I have this love-hate for Na Young Joo, because no matter how much I like her for her being all feminist and badass,…
I agree. I love that she's tough and stands up for what she believes in, plus her deadpan manner is pretty amusing. But she seems reckless and unwilling to listen to advice from her seniors, which is a problem, especially when your job is security.
She seems like someone who likes to play by the book (or maybe she's just more forceful? Considering she judo threw that lady lol) but she needs to realize the rules can change based on the situation. Like with the old man, she was rushing to just call the police and run his id because that's protocol when it was evident playing it by ear was better.
Dae Ki was completely right in his speech to her in yesterday's episode, but she was too stubborn to listen. She seems to have trust issues (maybe we'll get some insight as to why next week) and also probably is worried people might not take her seriously, which is a valid concern as a women in that field. She's in for some character development, but it looks like that's what the writer is leading up to. We'll probably see some improvement next week, just like how YR is much more composed now than the first few episodes. I'm looking forward to it!
Dunno why the audio is so bad on viki, but luckily I had already watched it before somewhere else where it was fine. I decided to rewatch it because before I had skipped around a lot and missed things, I'm glad I did. Though the last few episodes left something to be desired, overall it's one of my favorite Chinese historical dramas to date. I'd give it a 7.5/10. Wonderful main cast and a good plot, but still falls victim to some common cliches, while also putting a nice spin on others.
No unnecessary deaths(y'know what I'm talking about, even a lot of "comedy" hist. Chinese dramas are prone to it), not a whole lot of draggy subplots, and the second "lead" (Hu Li/Hu Qing) doesn't go to the dark side! I'm glad that despite loving the general he never acted spiteful towards her or Yu jin (even though Yu Jin definitely needed a slap a few times lol) and even went out of his way to help them. Something I never liked about a lot of historical Chinese dramas is that often after realizing he's not going to get the girl the second lead will go all crazy, glad that didn't happen here and I hope he got his own happy ending! He deserved one.
I'd love to see this remade in the future with a bigger production budget so we can truly get the scope of all the battle scenes.
God, why do I do this to myself? Everytime. I just finished it and I bawled like a baby, it was so bittersweet. I highly recommend it though. The last scene was the icing on a tear cake, that I ate knowing I'd be depressed after. Too salty lol.
I hated Seo In Woo's (SIW) behavior b/c made no sense why he was dead set on ruining Lee Soo Yeon's (LSY) career.…
It's possible! I'm pretty sure i've seen that happen in other shows before, not all that uncommon. But in this case I think it's kinda unlikely, based on IW behavior with others, not just with SY. In general he seems like a man who puts himself first, at least at the moment.
But who knows, you might be right, we'll just have to watch and see. :)
Oh man, I feel exactly the same. Gahh, this character is such a selfish piece of work. He doesn't even deserve…
I totally agree. It's understandable that you might not want a constant reminder of your wrongdoings walking around, but if that's the case IW should be the one to leave as his own deeds rest on his shoulders. The fact that he's actively trying to get SY fired or moved elsewhere to me proves he's never repented for his actions, aside from feeling sorry for himself. But like you said at least he's not a one-dimensional villain.
I hate that his "brother" is a little shit. I would have preferred some animosity but ultimately him coming out a better(ish) person in the end, but this weeks episodes proved there ain't no way that's happening lol. I guess every show needs a villain.
Aside from Seo in woo's general shenanigans, that was an especially low move to try and stir things up by leaving SY's personal file open on his desk so YR would see. Good thing it looks like he didn't get his intended effect(at least, not this week).
It's clear his plan is to try to destroy everything that might give SY a desire to stay. Honestly I just want someone to sock him in the mouth everytime he's on screen. Kudos to the actor. I hope TL Yang stays far away from him.
The preview for next week is very promising! Can't wait for the next episode. Looks like the gossip machine will be working full force.
Ikr? I was certain they had the wrong headshot, but nah, that's him. It's amazing how the face can change with…
I think you're right! Based on the Korean wiki entry (https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%ED%83%9C%EC%9B%90%EC%84%9D which unfortunately has no picture) their movie/drama credits are the same, only on here one gets some credits and the other doesn't lol. I guess someone got confused by the two headshots and made him two different people. That's a funny little mix up lol.
Ikr? I was certain they had the wrong headshot, but nah, that's him. It's amazing how the face can change with more weight/muscle. I'm curious if he bulked up for roles or he's just into weightlifting.
So far I really like it. All the main characters seem to have layers. Kim Moo young is intriguing, but I don't like him, like Jin Kang said it seems like he treats everything like a game and does stuff to get a reaction out of people. But judging by the subtle changes in his expressions, it's likely that's all part of some master plan, but in the meanwhile I find him unlikable (which may be the point) particularly in the scenes with Jin Kang's friend.
I currently have no desire to see them together, Jin Kang deserves better lol
I read a few major spoilers for the original (and skipped around watching it) and I'm curious to see if they'll stay true to the original or not. Personally, I'd prefer it if they changed some parts to make it "its own" but we'll see.
Sadly there aren't any subs yet, I watched it raw.
I believe this drama was licensed by Netflix, who unfortunately wait till dramas fully air before subbing so it might be awhile before any subs pop up. Though hopefully some fan group will pick it up in the meantime.
What an episode. I love that this show makes me wanna pause it while watching because at times it's kinda too depressing to see. I'm starting to realize I really like to feel that way while watching stuff lol. Misaeng (from the same director) gives you that same good gut-wrenching feel. Sort of gloomy and seemingly without hope but hoping for something.
Saw the preview and lowkey I want the next episode to be the one where she collapses and is they have a heart to heart so she can't do any damage to Dong Hoon with that photo lol I don't think that'll happen till maybe next week or even later tho Edit: after watching ep 4 I really like where this is going and I'm glad they only briefly utilized the photo in the plot so it didn't ruin his work life.

That seemed like a really good first episode, hopefully the rest of the series reflects that same quality.
