I think it is odd to cast certain actors and don't trust that they would work well together or have chemistry.
And didn't they give ML more screentime than he would have according to the novel?
Someone said they didn't expect the drama to do well as it aired opposite foxspirit matchmaker, which unfortunately wasn't the hit that was exspected.

I am just glad for everyone involved that it is that successful and for us that we got this great drama with complex characters.

I wouldn't mind seeing the leads in a xianxia drama some day. The qin fantasy scene was like a preview for that :)

I liked their acted quarrel. I knew when I heard them that it wasn't real.
But to see it was really funny. XH's thumbs up and the emperors threat to deduct everything he breaks from his salary and his silly nod after that.

I liked it. They were a slow burn from the beginning and we felt like intruders watching them. So it was their right that the first kiss was not seen by the audience. It was their moment alone after the confession.

Also, I'm glad they already showed their kissing scenes in previews/trailers. So I'm satisfied to wait for the later episodes.

Yes, I think he heard their conversation and came to her rescue. He may have had thoughts about her identity before like all the others, but I guess he liked her for all the good she did.

SYR has really been brought down by Wanning. He could have told XFF that the princess was interested in him and like talk about what they should do.
But no, he started that affair with her and later felt he had no choice but to kill her or his mother and sister would be killed.

And in prison he was like just kill me I don't care, but then he could just have killed the princess right there, making sure she couldn't harm JL again, but no, he will just wait for the princess to get him out of there.

He kept flying in and out. He rivaled WJ with his jumping in and out.

I'd think it's more the realization how helpless he is as an individual and that he can use the princess to get to those corrupt officials. He went on the path of doing bad things for the greater good. In his mind at least. But he feels guilty for sure and I think he will never be happy and you never see him smile heartily, except in flashbacks with XFF.

Interesting. So did the princess have her brother all along? Why? In case she needs him as a threat?
And SYR assaulted JL and is in prison?

You can see his face change from the cold good looking Duke to the smiling simp for her. But still good looking :)

When they showed his past with his father, it was to show some of his motivation or to have sympathy for him, but I didn't see that at all. He became one of the corrupt officials himself and tries to defend what he is doing. And his mother and sister were mean to XFF even before he got his career.

And later when WJ said "I brought my lackeys", LJ's eyeroll was so funny.

It's a good advice in general, mostly because for many it is difficult to do so. Even for him, who has so much power, it's not possible, because of his responsibilities and all the enemies in the palace.
