they’re apart of your dislikes.

If you’re used to short/er dramas and heavily prefer them, this won’t be an exception. Story of Minglan is for those that have acquired the taste for these types of stories already, pacing and genre wise.

I cannot sit here and lie to you and say this series ticks barely any of the aspects in a drama you do like , so I’ll stand...🧍🏽Rich FL and absolutely pathetic ML? Got it ! BL? I’m sure we can conjure up some context clues. Non problematic families? We-.. uh...

Give it a try if you’re still interested, any big effort and high quality drama deserves that at least imo. Don’t let anyone tell you to stick it out for __ amount of episodes. While there are great moments, the consistency of the writing is the same. The second you want out, feel free.

Wow, 2 years since i dropped this… after hearing a couple things I’ve long awaited for actually happening, think it’s time for a second chance.

Been quite busy to keep up with the drama airing, a good sign to see this is still receiving praises from you halfway through. Did you also get the feel of it not being able to hold consistent quality in pacing with the episode count early on? What i was mainly concerned about, felt like a 6-8 episode drama at best.

I adore seeing this under dramas I’m interested in. I’m heavy on first impressions, at least be worth trying out.

Well then, first episode done. One huge flaw so far, the drama’s ongoing. Nah but I know the episode count isn’t worrying just me, right? The pacing is as slow as it is fast, meaning the sequential order i’m used to in 6-8 episode limited series at its best. Just the first ep though, surely I’m just reaching for a con.

The pros are everything else. Dare i say an almost perfect first episode for what this is if it wasn’t for the shorter drama vibes i got from it. Excited to finish the other 3 and start my weekly longing for the rest . This deserved a first impression.

Seems to be the typical community discussion on the original work to adaption. Jdrama fans are used to the rougher routes they take in comparison to most kdramas and cdramas, so I’m sure they’ll have the more levelheaded takes here. Since others have their opinion on what will make this remake a success I’ll throw in my little change.

I couldn’t care less if the road leads to a dead end, tragedy, or safe arrival. Give me a journey that’s smooth enough to accept wherever it decides to end. My emotions by the end are irrelevant on the quality, if I’m satisfied with the execution, that’s a success.

Anyway, 4 eps is steep enough for me to try out, let me grab some food.

Hm, a remake of that classic jdrama way back and I’m just now noticing? Due to how safe kdramas likes to redirect these*coughMOTHERcough*, this may have more potential than the rough landing with the original. Director’s a good sign at least.

🎯 with what would be my tick here. But to be fair Minglan used the same style every now and then with Gu Ting Ye’s bat signal(ifykyk..) . I am quite simple with pros and cons despite how nitpicky they can be, and admittedly I don’t see a positive result after however much of yanxi palace i get through. Just hoping i can get what others have been obsessing over this long and comparing to a favorite of mine every other comment. This feels familiar, you were the one i said should start making reviews right? Sigh, guess I’ll just have to stalk your whereabouts in comments more👤.

Hm,🤔 quite different for me. What you contrasted there between the two just left a bitter taste in my mouth lol. Minglan keeps strong praises and rewatches from me to this day because it executes everything(for the most part) it’s going for profoundly. A great story alone with inferior acting and dialogue to match sounds like multiple obstacles in the way of immersion, so I wouldn’t be able to enjoy that aspect enough. Definitely gonna give this a go still, from the constant comparisons and time frame between this and ming lan. Feels like they’re a must try after watching one.

Yeah there’s just nothing here worth clicking next episode for besides when the leads are together. There’s barely any praise outside of the romance either so the scores confuse me, as there’s the whole office/slice of life aspect that’s handled in such a bland manner so far.

“She never thought of GTY in a romantic way” Bingo. Well, agree and disagree . I believe what, the 31 episode mark? Wherever that bold confession scene is at, that’s where i believe one of her only moments of thinking of GTY in a romantic way resides, as all of those thoughts and emotions came rushing through her suddenly as she comes to her decision. From then on always seen him as the man she can put her trust in, think and move as one, and express gratitude towards, rather it be intimately or protective competence. Her way of love was different from how shielded off she became growing up, and granted i say it’s fair to mention that she also seen the only two men of interest differently and expressed herself as such. One being extremely passive yet emotionally determined, while the other being patient yet extremely direct and decisive. It’s also why i loved both the interests here, thus enjoyed the drama just as much from beginning to end. Sigh, I’m about to rewatch this now i guess 🤦🏽‍♂️. Good selection there with Rise of Phoenixes, another great story that unfortunately(for me) progressively became a mess in the last quarter. I will be reading it though soon, as it’s more fleshed out in the original format. My bad for the ramble lol.

Exactly, very well said. If i were to begin skipping any of this drama it’d be a bigger crime than just dropping the drama itself. The slow building of character development and dynamics here are in a league of its own. Getting to the end and later rewatching every scene is like a story of its own under a new light.
