absolutely agree!! she did give us more right after u stopped! some glances she'd never given before of angst, melancholy, decisive moments, but they are too few in my opinion! it wasn't an easy character to play, i didn't see enough nuance either but there is 'character development' after an important moment in the story.

we can see in generation to generation it was *almost * same beginning with a ml in need of saving. after watching so many cdramas, pursuit of jade really stands out among most in the captivating execution and the script.
the story unfolds at the perfect pace, information that is left out doesn't feel like manipulation from the scriptwriters, and explanations are not just dumped in bulk either...

this really helps connect with story... and lastly, the main leads, maybe because of direction, but Cz felt off many times...
despite the close ups, the looking at the camera slowed angles.... her character could have given us more nuance early on...
i really enjoyed the scenes in generation to generation when they took their time esp ep 21 i think when they were travelling together for example.

same! he is definitely talented but i always thought the script or plot wasn't on his side before... same for TXW! she is amazng i loved her in moonlit reunion but i thought the show wasnt executed as nicely to hold her role...

this show raised the bar for historical cdrama.. i knew it would go viral ! what's been often a miss in cdramas is the way the story unfolds... the first 5 minutes were amazing on their own for a setting , everything from scenes to script is such a masterpiece . well deserved!

i felt it was very boxed the way she played CZ, but i realize now that it was part of her character, a-very strong- emotional wall she had built... but when she broke the engagement we could see she really started showing more and FL is shining now ! the gaze, movement, everything... she gave us so much in the last 5 few eps than the whole first 15 eps... lol

What amazes me is how she still makes the same 'flat' glances now with some characters but we know as the audience that its a facade! ( i refer to when she makes as if she doing well especially in today's episode 26) and it shows how brillant she is!

100% agree! i didn't know the novel, but the story aside from the editing really sounded nice. i was also very worried about CZ's character it felt really flat but now i see she was keeping a lot in.l// or what we call character growth?

i'm glad i kept watching. ep 21 ( travelling together) and 26 are the best so far.

it was such a tragic scene but it was so great. this episode and ep 21 is where we finally see CZ shine. i'm also pretty sure what we saw is not everything. they are great accomplices of each other since day 1 and CZ knew someone was listening in. What CZ said was really out of character in the end because even if she wouldn't give up on her friends, she wouldn't stay silent on injustice.... Yuzhi's dad said it to his son...

100% agree for Zhao's character! i understand the walls she is trying to keep and all the pressure she is resisting... she is really a 'righteous' path as it looks so easy for her to resist all of mq's advances! we barely see any emotion from her and I find it a little wierd.
but the hands moment was so beautiful & meaningful...
so... so far, according to Zhao's character i think she will only start showing her emotions once the engagement is really off.

okay yes definitely romance, i thought it had a nice comedy balance but probably just me... ( so many people that 'know each other' like the grandma and the coffeeshop owner... many couple matching, almost fake couple proposal... lots of romcom tropes but i understand its not the main genre for this show )

anyways, season 2 in c-drama are often botchy, with fewer episodes and the story stretches too much. I don't know the original webnovel here, i still wish it was more than 32!

exactly! seeing the flashbacks we understand how far the prince would go in his schemes! but it makes me wonder, if in the original story, the prince is the good guy, does he become 'good' after meeting wanyin?
even xie- who did not skim through the story- thought the prince was the hero... i love this nuance because it shows that 1-maybe no one understood the original story 2- or that not everything is as it seems and the writer can really mess up a character -aka the prince.

but, as a story where main leads are stuck in a new identity, its an added challenge. the ruse of 'playing the game' +we see both sides is a real challenge for the actors. I think they pull it off nicely so far! for dan specifically, he is the more mysterious character and only as the show advances do we understand the duality in him is way more complex than shown compared to wanyin!

i had the same feeling for the comedy/tragedy mix, it is a tight balance... in this case it's justified in the beginning as the main leads don't even believe it's real... so the drama isn't taken seriously. They confront this and eventually it gets less comical.

As a fan of tragedies(not sure if this is one yet) , i love seeing lighthearted moments because they are priceless. tragedies often have symbolism of irony, sarcasm, humour compared to melodrama
