What tickles me is imagining the scene each morning when the two boys get dressed for the day. Wu Bi (it would…
@FreshKicks I can't help but think that the production team were very mindful about complying to the strict censorship laws that appear to heavily discrimate against the LGBTQ community in China. This may be why they have had to be more creative in the ways that they portray a gay relationship. The original Addicted was more raw and didn't shy away from portraying sex between a same sex couple and got banned. I'm also surprised and disappointed that the unaired episodes never got leaked or released. At least, we get an ending with Stay with Me. Also, you definitely have an eye for detail because I never picked up that Su Yu's dad wearing a pricey shirt!
I completely agree about your comments on Su Yu's mom. After 16 episodes of the show painting in her a certain…
I just watched ep 17 and the reconciliation scene on Wu Bi birthday where he is celebrating it with his father; step mother and Wu Bi seems improbable. We see Wu Bi saying sorry to his stepmother that he has hated for years and then walk out of the room with no further interaction. There is no heart to heart between Wu Bi and his father that you would expect especially because of the circumstances of his mother's death. Instead, we see Wu bi celebrating his birthday with the two peoole he spent years blaming for his mother's death. I might be being too picky but we had 16 episodes setting the family conflict . Regardless, ep 17 was amazing and I did reach for tissues when Wu Bi handed over the sculpture to Su Yu on his birthday. My earlier comments don't take away from the fact that overalll this an amazing series and one i'll rewatch in the future.
The dance scene in front of kindergarten kids was a bit cringe worthy! But the intimacy between Wu Bi and Su Yu during the call was everything. They talked with familiarity that only couples deeply love have. It was also the first real scene in which Wu Bi seemed relaxed with his friends. They picked on how much he had changed and he even took their teasing really well! I'm sure there is going to be a lot of angst when Wu Bi finds out what Su Yu has done behind his back. I'm also struggling to buy the writer's attempt to rehabilitate Su Yu's mother and recasting her as the victim all along. From the beginning she has been portrayed as an opportunistic who enjoys her current husband's wealth and status and looks down on her ex husband. Also, why did she wait 6 years before trying to reconnect with her only son? Only 16 more hours before the next 2 episodes! I would score this series 20 if I could!
I loved everything about this series even though it was dark at times. I commented before that there was always a melancholic feel even in scenes when Ren & Kazuma were sharing a tender moment. Therefore, it felt more profound when figuratively speaking the lights came on and Ren & Kazuma were able to move on from their past. Japanese bls are cut above in that I'm so engaged that I forget that I'm watching 24 minute episodes and instead feel like I've been on a longer journey.

misspulane I'm with you on wanting to get to the end. I hope when the ending comes there is lighter note. I love this series but it's not one I can bear to rewatch for a long time.
I binge watched up until ep 4 and I'm so glad I found this exceptional series. It's the maturity of the storyline that deals with some real life dilemmas that makes it such an emotional ride! I laughed out loud at times and then I remembered Kurosawa's predicament and I felt sad. I'm sure there some married men out there who reach a point in thier life when they want to embrace their true sexuality. I also feel sorry for Maki because Haruto seems to be a clueless about everything. However, the actor who plays Kurosawa deserves so much credit. He played a character who at first appears a ridulous but then we come to learn he is experiencing a mid-life criss. I'm looking forward to watching the remaining episodes.
I'm probably in a minority but I really love this series even though there is a melancholic atmosphere even when Kazuma & Ren are sharing tender moments. I've haven't read the manga and so I had no preconceptions. Overall, in each episode the running thread is that both Kazuma and Ren want their first love to be their last. To me, it also representative of the trauma that some parents inflict on their child once they find out that they are not straight. Kazuma and Ren's story feels really dark at times and painful to watch. I didn't like Ren in the first 2 episodes but as his backstory unfolds and we learn just how much he has endured in the years they were separated. This series is not perfect but it manages to get me fully invested in Ren & Kazuma's story. There is something about some Japanese bls that just hits differently and they continue to linger on in my memory long after they have aired. I'm still traumatised after watching Eternal Yesterday from the same company months after the series aired!
I don't know why so many people start watching these shows thinking they're going to be cinematic masterpiecse…
Everyone has different expectations from bls and that's ok. However, there are different levels of bls. Some are meant to be fluffy & silly like this one. Others like Eternal Yesterday;Addicted & it's current remake Stay with Me just hit differently. For example, Eternal Yesterday judging by comments on MDL brought out deep emotions in people including me. My point is that bls is now diverse and of differing production values. I watch this one because I know it's a MAME production and therefore it's going to be a cheesy watch full of clichés! I also think people should be able to freely critic whatever they're watching! I loved Eternal Yesterday but there was a minority who didn't like the fact there wasn't HEA in the traditional way. My view is each to their own!
I'm a mess after watching the last few minutes of ep 16! That song was so heart-wrenching that it had me reaching for the tissues. This is my first Chinese bl (or not a bl according to some) and it's by far one the most memorable series I've watched to date. I like the slow burn of how the story unfolds and the lack of clichés. The actors who play Wu Bu and Su Yu are perfectly casted. They deserve so much credit for bringing to life two very complex characters. I'm praying that Wu Bu & Su Yu end up living out their dreams. I haven't read the book or spoilers and so I'm telling myself that there will be HEA! However, my gut tells me that this series maybe another Romeo & Juilet situation. Now the long wait for the next episode begins!
Ep 4 was a cringe fest and don't even get me started on the Pun cooking scene which grossed me out! At this stage, I'm more interested in Mingmueang's back story and I'd see more of him finding someone. Maybe, it's just me but I often find the 2nd couple's story more interesting.
