I respect your opinion and understand where it's coming from, in the original which I'm a huge fan of It was very obvious from the beginning that he wouldn't end up with the boss Haruta never showed any romantic interest in him and respected him as a boss and on top of that the boss was married straight out of the picture from early on even if he got divorced it was a no. On the other hand his feelings and relationship with Maki were more compatible he showed a lot of concerns and care towards Maki not on the same level for the boss he probably fell in love with Maki from the beginning but Haruta being himself he didn't understand how to process his own feelings fast enough.
