I think she will also challenge what it means to be irreplaceable ...

we have yet to understand the intent behind the game but i have a doubt it will be indeed similar!

exactly!!! this is the only critique i also have for this first episode! he could have talked on the phone while looking at his daughter, and the cop's wife could have called anyone during her very anxious walk.... also its hardly believable that they were able to link all 7 pan-asian kidnappings so fast!!!

hahaha yeah you're right! i actually loved these scenes! another really lovely scene even if lanxiang is always a bit too composed, is when he comes back at the end and is playing with the kids, he stands up and opens his arms as an invitation. you realize lanxiang is very delicate in love!

i was sure she fell for him and she would confess after she asked him to kowtow 3x to her real parents at the graveyard... but I see your point! i think the episode where they consummate the wedding was so rushed, there was literally no dialogue 😅 it would have been a good moment.

it shocks me that the drama decided to not include any confession from her... even if toned down.... a grand confession*** is so coherent with her character, lanxiang was very theatrical and loved to say things in imagery!!! update: i read the chapter and i'm even more shocked of the differences in the novel 😂😂 the ML was just too arrogant in that confessions what!!!

thank u!! i can understand the frustrated comments because the ML behaviour is spread in many romance dramas... the love obsessed man is a real fantasy.

marriage as a project bound within filial piety was lanxiang's understanding. what her soul loved is to be free, like wildgrass, a writer for plays... so even love was not her priority.

oh no 😭 the ML was the element i hoped was better handled in the novel lol

beautiful review i just read it again today! still thinking about this show.
the production kinda didn't want to leave any loose ends... even for the shen family!!! but we as viewers would have understood to let go through lianxiang's resolve to live.
the biggest unresolved loose end in my eyes would still be how she felt about the ML, explicitly not just implicitly. but as you said, the show is completely uninterested with the men.
I was waiting for another confrontation between them on that until the end but their last scene together was not it for me....
beautiful show regardless and i love when a show keeps us thinking after we finish it!

i also hoped something else was with the pouch!! i though we'd see the little prayer with the word 'live' that she had since young...
but yeah i think the mL was the tragedy part of this show

for sure it's disappointing because i wish they could get over the fact that he forced her to marry. although she tells him debt is paid in the end, the show really wanted to show that no matter what a man does, if he doesn't let the woman choose for herself, the love is incomplete. Maybe some see understated love and tenderness between their soft interactions, you see humiliation of the ML. I also see humiliation but for me it was unavoidable.

i think their love was a tragedy because like you said the moment he took all her freedom again, it was never gonna be fully okay. the tragedy lies in the ML: even the 'good man' is still clueless to the struggles of women and relies on patriarchy to remove women's agency time and time again. without lianxiang he would still be aloof. they did surpass a lot together but he never tried to correct it and give her the freedom choice: all he did was try to convince her to love him and worse, at the end, he wraps the red thread and begs for more marriages in other lifetimes. it didn't pass as romantic for me because lianxiang's reaction says otherwise.

i did not like that he still wants to tie her with another marriage. i understand that he was dying, but he didn't ask either the first time. it would have been totally cute and fine had the FL reacted more than just 'let him'... zero initiation on her part.

i think her strongest emotional deep affection moment in the second half of the show was when she lost her mother... SHE leaned in her mother's arms and cried.... all the other moments/hugs was to support other characters...
the mother daughter bond was really profound. even when she gave birth...
but with the ML he really looked like a doormat for her most of the time
